This may just be because a lot of jetpack users are terrible.

There's the relatively small group of smarter people who just use it in bursts for added mobility or to get onto higher areas, and then there's the ones that are much more common, especially on powerhouse: Idiots who will fly as high and far as they can, throw some grenades, and then try to divebomb people while spraying the AR. They just immediately blow their entire repertoire on the first person they see, and they really don't have any sort of plan for using the jetpack. They just fly until it runs out.

Yeah, the series has really been missing that since H2.

All the comprehensive information they've added to the postgame report, and they still forget that one.

We ran into a bunch of jetpack tards last night on Sword Base. Fry was shooting fish in a barrel.

sword base is probably the best map for jetpacks. I still use sprint or armor lock 99% of the time.

any tips for using armor lock? I haven't found much use out of it yet. The hologram one has got to be the coolest and most fun for me. It's really satisfying watching some n00b go apeshit over my clone while I unload on him [no homo].

Also, is everyone finding the solo legendary campaign to be ridiculously challenging? I mean, I'm making progress but it takes fucking forever on some parts of the levels. Co-op was a breeze.

^From what I've seen, armor lock is pretty much a free kill for your opponent, unless you're just using it to avoid getting stuck/naded or if you're playing a map with vehicles (it can break vehicles that try to splatter you).

Armor lock can be strong if you play in pairs. You run ahead and draw out people and soften them up, go into armor lock and your teammate follows up for the kill. Or it could be good to save yourself from being killed with like 5 seconds to go in a game, like if you have a tie and you could potentially be the game winning kill for the other team if the score limit has not been reached. I prefer Sprint overall. Being able to run down someone, or run for cover if pretty useful for me.

hologram still seems superior when used well. Even if you are already in combat, a quick hide behind cover and release your hologram will almost always allow you a brief advantage to get a few shots in on the other guy first.

armor lock was better in the beta, because your shields would start recharging at some people while locked. but yeah, it works wayy better in pairs.

i could only play this game for 3 hours before going back to mw2.

people just don't die in this game when you shoot at them. it takes so goddamn long to kill someone. same reason why bfbc2 sucked.

I just got flat out tired of MW2 and BFBC2 (just as I did of H3, COD4/5)- same campers, same hiding spots, same routes, etc.... HR is refreshing and good to me, and Black Ops will be just as refreshing and good I suspect. I am sure I will get tired of HR and BO, but until that day I am going to play them just as I did MW2 and BFBC2.

Yeah, I tired of MW2 very quickly due to the fast-killing nature of every single weapon...
Fast deaths + long killstreak rewards + maps with plenty of hiding spots = Boring campy gameplay.
It would be an awesome game if people weren't such pussies, but they are, and the gameplay naturally lends itself to pussy-ism.

Hell, it's not even the raw speed that bugs me. Halo 1's pistol had the potential to kill incredibly fast, you just had to be skilled to do so consistently. Pretty much anyone playing MW2 can sit in a corner and shoot for the split-second necessary to kill someone. It's a great game for people who like waiting and like feeling proud of themselves for doing nothing particularly skillful or interesting.

But this is the Reach thread, not the MW2 thread, so we really ought to be talking about all the cool shit that Reach can do.

Today, I learned that I can use forge to make a vehicle into a mobile territory objective point. And that forge can spawn giant golf balls, golf clubs (an alternate brute hammer skin), and golf holes.

You don't need to lead at all, unless you're using rockets, genade launcher, the needler, or plasma weapons.

DMR, Pistol, and needle Rifle are all hit-scan.

It seems like I've gotten 1 hit KO'ed a bunch recently by people sprinting+meleeing me. I can't make it work for myself, though.

FUCK YOU LECHE...FUCK YOU lol

i suck at reach because it takes infinity +1 bullets to kill someone.
i have a 3 bullet rule to kill a dude.
if one of you niggers would explain
1) how many bullets to lower shields (and what it looks like when a guy's shield is lowered)
2) how long before shields regenerate
3) how many bullets / melees to kill with and without shields up
4) how to use the crosshairs - accuracy when crouch vs. standing, how long to wait when trying to snipe kids from across the map (after firing one round the crosshairs get bigger for a second or two)
5) weapon damages for needlers, plasma rifles, default long range gun starting off (15 round gun), and 32 round rifle starting off
6) how far you should be when shooting each gun (which are accurate at long range vs. short range) and when you're melee'ing

and some basics like that, maybe i wouldn't suck lol

it's hard to explain the answers to all those questions. most of them are experience based and can't just be answered.

edit: basically, stop playing mw2 and stick with reach!

what a bait and switch this game is. i knew i should have played it before buying it. been playing for about 2 hours and haven't enjoyed a single game so far. even in games where i've done pretty well (say +8 or 9) i'm so pissed off from all the crap that i don't have any fun. even ignoring call of duty, this game doesn't hold a candle to the old halo's either.

^^ like i said, you're a bunch of niggers!
pssh..."experience"...

i could find all the damage values for every gun in MW2 online, how long it takes to regen health, etc.

not only is the learning curve high for a new player, but without kill cams to watch, you don't even know what you're doing incorrectly. so it really is trial and error and all the kids who've been playing this series forever have a huge advantage.

/whining

i know it's whining, and all the hardcore halo players couldn't care less, and neither do i really...i don't get mad at video games. i know it takes time to be good...i'll practice patiently until i get fed up, then go back to mw2 for a bit, then come back, etc.

If you stop comparing and whining, and start playing this game base on its individual concept you probably could extract some fun for yourself. There is plenty of fun here to be had, but you need a winning attitude!

Your whining hardly deserves an answer but I'll go ahead and give you one anyway. Hell if I know why.

Quote :
"1) how many bullets to lower shields (and what it looks like when a guy's shield is lowered)"

4 DMR rounds to lower shields. It's obvious when it happens, and when you shoot people, their shields are brighter based on how much damage they've already taken. When their shield is already down, there will be very slight electrical sparks around their midsection and they won't glow when you shoot them.

Quote :
"2) how long before shields regenerate"

Not sure exactly, but it feels a bit long relative to other Halo games. Note that if your health is hurt, grabbing a medkit will make your shields start to recharge immediately.

Quote :
"3) how many bullets / melees to kill with and without shields up"

DMR: 4 bullets to take down shields, 1 more headshot to kill.
Needle Rifle: 5 bullets to kill shield (I THINK), 1 more headshot to kill or 3 more body shots to cause them to explode.
Pistol: 4 or 5 to remove shields, 1 more headshot to kill.
Melee: 1 to remove shields, 1 more to kill.

If you really want to know these things exactly, just go into a custom game and shoot at a dummy player.

Quote :
"4) how to use the crosshairs - accuracy when crouch vs. standing, how long to wait when trying to snipe kids from across the map (after firing one round the crosshairs get bigger for a second or two)"

The bloom resets very quickly on most weapons. So long as you aren't spamming the sniper at its max fire rate, you should have perfect accuracy. It's not like you can't see where your bloom is anyway, just fire when it's reset and get used to the timing. Again, practice timing against a dummy in a custom game if you have to.

Crouching has no effect on bloom since it resets so quickly anyway, but you can sometimes use crouches in the middle of fights to dodge other people's shots (like in Halo 1).

Quote :
"5) weapon damages for needlers, plasma rifles, default long range gun starting off (15 round gun), and 32 round rifle starting off"

Anyone else remember the days when people could play games without going on the internet to find databases and spreadsheets and instead just learned by experience? What happened to those?

Quote :
"6) how far you should be when shooting each gun (which are accurate at long range vs. short range) and when you're melee'ing"

Christ, seriously, you can't figure that out on your own? Pretty much every non-automatic gun can be effective at any range, so there's no blanket "you should be x distance" answer. That's why there's no definitive answer as to exactly how fast to shoot, either. It's all about shooting at the correct speed to the distance you're at.

As for the melees, they're roughly five feet if you get a slight lunge, if you don't they're about three (lunge consistency is generally based on your connection to the host... it usually happens, but often it won't if your connection is worse).

Yes it is. Just because you were good at Halo 2 five years ago doesn't mean you're gonna come into Reach and dominate. Switching over to COD for a year doesn't help either.

And Shadow, Halo has a pretty steep learning curve, you just gotta keep playing it to get better.

I've enjoyed this game so far. Except Headhunter on Paradiso, lol.

^^^, ^^ i find myself frustrated even when i'm doing well. it's just a ridiculous game. i tried, honestly, for several hours today and i never once played a game of reach that was fun. i jumped back into mw2, and even fumbling with the change in controls i was having a good time.

i've come to the realization that halo reach has more in common with killzone 2 than anything else. you feel like you're running at about -2.6 miles per hour, shooting play-doh bullets and getting spawn-killed in an environment that is otherwise both aesthetically pleasing and excellently scored. i like the style of halo, and i think it looks good and sounds great, but the gameplay just isn't there.

Haha I was booted once yesterday by some fucker that started shooting at my back...out of instinct I spun and fired....my rocket launcher at his feet.

Turns out he was also on the red team...punted be back to the lobby...oh well I had 2X the amount of kills than anyone else on the red team at that point.

I think I'm obsessed with the armory...I can't settle on one look, and I'll switch things up every 4-5 games...to the point that I miss the gametype voting and I have no idea what we're playing until the match begins.

I heart this game so much!

I love hearing MW2 junkies compain about Halo.

Don't get me wrong, I played a ton of MW2 and was pretty good at it, but I still call it a game of "I saw you first." It rewards camping by giving you killstreak bonuses that get you even MORE kills. Things like the helicopter and harrier that fly around and automatically get kills FOR you are ridiculous.

So go back to sitting in a corner using One Man Army to get unlimited claymores and noob-tubes. I'll be having fun in Reach knowing that I EARNED that killtacular.

And anyone that's watched me sprinting around Reflection racking up kills would never complain that Reach isn't "fast paced."

Haven't even bought anything from the Armory yet, I'll probably save until I can buy the top-tier items.

For now I'm rocking one of the Halo Waypoint unlocks, very few people seem to be using those.

rofl that's not how i play, but go ahead and assume things...it's fun...
i played again last night after watching that video of how many shots it takes to kill someone and was doing a bit better

how come some kids can get one shot kills on me with the DMR across the map on Pinnacle and it takes a few shots for me? and i barely peek them when they do this - i didn't think the DMR was a one-shot kill?

SWAT is no shields, so 1 headshot = instant death.

I'm finding it much more difficult than H2 or 3 to get multikills beyond doubles. I must just still suck at this game.

If anybody cares, the new Reach figures which McFarlane has put out are a huge improvement over the Halo 3 figures. Ratched joints, more points of articulation (including wrists and toes), better paint apps, and back-of-belt pegs for grenades were a pleasant surprise. I've only got Noble Six so far but I might consider picking up the rest of the team at some point.
