I hope Corvo plays better these next two years, unlike the last two. There were handfuls of games where he just looked burned out on our team.

Meh, I like it. Not a true shut down guy, but he isn't Jay Harrison either. I wouldn't mind seeing Babchuck traded now for a more defensive minded guy.

what the fuck do you mean, WHHYYYYYY

perhaps you would like Jay Harrison playing minutes?

I don't get the Corvo hate. We got him for less than he made last year, too. And for powerplay D options we now have Pitkanen, Corvo, McBain, and Babchuk. Pretty awesome imo

and believe me, i love to point out caniac recycling, but i don't think playoff rentals fall under that category.

I actually need to clarify my statement from earlier.... I like Corvo, I think he has a lot of ups.... I just seem to remember him struggling his last season or so here.

Does it help our defense? yes. Is he better than Harrison? well yeah, so is my coffee cup. What I don't like is recycling EVERYONE we let go of at some point. Sure, he's a good d-man, and pretty nice for $2.5, but he's not a shutdown player, he's not going to bring anything to the table that Pitkanen and McBain already don't. I'd rather try to get someone who plays a stay at home game, as currently, Gleason is the only one who I wouldn't consider an offensive defenseman.

Sweden, how'd Skinner (and the other rookies) look today? I'm probably gonna head out tomorrow or Friday.

not sure. but since the forwards are testing out the young'ns, why not give that d-slot to Borer, or FFS, re-sign Carson for less than $1m

I would've liked to see Borer get a shot. I know he got hurt in that bus accident, but he was the top defensive prospect we had for a while until he got hurt and McBain started to show what he could do more. Same goes for Carson, he started to play well last year and is more of a stay at home variety guy who would be relatively cheap in the 3rd pairing.

well i mean all corvo needs to be is a top 4 guy

sure he's not a "shutdown" guy, but he's more than competent, especially when otherwise we'd have to rely on younger depth players

and shit, he may even get outplayed by mcbain and get pushed down to the bottom pairing. i think it's a great signing for the D considering what our options were.

and we are probably going to resign Carson. there was a method to JR's madness letting him go without being qualified -- if he had been qualified, he could have filed for abitration and probably gotten paid more than we will sign him for.

[Edited on July 7, 2010 at 8:01 PM. Reason : borer looked pretty good in preseason 2-3 seasons ago, I wouldn't mind seeing him take harrison]

All based off an hour's worth of viewing skates, puck drills, and a few minutes of 1 on 1 and 2 on 2. I spent most of the time watching the D and Skinner:

Riley Nash looks like a former 1st round pick, and I don't see any reason he needs to return to school. He should sign an entry level deal and at least play in the A this year. Could be a surprise as an injury callup.

Jared Staal is big. That's about all I can say about him, he didn't look like anything special.

Justin Faulk could turn into a stud, very positionally sound, looks like a hell of a 2nd round pickup.

Austin Levi is huge, and might not be a "homer" pick after all. Well not only a homer pick anyway, he looked good.

Jeff Skinner might be in Raleigh next year. He's got quick hands that make up for his lack of explosive skating. The puck doesn't stay on his stick long, and it usually finds the net. He barreled over Faulk once so his "small" size doesn't appear to be a major issue.

I spent most of my time watching the defenseman drills while the offense was on the other side of the ice. Some of the guys looked shaky, but it could be first day jitter type stuff.

Agreed. Corvo is a solid offensively minded defenseman.

Our D is definitely looking promising.

Plus I get to scream Cuervo again when he scores. Awesomeness.

Brett Carson signed. 1 year/2 way (500k/105k).

http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=534661

Should relegate Harrison to 7th D-man at best. Excellent work.

Optimism?

http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=534683

Carson will likely end up staying in Raleigh, not Charlotte.

I hope the Hurricanes beat the Devils in all four games that they meet this year and then make the playoffs and are matched up with them in the first round and sweep the Devils in 4. There, I said it.

Karmanos to unveil All-Star Game logo Monday, as well as the big - BIG - plans we have for it: http://carhur.com/bbn

why are they doing it at "Plaza Condos Amenities Level (23rd floor)" and not the RBC?

i hope the logo isn't related to that shit they had on the jumbotron during the last couple games of the season

which includes the convention center that will house the all-star fan experience

ETC. ETC.
