I've seen The Usual Suspects too.
It's funny that the Devil wasn't even a part of Hebrew tradition until a brief occupation of Mesopotamia by the Persians, in which the beliefs of Zoraster were merged with their own traditions.

Wow, I'm convinced! Platitudes hold the utmost truth and evidentiary existence.
Did you know that aliens came to me personally and told me that you were wrong? I can't prove it, but you can't disprove it. They are unobservable to anyone but me. But I know it's the truth. I have faith. They also left me a nice manual detailing the truth. But you can only understand it completely if you believe it before hand.
How fucking retarded does that sound?
Golovko, I await your next ad hominem or stupid platitude.
By the way, the greatest trick the great anti-alien psychic force ever pulled was convincing the world that it didn't exist.5/19/2010 12:10:13 AM |

Your creditability has gone out the window.
You stated you would not continue this, yet your emotions have overwhelmed you on this subject and you can't resist the urge to respond allowing your emotion to over come reason.
Also, look up what ad hominem means while you are at it. Because your responses are classic ad hominem.5/19/2010 12:27:04 AM |

You saying things does not make them true. If you can demonstrate how I am not being reasonable go ahead.

Guess which logical fallacy you're committing when you address my character instead of the argument at hand?
Additionally, I have a right to change my mind regarding my tolerance to responding to your posts. Frankly, I'm proud of the restraint I've shown towards your consistent obtuseness regarding this discussion. You consistently attack my character, don't refute any point I make, and call me a troll. You claim that my position is undermined, but you don't even have a position. The most substantive post you've made is:
Quote : | "Its becoming more evident in this thread that you are just trolling. Your troll ability is on a rapid decline, however.
It really all boils down to you being pissed off that something is beyond your understanding. (which I wouldn't be surprised if you encounter that quite often in day to day life). Are you mad that you can't grasp faith and feel left out? I pity you. " |
which is pure ad hominem. The sad part is that I let you distract me from the people in this thread that are actually interested in having a conversation. The good thing is I don't have to do that any more.

nah, i would say everyone including myself and even children who die of cancer deserve death. Anything other than that is an act of grace. Well I say "I" but really I believe God says that and I agree as it flows from the fact that he is Just among other things. Why? Because all have rebelled against God. Anywho, before you respond, please understand that this isn't God's end goal. He obviously wants everyone to come to know him but in order to do that we must choose him. Without choosing God then it isn't love, its automation.
Also, I do believe in an age of accountability, IE children who don't know any better go to heaven. See 2nd Samuel 12:23 among a few other verses that i can't think of off the top of my head for scriptural basis." |
It's purely an emotional and philosophical response, but I can't believe in this, especially without evidence. I cannot reconcile a loving powerful god that would want children to die of cancer. It makes much more sense that we exist in an amoral Universe that doesn't care how old a person is when the cosmic rays hit their dna and mutate it.
I do like your age of accountability idea as it seems a bit more just, but I think that's simply a justification because you see the revolting implications without something like that. That's a good sign.
Finally, do you get my alien analogy? Doesn't it seem silly? Yet it has the exact same amount of plausibility as God. If I believe that aliens have beamed the truth directly into my head, am I justified in my belief? Further, would I be justified to convince you to believe it?5/19/2010 1:13:42 AM |
