i just read the ideal bf thread from a few years ago and i can honestly say the only thing that's changed is my height preference...haha...

he must be family oriented....i am very close to my family and i want somebody that understands how important family is - along that same vein...i want someone that isn't ashamed of my family and where i came from...my family is not wealthy...my parents don't have the nicest things, but they have worked hard for what they have...i am proud of them for what they have accomplished and admire the hard work and effort they both put into making sure that i had everything i needed (and most of what i wanted) growing up - as far as politics and religion go....these are very personal to me so all i ask is he respect my beliefs and my values...it would be nice if he were a conservative Christian...but it's not necessary...he just need not criticize or condemn me for being one - he must respect that there are things i enjoy in life that he probably has no interest in...mainly cattle shows...i will not force this activity and lifestyle on him but he needs to understand what a large part of my life this has always been and not make a big deal out of my continued participation in it....i will grant him the same courtesy when it comes to activities he likes that i do not...however, if he takes an interest or is at least willing to learn then he will make me very happy - he must understand that i am a very social being....i like to have a good time with a wide variety of people...if he allows me to do this with little grief i will always happily return home to him....even though i would rather him be right there beside me - along that line....he must also realize that i have a shit ton of male friends and will not tolerate undeserved jealousy...if i truly care about him there is no other man alive that will turn my head so he has nothing to worry about - conversely....i do want him to be protective of me...but there is a difference between protective and possessive - i would like him to be somewhat physically aggressive....NOT ABUSIVE...but not afraid to go after what he wants....i have no problems making a move....but i shouldn't have to every time - i want a real man....he doesn't have to be some macho douche bag....but he can't be a pussy and a pushover either...he should be able to put me in my place when i get out of line....not let me run all over him - he must accept me as his equal but still know how to make me feel like a woman...i'm independent enough in the rest of my life and can hold my own...but it's nice to have someone that recognizes that i am NOT one of the guys - cocky...i like cocky....there is nothing wrong with being confident and being a bit of an asshole on occasion as long as it's not a major character flaw - i love a man that can drop knowledge articulately....it's pretty hot watching a guy talk his way, logically and accurately, out of a situation or cut a dumbass to bits when he knows what he's talking about - he can't be afraid to upset me on occasion...if a man can't incite a little fiery passion in me then i don't really care enough about him anyway - he should be able to deal with my contradictory moods or at least give me time to deal with them....i can go from outgoing and silly to very introspective and caustic pretty easily...if he gives me the space i need to work through these changes then i will very rarely bother him with the underlying issue...i'm not an advice seeker...but i do have to figure things out for myself sometimes and that requires some alone time - i don't need someone to always be around...actually i prefer he not be....i have a tendency to take it for granted when he is always available...a little distance will make me appreciate him more - i don't want him to be just like me...someone like me would be exhausting...i need someone that is strong where i am weak and vice versa....this will balance me out and God knows I need some balance - he should accept my character flaws and realize that i am probably more aware of them than anyone and i'm continually working on improving them....he doesn't have to bring them to my attention and try to change them - some of the same interests and hobbies, or at least an appreciation of some of the same things, would be great...this could be music, literature, art, interior design, sports, movies, etc. - he should make me feel needed without being needy...a man that can do this will win me over big time - he can't be an alcoholic but if he's happy sitting on a deck or on the porch drinking beers with me and talking about everything and nothing then i'm happy - NO DRUGS (this is non-negotiable) - not overly dramatic - he can NOT be filthy....i will clean up after him but i won't tolerate a slob - he must be able to cook...because i don't really enjoy it...i'll do it...i just don't like to (but i will do the dishes for him ) - i must be able to sit alone with him for hours without speaking or doing anything and be perfectly content and entertained...that won't happen much...but if i can do that then he's a keeper - he's got to let me cuddle...i'm not a PDA person...but when we're alone I'm very touchy-feely....i can't be with a man that refuses to touch me - he should care about his appearance (shave, wear clean/nice clothes, bathe on the regular)....and smell REALLY good - he should respect me - he can't be afraid to tell me that he cares about me sometimes....not just when he's wasted or has fucked up...i don't need constant reassurance or anything...but i do like to know that he thinks about me ok...i guess i could go on and on forever here...so i'll just finish with this one...and it's the most important... - he MUST be my best friend at the end of the day"
