I disagree, but regardless, that was still before they started developing the characters into what they are now.

So what you're saying is that there was no character development in season 1 or 2? Because that's pretty fucking stupid.

^^Which season do you think was the best then?

I made a graph of the episodes while I was bored at work once. Let me find it.

peaks: the client, dundies
valleys: the banker (clip show!!?!!! on my office?!?!), pretty much all of last season

I do like The Office. I was at the point of not watching it anymore but Season 7 has redeemed the show for me. I wanted to make the case that The Office used to be amazing and now a great episode is still not nearly as good as any episode from season 2.

Not as much, and it had a different feel then.

How could anyone say Season 1 is the best? It was 6 episodes, one of which was hardly at all different than the English pilot.

Season 2 was definitely the best. Not even really close. 3 was a bit contrived but still really, really good.

I think season one was good, but it was so short I can't really compare it to the rest of the series. Michael Scott definitely had some great oneliners in those six episodes.

^ Diversity Day is one of the best episodes of all time. Basketball was pretty funny too. Season 1 definitely had its moments.

Season 2 > Season 1 > Season 3 >> all the other seasons for me. I watched regularly until season 5. We still DVR it just because but we only end up watching some of the episodes.

I did not like this episode. I only laughed a couple times, and that was mainly at Andy acting stupid for DeAngelo.
I was disappointed.
I watched some reruns of season 2&3 last week and it reminded me of how funny it CAN be.

I really hope Will Ferrell is only 4 episodes. I want to see Darryl as boss.

For me it just seemed off. Everyone sucking up to the new boss wasn't funny. I hate how they're making Daryl into a bitch. There were funny parts (Erin shaving Michael, Andy being the "funny guy"), but it didn't make up for the rest of the episode.

I didn't think it was bad as everybody here is saying but it definitely wasn't good.

It seemed worse after watching a great Parks and Rec episode too.

I thought it was pretty good. Could have been better but it also could have been a lot worse. We just have to accept that DeAngelo will not be Michael Scott and that's that. On a side note, there was some show on with Paul Reiser right before the office and it was ATROCIOUS.

i'm not sure that saying it "could have been a lot worse" is really a point in their favor

and that's why i'll quite likely quit watching altogether...not because i'm a huge fan of the michael scott character, but because i can't stand will ferrell in the majority of things that he does...i may be in the minority, and that's fine, but the majority of the comedy he's done since SNL has just sucked (to me)

^Other than a few exceptions, I also agree. Some of Will Ferrell's comedy is painful to watch.

That being said, I did enjoy the episode last night. I didn't think it was amazing by any stretch, but I enjoyed it.

agree. I thought it started off really well and I was excited but by the end I just hated Will Ferrell's character and just thought it was "off". There just wasn't much funny there, especially that last scene about the baby being ugly etc. it was just weird and not funny.

Just end the show.... stop dragging it on.

Did he say the baby was ugly? I thought he just said he didn't care about it.

Anyway, not a funny episode, but not a bad one. A decent bridge to what's next I guess, but I agree that I didn't like Darryl being a kiss up. I wish there was only one transition episode and not three.

BTW, props to the show for how little Gabe has been seen recently. Good move, hopefully he'll be gone for good soon.

Someone told me they brought back the Dundies tonight? That is my favorite episode of The Office, maybe even my favorite sitcom episode of all time.

Will this ruin it for me?

Maybe my favorite episode of the season...I really liked it. Still not really a fan of the Will Ferrell character though. Michael's impressions (especially Jim's) were hilarious. The whole scene at Meredith's house was funny. And Dwight asking everyone to "remain standing" for DeAngelo when no one stood up to being with. Looking forward to next week's episode.

Eh, I still think it will be Angela's boyfriend. (The STATE SENATOR.)

He was at the restaurant but wasn't there when they moved back to the office (from what I could tell.)
