You can't catch the wild card if you lose 2/3 to the Nationals

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2011/2612179.html

Updated (since the Zach Wheeler trade) Mets top 10 prospects:
Quote :
" 1. Zack Wheeler, rhp
Not an easy call, but I'm taking Wheeler over Harvey because he has a higher ceiling.
2. Matt Harvey, rhp
Tore up high Class A, has struggled in Double-A during his first pro season.
3. Brandon Nimmo, of
Highest pick ever from Wyoming (No. 13) was one of draft's best athletes.
4. Jeurys Familia, rhp
Still throwing in mid-90s, has improved command after rough 2010 season.
5. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, of
Not fair to call him an overachiever when he keeps producing everywhere he goes.
6. Jennry Mejia, rhp
System's No. 1 prospect entering 2011 had Tommy John surgery in May.
7. Cesar Puello, of
Having inconsistent year in high Class A, but still has five-tool potential.
8. Michael Fulmer, rhp
Fastball jumped to mid-90s, slider to mid-80s during high school senior year.
9. Jordany Valdespin, ss/2b
Enjoying breakout year with bat in Double-A, needs more defensive consistency.
10. Wilmer Flores, ss
Left field is best-case defensive scenario, and scouts are losing enthusiasm for his bat."

^All those pitchers and outfielders...another reason to keep the Davis/Murphy/Reyes/Wright infield intact.

Makes me think back to these days:

All of our top prospects (Milledge, Mejia, Martinez, Flores) seem to shit themselves whenever they get close to the big leagues.

Here's hoping a 1-2-3 of Wheeler, Harvey, and Mejia in 2014 isn't a pipe dream.

Three year period of injuries never before seen in baseball (at least by projected starters games lost). Worst part is these aren't old players trying to hang on. It's 24-28 year olds.

I don't know what to say even at this point. Get better soon Murph, Reyes, Johan and Davis... At least Wright is back after missing 2.5 months.

These major league teams that lose to the Mets right now ought to be embarrassed. Reyes, Murphy (two of the top five average hitters in the NL) Davis, Santana, Young are all out hurt. K-Rod and Beltran have been traded. Bay forgot how to hit after being signed. Wright is two weeks back from a broken back.

How the fuck is this team .500? This roster shouldn't even be .500 in the IL or PCL.

I'm making it a point to watch tonight because Mike Baxter is starting. Pretty much living every young Mets fans dream growing up in that area..

That game was probably the only time in the past decade that I was actually happy for the Mets to win a game.

Reyes was definitely my favorite player...it sucks he's gone, especially to a divisional opponent.

Phillies have one year left in their window, Braves are a RHB and a solid season from Uggla away from being the best team in the NL, Nats are trending upward and the Marlins are obviously hell-bent on making a run this year

There's no breakaway team, but there are four solid contenders... and the shit-sucking Mets

No hyperbole, this is the potentially the worst team in baseball next year in what should be the strongest division

Mets are gonna get pummeled regularly next year. YOUR ACE IS RA DICKEY COME ON

Not even close to the worst team. 73-89 is probably where theyd be doing nothing but getting Ike back healthy and Johan at least throwing a 4.50 era over 100 innings.

Not sure if we should just go ahead and make a 2012 Mets thread or what...but a few moves yesterday:

Mets sign Reliever Frank Francisco to 2 year, $12 million deal

Mets trade Angel Pagan to SF for OF Andres Torres and Reliever Ramon Ramirez

Mets sign Reliever Jon Rauch to 1 year, $3.5 million deal

Obviously these moves aren't going to vault us into playoff contention. But we did address a big need by bolstering the bullpen.

With Beltran AND Pagan gone there is no more outfield defense, no arms that can throw to the plate, and Wright is the only reliable bat in the lineup (if Davis comes back big then great, but it will take time to see)
