it will be interesting to see just how soon precip starts falling in wake county..

areas in the southern part of the county near fuquay could end up seeing it almost an hour before folks in the far northern part of the county

most outputs i look at have the precip starting to fall at the surface in wake anywhere from 2PM until 6PM at night

wow. the weather channel is fucking horrible. said snow would being at 1 AM. LOL fail.

yeh, yeh, I know you weathertards. TWC sucks. But whatever, I normally use it to see temp & if it's going to rain or not... which is good enough for me.

Weather.com hourly forecast said a chance of snow beginning early in the morning (I recall ~30% around 6AM maybe earlier), but not more than 50% until 1 PM. Not sure what you looked at, they usually give a "chance" of snow starting earlier.

my mom called me from Pembroke this morning and said when she woke up at 6am nothing then at 7:30 she couldn't believe it. I think the weather people missed it. They said the snow wouldnt get there until 10am and be 1-3 inches. By the picture I got there was at least 3 inches on the ground by 8am

from looking at the radar loop the northern part if the system broke up just before getting to raleigh. the majority of the precip is to our south and the storm is tracking more east then north east. is this thing supposed to turn to a more north/north-east track? if not we may not get shit.

we have 3-4 inches in Fayetteville and it's still coming down. Funny thing is, it's usually the opposite. Usually the snow stays just north of us.

no, i'm in rocky mount. raleigh's weather is not relevant to me. it's always this way (except w/ the storm the day after xmas). snow, thunderstorms, or rain can head toward us in a big blob then bisect & go right around...then join back together around tarboro.

the precip field is moving toward raleigh...plus when this thing interacts with coastal moisture later today/tonight, we'll get more in this area

^ this.

You can already see more moisture in filling in as the low starts moving from what I can gather. But unfortunately we'll start seeing that transition line creep North as well... gonna be a fucking disaster in RDU around rush hour tonight.

I say that with optimism, but the more i look at the regional radar returns, the less i think we will get.

the returns in SC are weak and most of the heavier precip is going south and east of us...
i don't know what they predict the radar will look like later tonight/tonight...
maybe this is why they said we wouldn't get much until mid/late afternoon and evening...

There's more moisture coming as the main low hasn't even formed off the NC coast yet today.

yeah, that's what i was hoping...

what sites do you guys mainly look at for model output and ir/vis/wv imagery?

i used to have access to garp but lost that a while back

UCAR
weather.gov
NCEP NOAA
Allan Huffman's page is really good for model output.

But the problem with ^^that is the low will form too close to NC, pushing mid-level warming farther inland than you want. That's why we're ending up with this freezing rain/sleet/rain/snow crap.

Radar is just not sticking together right over Raleigh -- whenever it looks like the precip might come it breaks up and splits downtown.

mike maze just cut in with a 2pm update and said the system is weakening and that doesn't bode well for the triangle. dew point still 9 at rdu...

geez this is looking more and more like we aren't going to get anything here in wake

seems like this line of precip is moving slower then i expected. still nothing here in NW Raleigh. This could be good though because if it moves slow we'll get more accumulation.
