They are the Yankees of the EPL...well maybe not anymore now that Man City are trying to buy a trophy.

The Arsenal situation is pretty bad. Wenger just needs to buy so he can field a team...one injury and he has to pull from the reserve squad. Last year, Frimpong and Lansbury were on the reserve squad, Miquel still is, and Jenkinson was playing for a non-league team.

Did some math post match:

Average age of Arsenal starters today was 23.7 years old. Average age of the 10 that finished the game was 22.6.

Average age of Liverpool starters today was 25.7 years old. Average age of the 11 that finished was 25.6.

2-3 years of experience is a pretty big gap...

Chelsea's had 75% of the possession through 1 hour. That's ridiculous.

In other news, it looks like the Adebayor deal is agreed on and Diarra should be in as soon as Crouch is out. We might finally have a real goal scorer up front now.

Hopefully Spurs fans can resurrect their favorite Adebayor song.

Adebayor, Adebayor, his father washes elephants and his mother's a whore

Or even a new one.

Adebayor, Adebayor, used to like bus rides but not anymore

If I had to guess, it's two main reasons:

and

Also: Ballack, Anelka, Drogba, Cole, Lampard, Mikel, Robben, Gallas, Torres... they've had a lot of players that are very easy to dislike. For a while there, Essien was the only player I liked that played for them.

[Edited on August 20, 2011 at 2:05 PM. Reason : can't believe I forgot Torres]

Chelsea = Yankees?

Yeah, minus any semblance of a history or league titles.

Ok I'm an admitted baseball hater so I probably shouldn't have used a baseball analogy. My thought was that the Yankees are known, at least in recent years, as being a team that has really deep pockets to buy flashy, expensive players to try to win titles. Since Roman bought Chelsea they have spent a fortune and have worn several trophies as well. Plus both teams have been around for ages, although Chelsea apparently sucked in the early years.

Man U is like the Lakers. Big name all over the world, decades of success, you either love them or hate them.

But enough about other (lesser) sports...

Don't know what Arsenal is doing wrong...Mata deal confirmed by Valencia today to Chelsea. When Arsenal was trying to get him, his father said he wasn't leaving the club, Valencia said they didn't want to sell him, and the deal fell apart. I'm guessing Roman came in with a better offer, but with $48M in Fabrecash I don't know why Arsenal just didn't pay Valencia what they wanted.

Nasri deal on the rocks...hope it falls apart and Arsenal can hold onto him until at least January.

^ I don't know why any team (that could get him) would want him in January if he's cup tied and can't play in CL

Have you guys seen the FourFourTwo app on iTunes called StatsZone? It's really cool, has some very in depth stats of each match. You can create your own comparisons too...just to try it out I did one of Glenn Whelan this week vs last since there was such a marked difference in his involvement.

Nasri is a free transfer after this season so Arsenal would be foolish not to sell him off at some price if he has no desire to return him to the club.

I also just watched the Norwich-Stoke highlights. The Norwich fans were so happy to score their first league goal. Sucks they couldn't keep the three points.

welp, since La Liga is going to be out of pocket for the next couple of weeks, I guess I might as well start watching some EPL (totally not trying to start an EPL vs La Liga argument, just saying I need a fix).

Even the Yankees think so considering their partnership with YankeeNets back earlier this decade.

That's what I thought before, but as it becomes increasingly clear that none of the money made from selling players will actually be re-invested, I would almost rather he stay.

I'm hoping that Bale and VDV go bananas on de Gea. What ever the case, I have all three on my fantasy squad so someone will be picking up points somewhere.

That corner he put out of bounds was one of the biggest wtf moments in recent history. If we don't draw or win now I doubt we ever will. 45 min to go, Vidic and Rio out, Smalling at RB, and a shaky keeper.

This is go time boys.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Arry flip the wings at the half. Lennon vs Smalling and Bale vs Evra

I only saw from the first goal on, but United looked several levels better. They were dominating and it could have easily been 4 or 5..

Yeah, Tottenham have been outclassed. They've had opportunities here and there (mostly on the break) but their passing has always broken down. And United have had far more opportunities.

If the rumored Liverpool deals go down, I'll be extremely pleased. Coates looks like a legit CB for the future and I've always been a Bellamy fan, who can still produce in a backup role.

Also, Cole/Ngog leaving would be nice. Too bad about Aquilani leaving too but he would never get a game.
