On ESPN they just said that found a few people (at Penn St) who were in support of the decision to fire Paterno, but they refused to do an interview because they were afraid of getting beat up.

anybody who doesn't think that firing JoePa was the right thing to do needs to seriously reevaluate their worth as a human being

there is nothing hard about this. he was told what happened. he was right within the law. all that prevents him from is going to jail. he was morally wrong in washing his hands of this situation and allowing a predator to continue to be free. there is no reason why he should be protected from this.

As someone else pointed out, the fact that Joe Paterno is a bigger story than Sandusky is disappointing.

i don't think anyone is saying that what joe did is worse. but yeah, the legendary coach having his career ended by getting fired is a big story. it's pretty shocking.

i mean if the president covered up a murder for an old friend of his, you're damn sure that would be the lede, not the murder itself

Yeah I know...Paterno getting fired is definitely a huge story (especially given the circumstances). But it's unfortunate that I've been watching ESPN for more than 5 minutes and haven't heard Sandusky's name mentioned yet.

The Sandusky story is over, dude was arrested, nothing to talk about until trial.

The Paterno, et. al story is about the cover up, which is still unfolding.

At this moment, it's not disappointing at all. Sandusky is sitting is awaiting trial, there's nothing to report. A guy who's been coaching for 40+ years -- the winningest coach of all time -- just got fired. That's something no one saw coming just a week ago. It's fucking huge.

^^ Yeah, but if you have a beef with Paterno being fired, you need to take it up with Sandusky, not the Board of Trustees.

* "you" referring to those in general, not Ernie. Sandusky is completely relevant to what's going on.

Yeah, kinda surprised at the lack of ire directed towards McQueary.

Not completely sure what I'd do if I actually walked in on a man raping a kid, but going back to my office and calling my dad probably wouldn't be high on the list.

Ugh, we all know that he did what he was supposed to do. That's even in the grand jury testimony. Legally at least.

But he didn't do what he needed to do and because of it more kids lives were likely ruined. And even if Sandusky became an angel afterwards and stopped doing it (which loads and loads of research suggests is an almost impossibility) he was enabled to.

And for a man who leads kids/young adults, that isn't good enough.

I can't believe Sandusky is free on $100k bail. He must be at some undisclosed location because I think there's a pretty high risk of vigilante justice.

Also Paterno thumbed his nose at the suggestion of immediate disciplinary action... oh no worries, I'll just retire in a few months. That's going to get him some attention from the people that feel like the situation should be dealt with ASAP. And of course he'll get even more attention when people are rioting in the streets in support of him.

With all this rioting and anger over the firing of a coach that sat idle and allowed child rape to continue it is extremely easy to see how the crimes got swept under the rug in the first place. Maintaining a football legacy comes before any moral obligation. These students and other supporters are just a part of the problem. It's going to be a tough one to fix. Maybe they should require a course on ethics, morals, and how to be a good citizen for all incoming freshman. Common Sense 100. Heck, maybe have 4 courses, a refresher for each year.

I'm thinking PSU almost has to leave the family for their next coaching hire. I'm a Miami fan, so of course I'm biased, but I don't think they can bring in a Joe Pa disciple.

^Golden was promoted when Sandusky was relieved of his duties, not sure they can hire anyone associated with that time period/last 9 years.

Mcqueary isn't a small guy, no reason he should have left the kid there.

Here is a letter Mcqueary had been sending to recruits

wasn't he a relatively small fish when the event happened?

and i was just thinking about this. how in the hell do the people who witnessed this live with themselves knowing that they could've stopped this man from molesting and raping more children, and they didn't? more boys lives were ruined, and they could've stopped it.

so sad.

^I believe his playing height/weight was 6'4" 213 lbs, so I can't imagine he was smaller at age 28. Unless you are referring to small fish on staff, as in he didn't act out of fear for his job/career which I could see, but still is no excuse in my opinion. I don't think he would have had any problem finding work if he stopped a child from being raped, more like a hero.

McQueary wasnt just a normal graduate assistant/waterboy type person though. He was a former starting quarterback who transitioned to the staff after he graduated.

When I first heard that a grad assistant saw the Sandusky acts I was thinking it was just a clipboard carrying idiot who would never stand up to the big bad D. Coordinator. But after finding out who it actually was changed my opinion a lot.
