that shot was nowhere close to going in

no idea how anyone could think it was going in

This is NC State. Logic doesn't factor into it.

Worse things have happened to the BBall team.

big difference in being afraid about the shot before he takes it and seeing the shot and knowing it doesn't have a chance

Yeah, losing Wood and having to get readjusted to playing with Calvin is going to be rough on the team.

Plus Vandy is probably still pissed about the early loss and wants to prove that they should be higher than #20.

a win is a win and I am damn happy to have Gottfried and not Sid and there are obvious reasons to be extremely excited about the program, but that game wasn't anything to get too excited over

Great coaching tonight. Seriously....if this was last year and we lost Scott Wood and seemingly couldn't find a way to slow down that shooting performance in the 1st half, we would have tanked it.

Coach Gottfried used Tyler Harris really nicely, and I think he's going to be a huge contributor for us.

Very pleased to see us come out with the win. Also, a nice confidence boost for AJ sinking that 3. Great drive to the bucket at 3:45 as well...and don't look now, but Vandy is starting to look like a legit center!!! He altered several shots, and even ran the floor for a great slam.

Good stuff tonight, Wolfpack.

They were hitting every damn 3 they took it seemed. They were also playing good defense. It didn't help that we lost Wood or that Brown had the flu. I think the reason they lost to Wagner was because it was their coach's very first game ever as a head coach. How many head coaches win their first game ever, particularly when they don't have better talent? I think he'll be a pretty good coach based on what I saw to night and who he's been mentored by.

While pretty much everyone here hates the Princeton offense, it is tough to prepare for on short notice (see UCLA game in the 1996 tournament).

Postgame interview with Gott, he said Wood had a "pretty bad sprain". God I hope it is not a high ankle sprain. I hope Brown gets better too.

we won three games tonight as a team.

1) we came back from a pretty big first half deficit
2) we took a lead while they were shooting lights out
3) we held them off from coming back and held onto a lead for 4 or so minutes

i like this team. they have awesome chemistry, and make you play a full 40 minute game. no slacking off for any huge stretches.

then even better is that they know how to play a great 30 seconds of defense, and make the other team work real hard for points.

That's what the commentators were calling it during the game. Could be that they were wrong and just assuming the worst since Wood wasn't coming back onto the floor (but wasn't being taken to the hospital for xrays)

although sports med has come a long way since 10 yrs ago when it seemed sprains could keep guys out 6 weeks...

It sort of is. We lose that game 10 times out of 10 with Sid on the sidelines. And with 2 1/2 starters down and a thin bench and two days to prepare against a really tall team that runs a goofy-ass offense, 9 times out 10 Sid loses by double digits. We played strong from start to finish and never had any big letdown moments -- things we could never count on last year.

Yeah, the only reason we even had a chance to win is because guys hustled all game. They need to get the passes a little crisper though.

http://www.gopack.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/122210aaa.html

of course they aren't completely analogous, but the point is we won a game like this last year

this is in no way defending Sid, just trying to calm things down a bit

There's a comparison to be drawn to a game like Delaware State, sure. But Delaware State is a team that no high-major should ever lose to; with our talent they shouldn't have even been in that game. Princeton is gonna sneak up on a couple teams every year and pull games out where they're they're at a talent disadvantage. No one really looks down on you for losing a close game to Princeton early in the season -- especially when they shoot like they did in the first.

First game I saw in person. A few thoughts:

- Team defense was very good in the second half. Abysmal in the first half. And has nothing to do with the shots falling for Princeton in the first half. Any school could shoot 60% from 3 against that defense.

- Very pleasantly surprised by Vandendberg's improvement. His footwork is A LOT better.

- Painter still is way too soft around the hoop, but tough to criticize him given the game.

- Alex Johnson wasn't very good in any phase tonight. Not sure where he fits in on an ACC roster.

- Gottfried seems like he's a pretty good coach, but he can't get a T in that situation. He just can't...

Uh, emergency stop-gap backup with experience? He's not gonna make All-ACC, but he 1. keeps a walk-on from playing 10 minutes a game and 2. prevents having to waste a scholarship on Julius Mays v2.0

[Edited on November 16, 2011 at 9:39 PM. Reason : Johnson is a 1 that distribute well but can't shoot for shit. Not sure why Brown is there with Lewis]

Didn't watch the game. Looking at the box score, they put up 11 more shots than us. How the hell did that happen?

Perimeter defense still looks like shit, as it has all year and all of Sid Lowe's years.

princeton owns us .. this was a big win
we are now 2-5 in the historical series between the two teams

fucking deshawn painter knocking down that winning shot with confidence was a statement to how far he has came since last year.

i loved the way this team fought hard esp. after wood went down.

I don't think he was looking to get a T there, just trying to work the officials some. He may still be a little rusty there, so he may have overstepped the line, when normally he wouldn't.

The Wood injury hurt us in the 1st half big time. Howell missing 3 or 4 point blank shots in a row didn't help either.
