nah

it's a horrible logo

couple that with the wolf trio logo, the mid-to-late 90's weren't a good time for NC State logos

The nSc one is terrible.

I like the wolf trio logo though. Not as a main logo like the traditional block S or Tuffy, but as an occasionally-used supplemental one I really like it.

love the diamond S. love the 90's three wolf heads. hate the 3 howling wolves. maybe I wouldn't if nc state was written differently beneath it. I like our old school "block" s also. like the one in the brickyard.

nobody agrees with me on this, I don't expect tdub to but just throwing that out there.

ANNNNNND back to Tournament discussion.

http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/03/13/1929329/wolfpack-enjoying-ncaa-tournament.html

Quote :
"RALEIGH -- There’s a dental-floss-thin line N.C. State’s trying to walk between soaking in all of the attention coming its way since Sunday’s NCAA tournament selection show and not letting it get to heads.

The video of N.C. State’s reaction to getting into the NCAA tournament, complete with a Whitney Houston soundtrack, has gone viral.

Several of coach Mark Gottfried’s former colleagues at ESPN are picking the Wolfpack to beat San Diego State on Friday and make a run in the NCAA tournament.

Even Las Vegas oddsmakers have taken notice, installing the Wolfpack, the No. 11 seed in the Midwest Regional, as a 2-point favorite over the sixth-seeded Aztecs in Friday’s second-round matchup in Columbus, Ohio (12:40 p.m., truTV).

Guard Alex Johnson became the unwitting star of the reaction video for his impromptu dance moves. He has taken some good-natured jabs from his teammates for his dancing, but he had an easy explanation for the outburst.

“We’re going dancing, so why not dance?” Johnson said.

Johnson said the Wolfpack is feeling the love with all of the extra attention, but there’s work to be done against the Aztecs (26-7).

“You’ve got to shut the TV off and focus on the first game,” Johnson said. “I’m sure San Diego State’s watching ESPN, saying, ‘They’re not going to beat us.’”

Gottfried got a big bear hug from forward DeShawn Painter after the Wolfpack’s name hit the CBS broadcast and had as much fun on Sunday as the players. Gottfried said he has appreciated all of the positive attention for the program since.

“Sunday night was big for our program,” Gottfried said. “Our players enjoyed that night. We have had a couple of days, but now we’ve got to get our minds right and get back to work.”

Junior guard Scott Wood said the extra attention for the program will be fleeting if the Pack doesn’t win on Friday.

“I’m sure a couple of extra people jumped on the bandwagon,” Wood said. “I guarantee once we lose, they’re going to be off.”

Gottfried is wary of the SDSU perimeter threats, Jamaal Franklin (17.2 points per game) and Chase Tapley (15.7 ppg), but he is less concerned about his own team’s tournament inexperience. Gottfried played in the tournament at Alabama, was an assistant at UCLA during its 1995 national title run and led both Murray State and Alabama into the NCAA tournament, but none of the players on the Wolfpack’s roster have experienced the tournament.

“They should enjoy the fact that’s the tournament, and it should be fun for them, but at the same time, it’s a business trip,” Gottfried said. “Just like when we went to Virginia Tech or Miami, you’ve got to go play.”

Forward C.J. Leslie, who led the Wolfpack with an average of 17.3 points per contest in three ACC tournament games, said the players aren’t interested in just making the tournament. They want to make a run.

“We know what we need to do,” Leslie said. “We need to come in with our heads focused and be prepared to win.”"

Wood sounds so optimistic.

I doubt he meant to sound like he thought they were going to lose for sure, i'm sure he meant more like "in the event that we lose" or more of an "if/when" type of thing.

That being said, the more positive press I read about us going into this game, the less confident I become. I guess it's due to years of "NC State Shit" conditioning.

Oh and just for the record, I  the diamond logo.

I agree, and you don't ever really know what question he was responding to either... and we all know how Wood is in his interviews.

I'm just ready for Friday to get here.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/mar/13/nc-state-big-and-big-problem/

Quote :
"Steve Fisher was asked if North Carolina State reminded him of anyone the Aztecs have played this season.

Fisher paused.

He paused some more.

“That’s a good question,” he said.

The Aztecs and Wolfpack both wear red. Both exceeded preseason expectations. Both have short benches. Both will be loaded next season, SDSU with three transfers and three incoming freshmen, N.C. State with three McDonald’s all-Americans. Both beat Elon University. Both have a long-armed junior forward named DeShawn.

And that’s pretty much where the similarities end. Sixth-seeded SDSU and its small-ball lineup have not faced – and here’s where it gets scary for Aztecs faithful – what they will Friday in Columbus, Ohio, in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament.

“This is a pound-it-inside team,” SDSU associate head coach Brian Dutcher said. “If you’re asking what they’re going to do, they’re going to pound it in on us.”

Added 6-foot-7 senior Tim Shelton, the lone Aztecs “big” man who starts: “If I was a coach going up against us and I had their players, I’d obviously want to throw the ball inside.”

The Mountain West prepares you for many things, for altitude, for wild climactic swings, for travel delays, for consistently inconsistent officiating, for barnburner games in front of hostile crowds. One thing it didn’t this year, though, is the 6-8, 250-pound behemoth backing you under the basket, wedging you out of position for a defensive rebound, leaning on you, smothering you, punking you.

Fisher inserted 6-5 Jamaal Franklin into the starting lineup in place of 6-11 Garrett Green for the conference season because Franklin was emerging as an offensive force, and also because he could. Other than New Mexico and 6-9 Drew Gordon, this was a conference devoid of legit bigs. A few teams start a traditional (if undersized) post, but nearly all the power forwards, or 4-men, are what coaches call “stretch 4s,” meaning they drift to the perimeter instead of playing with their back to the basket.

North Carolina State coach Mark Gottfried regularly uses only seven players, but three of them are 6-8 Richard Howell, 6-8 C.J. Leslie and 6-9 DeShawn Painter.

“They’ve got three big guys who are not just tall, but they’re big and strong and good,” Fisher said. “I worry a little bit about that.”

And it’s not just the forwards. All five starters average double-figure points, and four do their best work close to the basket, including 6-5 point guard Lorenzo Brown. Little surprise, then, that the Wolfpack has outscored opposing teams in the paint over seven straight games, including the controversial 69-67 loss to a taller North Carolina squad in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Even worse news: The Wolfpack (22-12) is playing its best basketball of the season, steadily improving after a shaky start against the nation’s 26th-toughest schedule and closing with four straight wins – all must-haves if it hoped to make the tournament – before some curious officiating down the stretch against UNC.

“We’re going to win, fellows,” Gottfried, in his first season, told his jubilant players after they were the final team announced in Sunday’s selection show. “We’re going to win, we’re going to win. We can go to the Final Four. I believe it with all my heart. We’re playing as well as anybody in the nation right now, as anybody in the country.

“We can do it.”

This is a No. 11 seed?

“Watching tape I was hoping they’d be undisciplined or poorly coached or do stupid things,” Dutcher said, “but they’re none of that. They’re well coached, they’re big, they’re disciplined, they’re very good.”

“Usually,” Fisher said, “when you see an ACC team against a Mountain West team, they’re a 6 seed and we’re the 11.”

Brown is a big-time point guard. Scott Wood is the ACC’s most accurate three-point marksman at 41.1 percent and the Wolfpack is 15-1 when he has 12 or more points. C.J. Williams is a lockdown defender at 6-5, 224. Howell is an absolutely load inside. And Leslie, a former McDonald’s all-American now in his sophomore season, was considered by some the ACC’s best player over the second half of the season.

“The fastest big man I’ve ever seen,” Brown said of Leslie, who is averaging 19.2 points, 10.5 rebound and shooting 62.2 percent in the last eight games. “There’s not much you can do with him.”

If James Rahon recovers from the flu bug that had him sit out practice Tuesday and Fisher goes with his usual four-guard lineup, Franklin likely would draw Leslie. But someone will have to guard the smaller, quicker Franklin at the other end.

So who blinks first?

“We’ll be harder to guard with a smaller lineup, and they’ll be harder to guard with a bigger lineup,” Fisher said. “It becomes a question of who says, ‘We have to go bigger, or we have to go smaller?’”"

^^apparently they're still completely oblivious to De Thaey and his unstoppable left-hook. Nor CJ Leslie's ability to deceive the defense into thinking he's going to take it inside, then stepping back behind the line and utilizing his pin-point shooting accuracy from three!
