Actually, no. They removed groundbreaking features from this version so that they could bring you shit that you couldn't even start. Good work, EA

the city size is smaller than the smallest city in SC4... no subways. little to no transportation options. oh, and you still can't fucking play it

How about, instead of a 20 minute timer that does nothing but wait 20 minutes to tell you that the server is unavailable, they show you your position in the queue

that makes too much sense... its EA with their shitty origin crap. It was hard to accept origin with BF3 crap, but this takes it to a whole other level of stupidity that surpasses the D3 launch fail...

I hope this game gets pirated... like a lot.

I installed it tonight and went through the tutorial fine. Joined one of the Europe servers and started a region and a city. I seem to run out of money really fast when trying to complete the objectives. Then they got pissed when I raised taxes.

Sadly, though, I can't even collect trash from my own alternate city

how far do you space apart the roads in this one, doing the zoning just at the road is weird to me. i use to space roads by exactly how far water would go.

there should be a secondary colored sliver that shows you how far the zoning extends

I took to building out a large skeleton road system and just zoning over large areas of the map. Then as those fill up, I would go in and basically build a road right through someone's house and build outwards in that fashion. Start by building large areas with lots of gaps in the middle of them, then draw roads to make them smaller. That way you can also plop all the buildings like parks and schools you want to because there's only zoned buildings next to the roads. It's not how things would work in real life, but it seems to be pretty easy and effective in the game.

tl;dr - eminent domain, bitches

so i don't need any other roads in that secondary line they show me? so my road spacing is double that distance?

guides are pretty helpful, depending on the road density, they pretty much apply to the max building size on either side

ie, they show how to maximize future skyscrapers without wasting space

Yeah, I think the guides are pretty clutch. The only problem with them is some ploppable buildings are larger than the smallest grid size. I've started going one grid space in one direction but two spaces in the other direction to leave room for those buildings. The strategy above sounds pretty good, though.

So the guide scales to the density of the road you're laying down? That seems like it would be a huge problem when you try to increase density later on. Although my strategy does require a LOT of planning on exactly where your things will go later on and that eventually everything will be high density. Destroying a portion of the city to make room for something new seems like a bad idea because I can easily notice the lost revenue from pulling even one medium density building. The same thing happens if a lot of already existing buildings go into construction at the same time.

I still can't buy utilities or basically participate in a region in any way - this is pretty much bullshit since that's a required feature to be worth a damn

how do you change zone value? all i can do is zone on one square next to the road.

you "change zone value" by making the residents/commercial/industrial in that area want to upgrade

I *think* that the scale is the same for all non-avenues, but might be slightly larger for avenues. So the only thing you really need to plan in advance is where you want avenues and where you want normal streets.

Unless I'm missing something, you can't explicitly do this (and in real life it would be illegal to do that so I'm glad they removed it from the game). You can affect land value though with different investments (for example, parks increase land value, factories decrease it). The land value map is helpful.

Wow, recycling centers are crucial. Just make sure you have your trade depot set up and you're getting all 3 of plastics, alloys, and metals.

I'm having a hell of a time getting medium wealth tourists. I built all these cheap shitty casinos and they are making insane amounts of money, but then I built this giant fancy casino and it's losing money at a ridiculous rate because no medium wealth tourists are coming to it.

I loved some Arco's back in SC2000. I still think, even though 3 & 4 had some big advances, that Simcity 2000 was the best version ever. I spent more time building cities and designing shit in the SCURK that it was one of the top games of my childhood.
