The prosecution succeeded in getting new evidence, Zimmermans school records, admitted into the trial. I think they are trying to refute Zimmermans earlier statements that he didn't know of the SYG law, by showing that he took criminology and criminal justice courses. I think that the prosecution is trying to make the case that Zimmerman Knew enough about the laws to contrive a story about that night of the murder.

Seemingly hypocritical if you look at it from the standpoint of " martins past wasn't allowed so Zimmerman shouldn't be allowed either". Perhaps it gains More relevance if you were attempting to show that Zimmerman was of a "wanna be cop" mind state that night, and knew enough about the law to know what story to give to the cops.
He was apparently a lousy student though.

I don't think knowing the law is what is at issue... I think what the prosecution is trying to show is that Zimmerman had knowledge of self defense laws when he claimed he did not. And that knowledge of not only what the law says, but also how it is practiced in the state of Florida, might enable one to contrive a story about murder in which they're on trial in their favor.

since i CC a lot, i make it a point to be relatively knowledgeable (in comparison to most citizens) of self-defense laws in my state. i just don't see why the state should be able to use that against me in court.

your ignorance of the law is not an excuse. your knowledge of the law will be used against you in court. damned either way.

do you not understand why, if you say under oath that you are not knowledgeable or aware of those things, that could be used against you?

they are not using his knowledge against him, they are using his statement that he was not aware while (allegedly) being aware due to courses against him, they are using his (alleged) perjery against him.

They admitted the evidence about Zimmerman's classes he took in an attempt to prove that he knows the laws regarding SYG and self defense

They are interviewing the teacher of one of his classes now who is talking about the course. He stated that they covered SYG cases and that Zimmerman was an A student.

Today has been boring. Despite all the push to have the teacher testify, I don't think it made much on an impact. They have spent the last 4 hours on some boring ass crap with DNA testing.

This back and forth with the Medical Examiner is killing me.

Defense Attorney: "What time did ___________?"
Examiner: "Let me read you from the report/my notes...."
Defense: "no, just answer the question please"
Examiner: "I can't... it's been a year since I did the autopsy, so... I don't remember"
Defense: "but you have your notes/the report...."

Personally, I think O'Mara is awesome. And I think he killed the acquittal argument. Doubt they'll get it, but the prosecution case is so so weak, even before the defense, that I think it will only get weaker after the defense and some of their expert witnesses.

And this was funny for the prosecution's response...

'And George said that he thought the defendent looked like he was on drugs'

WELL WHATTAYA KNOW?? HE FUCKING WAS! But it wasn't admitted.

^^^ what didn't make sense? Seemed pretty straightforward to me.

I don't see how in the hell the judge allowed the murder 2 charge to continue. I'll buy letting a jury decide the manslaughter (or other less offenses), but there isn't even arguably a case for murder 2.

More pointless testimony. Honestly, given the evidence presented how could anyone convict in this case?

Based on what I've read about the trial, it doesn't seem like they put anything meaningful up to question Zimmermans account of events. The witnesses accounts just seemed too jumbled and incoherent.

I wish they would have tried to match up Zimmermans account to the sounds in the recording because I don't think they really line up.

He's not European. European is the name we should have used for what we call "white" all along. The white/black distinction was a myth all along. Skin color used to be a direct result of latitude of wherever a tribe or group of people lived. Since then, however, they've moved. Given colonialism and then the industrial movement, there is a definitive step change where movement changed. Genetically, this makes the place of origin of one's ancestors before European expansionism the best gene-pool proxy available.

The man is still plenty white. Any individual who looks white has a claim to being white. Ancestral group latitude used to be a meaningful proxy for skin color, but it is no longer, because genes have combinatorial properties, as in, recessive versus and dominant. In other words, expression of genes is random-ish. Mexicans still have a gene pool with a greater propensity to darker skin than Europeans, although, this statement can only be made for the population, and not individuals.

In all officialdom, we allow Hispanics to self-identify as white while simultaneously being Hispanic... regardless of how wrong this is. Neither Hispanic nor white are definable things. If you're from South of the border on the American continent you should probably identify as a mix of native American and Spanish, although no such identification should be allowed for anyone who has not done thorough gemology or genetic testing. Without those, the concept is fallible. The only argument to consider a self-identified metric is that we should allow people race identity with no scientific basis because of feelings. Given that those feelings are the same that cause racial tensions in the first place, the argument should be held in the utmost concept.

http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2013/05/01/m-dspd-cover-up-the-curious-case-of-trayvon-martins-backpack-with-stolen-jewelry-and-burglary-tool/

Miami-Dade schools reduced juvenile delinquency by 60% in 2011 by cooking the books and paperwork shenanigans (shades of The Wire). This resulted in property stolen by Trayvon Martin not being returned to the owner, and the record of his burglary flying away in the wind...almost.

Roll your eyes at the source if you want, but the documentation on this is flawless. This is more a story of the school system than Trayvon, in my mind.

It makes way more sense for Zimmerman to be screaming "help" when he was the one getting beaten up. To scream help while you're pounding someone into the ground is ridiculous.

that's kinda a disingenuous statement. he had THC in his system (why not say that, instead of "drugs"?) THC isn't really known to cause people to be violent, and two, THC can stay in your system weeks after you take it.

THC doesn't show up in blood samples for much more than a few hours. If he had it in his blood, he was high at the time of the incident.

[Edited on July 8, 2013 at 6:56 PM. Reason : should have tested him for dextromethorphan. The effects are very similar to PCP.]
