Can someone explain what happened? The ruling on the field was Syracuse ball, and not enough evidence to overturn. But the play was blown dead because you can't run the ball after an onside kick? Is that right?

Thanks. I'll admit, I've never seen that happen. Very confused.

If caught or recovered by a player of the kicking team, the ball becomes dead. The ball belongs to the receiving team at the dead-ball spot, unless the kicking team is in legal possession when the ball is declared dead. In the latter case, the ball belongs to the kicking team."

I had no idea this was a confusing rule to people.

most onside kick recoveries end in a dog pile, so it's a rule that seems to rarely come into effect

Costner was here your Sophomore year? Dang.

What do yall know about Scooter Sherrill and Anthony Grundy?

Bowl this year, but this just means we need to increase expectations. A bowl with this crew mean at least 8 wins next year, I'd hope.

The same play happened in our favor one year. Terrance Holt recovered our onside kick and ran it in but it was blown dead where he touched it. That's when I learned the rule. I want to say it was the Thursday night Clemson game where we moved to 9-0.

^^ Nope. Clemson tried the onside kick, which Terrence Cotchery returned for a touchdown. The touchdown counted because it was essentially a kick-off return.

I remember the Cotchery play, I will admit I didn't know the kicking team could not run it back. Like someone said it usually ends up in a huge dog pile so I guess it doesn't come up much. Our offense is garbage, glad the defense stepped up big today.

One year when we played ECU in Charlotte, ECU tried an onside kick and we (maybe Tramain Hall???) took it back for a TD. I remember that

Oh hell yeah http://espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=243320151&period=4

"Kickoff returned by Tramain Hall (NCST) for a 44 yard touchdown."

Nah not a bowl game. We played them in Charlotte for some reason. Just like in the late 90s we played UNC in Charlotte a few times.

For a while we refused to play ECU at home after they trashed our field, thus we played them in Charlotte on a neutral field.

lol, I was at that game - couldn't stop laughing. For whatever reason, I was around a bunch of ECU fans and it pissed them off royally. I wasn't even talking shit the rest of the game, but that just put it over the top - it was already a god damn blowout ffs

Was that Syracuse play a "triple reverse-pass" or a "double reverse-fleaflicker"

Just randomly remembered it today and I'd never seen anything quite like it before.
