If I was a Panthers fan, I'd probably be bitching about the refs. But all of the controversial calls came on non-scoring plays. The way the broncos D dominated the game, you can't blame it on the refs. Carolina had their chances and they didn't show up. 2/7/2016 10:50:04 PM |

^^^True. But if Cotchery's catch would've been confirmed by the refs, Panthers wouldn't be in the field position for the sack/fumble/TD in the first place.

Thoughts as a Broncos fan:
-This was a defense vs. defense Super Bowl. For Denver, the defense was responsible for 15 of the 24 points. Steve Young's making a good point post-game on ESPN that the NFL has made the rules such an unfair fight in favor of the offense, that yet we still get to the Super Bowl and the best defense rules the day. -I was so nervous most of the game. Gano makes it 16-10 Denver and then all Denver did on offense in the 4th was run the ball 3 times and punt on 4th & 5. I knew why, to just run out the clock and not risk an incomplete pass to stop the clock, but was just thinking karma is going to screw us in the ass and Newton would take Carolina down to score and we'd lose 17-16, but Kubiak was able to stall them out like we did to New England in the AFC title game. -Don't think Denver wins this Super Bowl without the Super Bowl XLVIII loss to the Seahawks and it "teaching" Elway how to build the team around defense. -Denver's front 4 was able to get to Newton, not as well as vs. Brady in the AFC title game, but they set a record tonight for sacks in the Super Bowl. -And the commercials tonight did suck.

I thought one of the most egregious no-calls was when Ware tossed Cam around for 3-4 seconds after he had released it, and it was painfully obvious he had thrown the ball. If that's not unnecessary roughness, then I have no clue what is 2/7/2016 11:58:41 PM |

Also, Miller(?) should have been ejected for that facemask. You could see that he realized he had hold of the facemask and THEN jerked on it as hard as he could. That's a player safety issue, and a 2 yard penalty isn't sufficient for what he did. 2/8/2016 12:06:20 AM |

Easiest way I've found to get to the stadium (especially if you're coming from the East Bay) is to take BART to Fremont, then hop on a VTA bus: http://www.vta.org/superbowlsun
I don't know that it's the fastest way, but it was uncrowded both for a normal Niners game and for WrestleMania." |
I know that nobody cares and it probably would have been better if I missed the whole damned game but it took less than 50 minutes and a private car Had me at the stadium from SFO without issue. And Uber estimates were $50-60. There was literally no traffic.
Anyways, super bowl experience is kind of odd, don't think I'd do it again. So much different than any other live NFL game with all the extended commercial breaks, 50% of the stadium not being fans of either team, and all the celebs everywhere among other things.2/8/2016 1:44:25 AM |

The first challenge was such bullshit. A good team steps up to adversity but this team would have used that amazing catch as fuel for the fire moving forward. Instead we got an offense too afraid to throw and even more afraid to run.2/8/2016 4:01:41 AM |

Apparently not. Broncos defensive players saying we had nothing new in our gameplan for the SB. Said everything we did they had already seen on tape during the 2-weeks they had to study for us. Shula is an idiot if it turns out to be true, which based on how their D played last night I wouldn't doubt it.2/8/2016 12:14:21 PM |

^ Not sure if that's true, but based on what I saw from Shula and his play-calling last night, it wouldn't surprise me.
He should've had Cam running early and often, in addition to more dump-off routes on early downs, to keep those outside-edge rushers honest. Instead he just left Cam back there to be a sitting duck.
20-yard passes down the field don't work when 1 of 3 are incompletions and another 1 of 3 are break-ups, interceptions, or sacks.
Shula's play-calling played right into Denver's hands and cost us the game, IMHO.

I went to NCSU for the years we had the pleasure of having Cotchery on our team. I wanted the Panthers to win. That being said, people just need to drop the Cotchery catch challenge not being overturned. The ball clearly grazes the ground while Cotchery's control was still somewhat questionable. There has to be 100% irrefutable evidence to overturn a call from the field. The call on the field was not 'confirmed' in this case, it just 'stands'.
That being said, you could argue that the catch should have been ruled a completion in the first place and a certain amount ref bias affected that call. If the play was ruled complete and the Broncos challenged, I would fully expect that call to stand as well. 2/8/2016 2:25:50 PM |

this is what I was trying to allude too, but have we really been good at the short game at all this season anyway? it reminded me of those jay cutler/mike martz bear teams where he was just getting killed, still though I'm not sure it's all on shula, Cam could have been just holding the ball looking to do too much or are receivers getting totally dominated or just having all speed guys at that position2/8/2016 7:08:29 PM |

Wow the stats are out too opponent adjusted our defense did play as well as theirs did.
We just got slaughtered on special teams. Their offense was really bad, worse than ours. Lost the fumble recovery battle 5-2 which has shown to be statistically random over large samples (I'm not 100% sold it's random but it's obvious there's a ton of random noise in the data at the very least)
Can't believe we didn't trust our defense a little more but I guess a 500 point season got us a little overconfident in our offensive capabilities

On special teams, Gano missed the one FG, McManus made all 3 of his. That one bizarre punt return Denver had that was pretty much worth 3 points. And Colquitt's punting was huge for Denver. He had about as positive an influence on the result for Denver as a punter could. 2/9/2016 5:54:50 AM |

Yep not only did he boom a few, none were returnable taking away a huge opportunity for ginn given the volume of punts and the importance of field position in a game where it was tough to move the ball.
Nortman was ok, obviously can't pin that return on him and the punt he kicked into the end zone wasn't that bad because it was so deep and late in the first half 2/9/2016 7:39:13 AM |
