Probably wait a bit to see the reviews before I buy LBP. I want to like it, but a few recent games have been let downs (Spore anyone?).
10/6/2008 7:34:59 PM
Well. I dunno what to say, but i find creating things a little frustrating. Like there's no way to rotate the camera to get some perspective while creating 3d things. I spent forever trying to put wheels on the back side of a car only to realize that things in LBP don't need wheels on the back side.. there's no "physics" on that axis. Its a little cumbersome i guess. And i've worked with professional 3D CAD stuff before so this isnt overly complicated at all. I guess it takes more time to get up the LBP CAD learning curve and become productive. Where i'm at, its just a waste of time trying to make anything as i can't play for more than maybe 5-6 hours a week. Obviously its possible, there are some slick and creative levels out there already.Plus its kinda kiddy w/ all the stickers and shit. My gf played w/ me once and she was like, "wtf is the gay shit, dan?" baha I'M TRYING TO STICK A RAINBOW STICKER ON THE STAR, OK???The jump also feels really sluggish and unresponsive to me. Its quite annoying and is the primary reason i'd say i quit after an hour or so.
10/6/2008 7:49:41 PM
Yeah, that's definitely not the first time I've heard the complaint about floaty jumping physics. Probably the only consistent negative feedback on LPB.

Seriously Sony? 12:01AM you send me an LPB beta key? Mother fuckers, I got work tommorow.
10/7/2008 12:12:24 AM
The beta is pretty enjoyable. I think its pretty fun if you like making stuff and sharing. I'm not too sure how I feel about it. I think it will be a lot more fun when you're doing this stuff with friends and what not. Playing the levels can be pretty fun (more fun with friends I'm sure). Either way its definitely a fresh idea and something different. I might get it.
10/7/2008 10:13:27 AM
I agree, there is a pretty steep learning curve to the create mode. The first time I started on a level, I was spending sooo much time on the most minute details. But the great thing is, you can have several in progress at any time. So you can always just leave it and come back to fine tune later. I'm just amazed at how seemlessly you can switch between play and create, to test the levels out. The rewind feature is also a pretty cool way to implement undo. Also, it will be a HUGE help once people start putting up more levels. Creators can let you pick up their items within the level. For example, I played "Dino Land" which has a rideable triceratops at the end of the level. The creator of that level lets you pick this item up, and from then on you can just select it in your popit and presto! you've got yourself a rideable dino. So once people start laying the foundation for this game, you'll be able to have all kinds complex "machines" and objects with just a few clicks.I'm just amazed at the amount of customization on EVERYTHING in this game. Totally rad. I'm making an Indiana Jones level right now that will recreate some of the best scenes from all 3 movies (what, there's a fourth?)
10/7/2008 2:13:42 PM
I only played it for about 15 minutes this morning, but it had me smiling the whole time. I can't wait to get home and try it out some more.
10/7/2008 2:55:09 PM
If someone can do this in a week or two of beta play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiRgYBHoAoUI can't even imagine what kind of levels will be around in a couple months....
10/7/2008 8:48:19 PM
This shit is fucking incredible. People are going to be playing it forever. There really isn't much else to say.
10/7/2008 9:18:25 PM
^^how the fuck does that work?? amazing.Put it this way. i have no job and sit at home most of the day. i havent touched this in four days. i don't know why.Is there a way to sort the good online levels from the bad? Thatd be a huge improvement right there.
10/8/2008 1:25:10 AM
I will say that the concerns over the feel of the jumping is definitely warranted. They need to either fix that or just make it tweakable (likely) or dreams of recreating classic platformers like SMB3 will never be realized. It's just not precise enough.Other than that, everything is exactly like the previews would have led you to believe. That is, totally fucking awesome. I've mostly just been playing the premade levels and doing the tutorials. There is just so much fun to be had here, without even digging into create aspect. The user community is going to go bonkers with this game.
10/8/2008 10:03:44 AM
I think they're already picking up on the floaty controls complaints. There was an article yesterday where they announced they had the ability to tweak game mechanics, specifically the jumping, and could even add things like double-jumping and flips.Problem is, if they're gonna do it they need to do it NOW before everyone starts building levels around the current mechanic.
10/8/2008 11:27:56 AM
I don't get it. Shrike is obviously a cheerleader here but the rest of you guys are lukewarm. What gives?
10/8/2008 12:53:07 PM
um, it's a beta and there are like 3 people here that got a key?

I'm not that pessimistic really, I actually was on track to purchase the game.I meant that honestly...I really did think everyone was gonna go bonkers so I was a bit suprised to see some of you say you think or you may not buy it.
10/8/2008 5:20:32 PM
well, take my opinion w/ a grain of salt i guess. I'm not really a 'gamer' i guess. When i said i haven't played this game in 4-5 days.. well i havent played ANY game besides LBP in probably.. 10-14 days.
10/8/2008 7:03:31 PM
IGN just dropped a 6-page LPB review (9.5),http://ps3.ign.com/articles/919/919111p1.htmlThat was the first review from a north american media source, here are the rest, all from Europe.

New firmware update dropping today, has some really nice stuff.http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/10/13/firmware-updates-ps3-v250-psp-v500/The biggest thing though not even mentioned in that blog post? FLASH 9 SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=259999In my opinion, this is an even bigger deal than in-game XMB. Pandora, HULU, and all the streaming porn on the internet is now viewable on the PS3
10/14/2008 1:19:31 PM
finally Power Save features.
10/14/2008 3:01:29 PM
Hey guys, I am selling my PS3. I normally wouldn't bother listing it here, but it is a one-of-a-kind console and I know some of you guys are collectors. If you are interested in it, check out the auction link:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300266325206If you frequent any game sites or anything, please post the link. I really would rather someone that gives a damn get the console and I just don't get out to the sites like I used to.If you have any questions or anything, hit me up.
10/14/2008 4:29:47 PM
are you still trying to sell this? I dunno man, you might just have to settle on taking what a normal used ps3 plus an extra couple for some gold paint i guess.
10/14/2008 6:20:52 PM
actually never put it up for sale last time. things came up that prevented it. Just listed it today.
10/14/2008 6:38:14 PM
Is there a consensus on what settings provide the best 1080p display? I'm surprised that some Blu Ray movies just don't pop like I think they should. Some up converted DVDs looks surprisingly good though. Anyone care to share their thoughts on the best display settings?[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 11:16 AM. Reason : I can spell, yay]
10/15/2008 11:15:52 AM
what do you mean? HDMI connection right? most of the other picture settings are set based not console based. or do you mean something like:http://bulldogben.wordpress.com/2008/01/06/optimal-ps3-picture-settings-with-sony-kdl-40v3000-lcd-tv/
10/15/2008 11:23:19 AM
^ that should work.. I have my set calibrated by disc and it is spot on based off the HD content I watch... the PS3 has so many settings I just want to make sure I have it set up ideally. I do have the HDMI cable and most settings are similar to that link. I do question the Full vs. Limited - I see different opinions all over the place.
10/15/2008 11:59:28 AM
Full vs Limited depends on your TV. Best thing to do is turn on Full, then fire up a test pattern and see if it's passing Blacker Than Black signals. If it's not, go back to Limited and calibrate based on that setting. If it passes BTB signals, then you want to leave it on Full and calibrate based on that setting. When the FW updated that allowed this came out, I found out my TV was capable of displaying the Full signal and it made a HUGE diff. in picture quality IMO.
10/15/2008 12:09:49 PM
^Really? I always thought Full was a setting mostly for computer monitors. TVs generally don't display the full RGB range. What TV do you have?
10/15/2008 12:16:50 PM
with update 2.5, has anyone been able to get hulu to go full screen??? It's a bit choppy as well.Is there a way to get a better browser like firefox?
10/15/2008 2:12:33 PM
you can install Linux. That's about it.
10/15/2008 3:37:37 PM
you can use PlayOn for Hulu[Edited on October 15, 2008 at 6:15 PM. Reason : i thought there was supposed to be something about screencaps in this update]
10/15/2008 6:12:50 PM
whats the point in flash video if you can't make them full screen? its like they completely missed the point why people want to be able to play flash videos.

^^^^ I don't know if this is a solution to your problem or not, but you are aware that you can zoom in on the page within the browser, right? I watched a couple flash pages last night and zoomed 'em in until they filled the screen. Granted, the flash was in 4:3 and didn't quite "fill" my 16:9, but it's close.
10/16/2008 3:56:35 PM
