picked up a 91/30 for $99, looks pretty good just needs some refinishing on the stock. hex (technically octagonal) receiver dated 1924. lots of grease in the bore so not sure how good the rifling is but it doesn't look counterbored. 5/1/2010 1:16:19 PM |

Quick question, I am headed to the gunshow today to hopefully purchase my first pistol, GP-100. My pistol Purchase Permit is from Cumberland County where I lived when I reiceved the permit. I have since moved to Harnett County and no longer have an ID with my old cumberland county address on it. Since that is the address on my purchase permit and I can no longer prove that I lived there will I have problems trying to buy a pistol? 5/2/2010 12:45:11 PM |

I also picked up a hex receiver mosin for $99 today. I think it's a m91, but I'm not positive. The reciever is stamped 1929 and Izhevsk. So that makes it an m91, right?was

yeah pretty good price, the 1929 izhevsk would probably be a dragoon that was converted to a m91/30. check out http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRef01.htm it could be a m91 if it is longer than an 91/30 or dragoon 5/2/2010 3:52:07 PM |

to add to the "where can you" "well you can't here" debacle, you can shoot shotguns at PDHSC if you're in the club. What club you might ask? Well, it is a privileged club of the owners/employees and their guests. So in other words, none of us are in the club. 5/3/2010 5:21:54 PM |

I'm totally down for that, as are a couple other people I know on here. Problem with the few people I know who have land that could do something like that- they don't really want a bunch of people they don't know coming out to their land (or their families land)
if someone on here does have land though that would want to set this up, I'm totally game (would let anyone shoot any of my guns- not that I have many, but they are more than welcome to!) 5/3/2010 6:30:31 PM |

i asked my instructor where the best place was to put my gun (before i had my permit), especially since i drive a truck and don't have a trunk. he said the passenger seat was fine, as long as it was out in the open and the ammo was stored elsewhere (backseat for me). so you should be fine. 5/4/2010 1:04:37 PM |

i was curious about transporting it if i'm open carrying, i was planning on just ejecting the magazine and setting them on the passenger seat. from what i understand i shouldn't even need to do that, isn't loaded in plain view legal? 5/4/2010 1:28:38 PM |

what?!!?! you don't have to separate gun and ammo. open carry is legal. as long as it's in plain sight, it's legal. so dash or front seat are fine. 5/4/2010 1:38:30 PM |

Quote : | "Transporting Weapons Roy Cooper Attorney General Given this general prohibition of carrying concealed weapons, individuals must be ever vigilant to ensure that their particular situation cannot be construed as concealing a weapon either on or about them without being properly authorized to do so with a valid North Carolina concealed handgun permit. Therefore, the person's accessibility to the weapon is of prime importance. It is for these reasons, that when transporting a weapon in a vehicle, even greater care must be exercised to ensure that the weapon is not concealed and within the ready access to an occupant of the vehicle. North Carolina law does not specifically address how to transport a weapon in an automobile. Therefore, the central question becomes: when is the weapon concealed and readily accessible to an occupant of the automobile? Obviously, a weapon would be concealed and readily accessible, and therefore in violation of our law, if it were placed in such areas of a vehicle as, under the seat of the automobile; in a bag in the back seat; in an unlocked glove compartment; or in some other manner is covered or hidden within the easy reach of an occupant of the vehicle. A previous opinion from this office was that a weapon would not be concealed if it were placed in a locked glove compartment, unless the key to the glove compartment was in the lock and the person was in close proximity and had ready access to it. A concern with this mode of transportation however is that it is quite susceptible to different interpretations, based on the various factors involved. Therefore, this may not be the most legally defensible method of transporting a weapon, and is discouraged. While a weapon carried openly in an automobile would not be concealed, there are other problems attendant to this method of carrying a weapon. The principal drawback, of course, is in the event of a person being stopped by a law enforcement official, the officer may not readily know that person's purpose and intent for carrying a weapon. As such, it is imperative that a person immediately notify an officer of the presence of any weapon in the automobile, for the officer's and the vehicle's occupants' safety. Another obvious drawback is that a valuable weapon may be in plain view for potential thieves to see. The prohibition to carrying concealed weapons applies not only to handguns and other weapons commonly thought of as being easily hidden, but also to "long guns" as well. Therefore, shotguns and rifles concealed behind the seat of pickup trucks, and elsewhere in other vehicles, could similarly violate our law. As to those vehicles with no easily discernible trunk area, for example vans, the question turns on a factual determination of when the weapon is within ready and easy access to an occupant of the vehicle. If the weapon is concealed near, in close proximity to, or within the convenient control and access of an occupant, which would allow him to use the weapon quickly, then a fair probability exists that the occupant is in violation of the law. Therefore, care must be exercised by any occupant of a vehicle to ensure that the weapons are securely locked away in as remote an area as possible in relation to the passenger compartment of the vehicle. It is important to emphasize that these prohibitions apply to passengers, as well as the driver of a vehicle." |

There's tons of gameland up there, you're not allowed to target shoot on it....but that doesn't stop people. There's almost always certain spots that are setup for it. Your best bet is to just find someone with some land...and there is TONS of idle land just sitting around up there....and plenty of people who love shooting. 5/5/2010 2:49:16 PM |

I've been crunching the numbers. The guy was using a Schmidt and Bender police marksman scope, that'll run you out to about 2500 meters without a problem. However the shot was made around 2700, so taking into account that the scope has an elevation of 56 minutes of angle, plus he was more than likely shooting from a high angle (which changes the ballistics pattern drastically) he probably was looking at about 80 some feet of holdover, which would be like sinking a basket from 100 yards while aiming at the moon. That is a helluva shot. In fact that's far enough away, that you could take the shot, call the guy and say "Hey, you're dead" and then BLAM! And since he did it more than once that's like his buddy picking up the phone and saying "Ahmed is no more, how can I help you?" BLAM! Great shooting. 5/5/2010 11:03:03 PM |

Okay here's what I just came up with on the ballistics calculator:
A .338 Lapua with a 250gr Lock Base FMJ bullet:
At ~2400m (Flat line distance, perfect weather) you are looking at a 5 second flight time, and -3345 inches elevation.
With that scope, this shot would have been impossible to make on a flat range. Luckily the high angle gave him the edge. 5/5/2010 11:39:29 PM |

I just dropped by the Wal-Mart in Apex off of 55.
They had 24 of the $9.47 boxes of Federal 115gr FMJ 9mm, some of the orange RWS boxes for $12.xx, some WWB 9mm and even some Rem UMC 9mm. They also had plenty of .40 but I didn't see any .45 or .380. There were several boxes of the Federal .22LR 550 bulk-packs but still at $18.97 each.
Just a head's up.

Well -- it is the recent price increase that has me all . As little as a few weeks ago they were $15.97 so now they're 20% more. I wasn't keeping track of it a few years ago but apparently as recently as the early 2000s it was in the $9 range for the same box so it has doubled in price in just a few years.
Kinda hard to "buy it cheap and stack it deep" when it is $$.
