You photo above doesn't show up, just a red x. That could be part of the reason.

Yeah didn't mean to match the colors so well... We used one picture of us from campus and another of me in the red dress, so those aren't so matchy matchy (but still look good)

And thanks they're postcards

Kind of excited about this, but the shop on Etsy I bought my hair piece from had asked for me to send pics once I had my wedding, and she used one of them for that piece

Most Raleigh photographers will travel to OBX if you don't find one out there you like.

I ended up getting my wedding dress yesterday

Priscilla of Boston is shutting down all their stores and liquidating their stuff. There's a store in Cameron Village so we went yesterday and I found the perfect dress. It even fits me to a T. I just have to get the length taken up since it's like a foot too long and I might get the train cut out. My fiancé's mom asked me when we were heading to the store what I was looking for and pretty much described the dress I ended up getting. And what I ended up saving in purchasing the dress during their liquidation sale I can now splurge on these Jimmy Choo shoes I want

So check out Priscilla of Boston in CV. The girls there are SO nice and extremely helpful. I'm actually very sad to see they're shutting down. It's a beautiful store. Also, accessories are on sale too and they have tons of beautiful veils and hair pieces.

How expensive were the hair accessories, etc?

I haven't yet figured out what it is I feel like wearing on my head

Brides, be warned about PoB in CV...a friend of a friend bought her dress there, but due to the shutdown it will no longer be available. she has to find another dress entirely.

and I'm not entirely sure how it all works that she won't be able to get it anymore. again, friend of friend, so i didn't get the whole story. and i didn't want to ask too many questions cause she was pretty upset still.

^4 I would imagine they're not taking orders on dresses and only selling what's on the racks.

though I would assume that their samples are smallish

[Edited on October 16, 2011 at 2:40 PM. Reason : hence why I ask only about the hair stuff]

They're only selling samples now through October 31. They have normal business hours until then and then they don't know what is going to happen. They have tons of different styles and collections and you don't need an appointment to try stuff on.

Sizes ranged from 8-12. There might have been some other sizes but that's what I had saw from what I had pulled.

Most accessories were in the $100-200 range before the 50% off deduction but they have tons of different veils, hair pieces, jewelry, bags, etc.

LK - that sucks about your friend's friend. I know they're not taking anymore orders so basically what is in the store you can purchase but that's it. It sounds like the friend ordered right before they announced they were closing down shop

durrr...didn't even think about samples. this is one of the many reasons why i need more sleep!

from what i understood she had ordered it months before they announced the closing with the understanding it was "on its way", and there are no accommodations being made to have it shipped to another store or carrier of PoB gowns in NC. just really heartbreaking for her. i mean i remember when she got engaged (january) and when she found her dress (like march). ridiculous.

Oh damn that's nuts! It should have been almost done by now

I don't even know why their holding company is shutting them down. From what I gather PoB is a popular wedding gown designer, especially with all their collections ranging by style and price. From what I read online, the holding company also owns David's Bridal and they rather focus on expanding those stores.

It's a price thing. In the last couple years, brides have mostly spent a lot less on dresses (more in the David's Bridal price point, around $1000 rather than spending 3k+). So they think David's is worth the focus while Priscilla of Boston is not.

Mine was $900, and I thought that was crazy a lot to spend. But I fell in love with the dress and decided that was worth more to me than other parts of our budget. Overall, we had a very small budget ($5k), but I don't regret a dime I spent on my dress, it was perfect for me.

I look at the wedding dress shows and wonder how someone can spend $5k on a dress, but then again, I bet some people say that about my $900 dress!

This is how I was. Spent $500 on my dress and felt guilty at first, but I really loved my dress and didn't mind skipping other things in the budget in order to be able to afford it

Not sure if anybody here is using Sister's Catering for their wedding but it appears that they have gone out of business. Drove by their place yesterday and there is a "For Sale" sign outside.

Just thought I'd post it here in case somebody is using them.

My dress was only $350ish, but the alterations made it closer to $800. Being petite, I had to keep in mind about alterations when I set my dress budget.

Yeah thankfully my dress fits like a glove, and is tea length so I don't need any alterations. Mine wasn't super expensive to start with either, but I'm surprised I got it for that much considering it's an Alfred Angelo

my wedding dress was $275, from jcrew. fuck if i'm making my parents spend $texas or even $south carolina on a dress i'm going to wear once & never again. that's wasteful. i wore pearls that my mom & grandma had been buying for me since i was born (just a simple string). cheap pearl earrings from sundance & a fake pearl bracelet from belk maybe ($9). the only thing on my head was some japanese maple leaves cut from the trees we used as an altar type thing for the ceremony, and were glued to the side of head (i have very short hair). no shoes.

I'm going to splurge on some nice designer shoes because like seventythree said, it's just one day you're wearing the dress. I rather get a really great pair of shoes to wear with my dress that I can wear again and again

Plus my budget was like $3,000 originally.

grandma is giving me 500 to spend on a dress, and I am designing my own converses to wear under the dress. it'll be floor length so the shoes won't show, and my fiance is only 5'10", and I'm 5'9"

in other news, his mother informed me saturday that she didn't need us to have a date by the end of november...she needs it by the end of october.

we've all but decided on one anyways, just checking the venue on the 26th and if we both like it we will seal the deal.
