I ran Cyanogen and Kangerade on the Droid and while CM wasn't as fast, I wouldn't say it sucked. It also had a lot more little bells and whistles than Kangerade.

And for whoever was looking for Swype on the droid, http://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/27/download-swype-beta-2-4-44-10912-for-motorola-droid/

And damn, ordered the Realook screen protectors Friday afternoon and it's out for deliver now. Yay for free super fast shipping.

Yeah, read the instructions like I didn't. They're opposite the VZW protectors where you remove side 1, stick it down and then remove 2. These you remove side 1, then remove side 2 an stick down side 2.

I ruined one of my two that way.

Damn it.

Kangerade is the old 2.2 based on FRF57 (old)

JRummy's newest ROM is LithiumMod which is 2.2 based on FRG01B (latest Droid source)

I've been running LithiumMod Blue for the last 2 months and it's fantastic.

Got the Realook SP installed and it's barely noticeable especially compared to the anti-glare ones from verizon. Does show dust and lint more though.

I briefly considered returning the Fascinate but the specs are rather unimpressive: 800MHz processor and 3.8" screen (480x800). It will come with Froyo and probably the new Sense but meh.

i just watched a youtube video of a guy running that droot.bat (or whatever) file and it looked like he had to change to Charge Only mode or something, but still it took a few tries before it would work

i just quit after it gave that reset the adb message, so i guess if i had waited longer it might have gone through

I picked up a Samsung Fascinate for myself this weekend. Since it was BOGO, I got an Android X for the wife. Two android phones for $150 + tax. This is my first smartphone and I must say, I'm addicted and I love it to death... Battery life is pretty good, considering everything I do. Real Time GPS function is incredible, but it does a number to the battery... Apps are very plentiful and I'm waiting for 2.2 to leak for my phone...

welcome to the dark side. Fingers crossed that the Froyo goodness comes soon. Probably won't "officially" be available until November or later but I'm sure the rom developers will get something going much sooner.

how do you root the Droid 1 with the 2.2 update? i tried DMupdater, it doesn’t seem to work.

OR…

Is there a non-root way to get wifi tethering working on this phone?

If you're on FRG22D, you have to use rsdlite and flash another recovery. Try googling "root regardless of android version." Believe the thread is on droidforums.com.

I saw that, but it seems to require me installing the dev tools, and running Windows. I have the dev tools installed actually, i’m just not running Windows.

It’s weird that iOS is easier to jailbreak than Android...

ever since i upgraded to 2.2 last week my droid x has seemed much more laggy and unresponsive than with 2.1, which had also started to operate less fluidly than it did for the first few weeks that i owned it. i rooted it the other night and still haven't had much time to do a whole lot other than download a few apps and do some stuff with setCPU, so i don't know if this is typical and that running a custom rom will help, but the lag and general unresponsiveness of this thing has been pissing me off for a while now. any suggestions?

anyone else see the Verizon product placement on The Glades?

i was laughing so hard

the detective had a Droid. His girlfriend had what looked like an Eris or some other Android phone.

the kicker: a victim mailed a Droid with a sound recording to a tabloid journalist. they couldn't find the phone at the crime scene so the detective was like, look at the victim's cell phone bill - find out what kind of phone she has. the kid on the computer pulled it up and it said "Droid - 4G SIM" so he goes "sir she has one of those Android smartphones" and the detective, who is NOT TECH SAVVY at all responds back with "oh those are the kind you can track even when they're off right?" (that part kind of freaked me out...) and the kid on the computer goes "normally not, but this one has a 4 GIG SIM card (yes he said 4 GIG which made me roll over because 1) verizon doesn't have 4G and 2) we all know you can't have a 4 GB SIM) so we can track it"

hilarious...

Does anyone have any experience with Verizon's Certified Pre-owned phones? I'd like to know if it's a fine idea to get a CPO Incredible, or if it's worth it to shell out the extra $50 for a new one.

well, actually verizon does have 4G... it just hasn't fully rolled out yet (apparently vzw has allowed one of its small subsidiaries or something to test it out in vegas I believe)

VZW won't have 4g on cell phones until this time next year.

They are gonna roll it out on their PC cards first.

and apparently the moto droids (or maybe just DX,possibly D2) are on 4G platforms..

yeah, they're supposed to go live in 30 of the NFL markets before the end of the year but I'm pretty sure the LTE phones won't have a "4 GIG sim card". lol And none of the droids currently offered have LTE radios nor sim card support for an LTE sim card.

Haven't had a chance to test it in the sun as the sun has been hiding the past couple days but you can't even tell the screen protector is there in normal use.

Ha, my roommate got a DX today. I was checking it out and noticed they changed that sticker underneath the battery. Instead of saying PULL it says Battery Release. That would have been really useful for me when I first got mine.

Did get to play around with the Fascinate outside for a while today while waiting to get tickets and it's definitely a lot easier to see than the anti-glare screen protectors from Verizon granted it wasn't very sunny today.

That 800MHz processor is probably faster than the 1 GHz snapdragons in the Incredible/Nexus One/Evo etc. FWIW. I don't know how it compares to the Hummingbird processor (which are faster than the 65nm snapdragons) but don't look at the 800MHz and meh too much. It's probably the same/similar to the one in the G2.
