the entire situation was pathetic. you wanna hate the coach, fine, but don't throw your country's opportunity in the world cup under the bus because of a personal vendetta. the problem, in my opinion, is that everyone associated with that team was more concerned with themselves than with representing their country, and i think they'll all regret what happened later on.

Yeah, France was a complete failure but there seems to be a problem with international soccer in general because it's basically turning into a watered down version of club soccer now - trying to pick and choose the best country you happen to qualify for even if you don't give a fuck about that particular country, throwing a fit and pouting if somebody you want to be selected isn't, complaining about your fans when they complain about your lack of effort, etc. It's not really about representing your country anymore for a lot of players and that's just pathetic.

the spain/chile game is definitely going to be played harder than i thought it looks like - second game is going to be argentina/mexico which i'm hoping is as one sided as i think it'll be - after today's games i'll have a good idea of who we'll see for the QF but it still could be a bunch of teams

Glad Edu is finally starting (should have been starting from game 1), but gomez? bornstein? ugh...

I like dempsey out wide, but I think you have to find a way to get Torres in there. He played pretty well against Slovenia IMO. He is a liability defensively when you play him centrally, but if you have edu and bradley in, you could swing torres out wide and put dempsey up top.
