A few things:

the forest lady creeped me out and really seemed to have screwed with Rick's head.

The pig and boy getting sick seem to be related...They kept showing the water a lot so im thinking maybe something to do with that?

Carl is still annoying.

Michonne has grown to be my fav character with Darryl. Looks like she is going to Macon to find the Govnah.

Really liked that episode and i agree...that episode alone was better than season 3 in its entirety.

Pretty much agree with ^.

The pig being sick and the boy dying are almost definitely related.

excellent season premiere. intense action and some edge-of-the-seat scenes, especially in the "big spot" with the walkers raining down through the ceiling.

the biggest thing will be to see how this new virus will affect everyone; is it airborne or is it transmitted through animals or combination somehow? this will be a game-changer for sure. i expect to see people dying off rather quickly in the next couple of episodes too. gonna be brutal!

When Rick first found the dirty lady in the woods, the lady was about to eat a deer that was covered with files. Was this a deer for one of Rick's snares, or did it die from whatever new animal disease going around? If so, that would make 2 animal deaths shown last episode, with a third recent allusion to a deer that the boy with glasses ate. I have no idea what the connection is, but I am sure there will be an explanation soon. My only guess is that the animals are losing a healthy food and water supply, having to drink contaminated water and vegitation soiled by zombies. This might be contaminating the meat, causing the boy with classes to get sick.

Why was Carl upset at seeing Carol show the kids how to use knives. I feel like Carl would have been all for that.

Also, Beth is a stone cold cock tease. Kiss of death? She probably doesn't care her new bf died because she hated his frequently changing Australian/Neutral/Southern accent in ever scene he was in.

^^^Carl was upset because they spoke in the show that Carl had reverted back from the stone-cold killer kid to being more of a normal kid. I think they conditioned him back to normal and he probably took offense at them training the kids to be like what he use to be. Plus it sounded like they were going behind "the council"'s back by training the kids which he might have taken offense to.

A boar too? wtf...what show are yall watching.

The DEER was still alive and breathing (sounds, grunts, etc)

they showed another DEER that had been attacked and had the flies on it but that was not the one she wanted to take to camp. Do you not remember her saying "he needs something alive" after she tried to stab Rick?

Some of you, I swear.

I got the impression the woman was also surviving on zombie flesh...

And i too thought it was a boar when he stumbled upon her.

I can't remember, but they said Carl was upset because Rick didn't want them teaching kids that stuff, but the council DID, and they were purposefully trying to keep carl away by telling him it was for "kids" to reverse-psych him into not going, so he wouldn't tell Rick.

But i think the community and council DID want the kids taught that stuff.

"maybe"... lol

she also said he (rick) should have just let her take the boar. Are we sure that both the boar and deer (or whatever it was--probably another boar) were not snared and not diseased? He was in the woods to check his snares and he was about to go for the boar before she showed up.

There was some dude in the classroom, a guard I guess. Carol waited for him to leave before she brought out the knives. Why didn't she want him to know?

How the fuck is everyone confusing the whole "deer/boar" thing? That was pretty obvious.

The "new" virus or whatever that caused this kid to die will be interesting. I've always wondered about what happens to animals when they die in zombie land. I would think they would go straight zombie...but I guess you could cut off their heads immediately to prevent that (since it's the brain that controls all bodily functions post-death??). But not seeing any zombie dogs or animals these first three seasons, I was thinking that whole situation might be avoided. The dying pig has re-opened that discussion.

And the "zombies grouping together" is interesting as well. To combat that, the "killing zombies at the fence team" should just spread out along the fence....durrr.

I'm pretty sure whatever the magical zombie virus is that everyone is infected with only applies to humans. There hasnt been any discussion or hint that animals are subject to "turning" like humans are. If that was an issue the Walking Dead world would be inundated with zombie animals at this point, they would be everywhere

This new virus is most likely, as mentioned previously in this thread, the result of water/food that has become contaminated. I dont know if the kid who got sick and turned in the shower was showing signs of a new strain of the zombie virus, or if he just died from water contamination and turned as a result of the normal zombie virus mechanism

lots of diseases can't pass between humans and animals, or even animals of different species

i was wondering why they don't just douse them with gasoline and toss a match (like in Day of the Dead)

While I agree...there are "zombie animals" in lots of other zombie movies/tv shows. Didn't World War Z (the book) have zombie dogs? I honestly can't remember.

Eh...I feel like that could weaken the fence as well. I feel like their method makes sense in that it also gives a good number of their campers "something to do."

I assume it's a new strain of the zombie virus because of the new eyeball peeling thing. At the beginning of the episode Rick stared for awhile at a fence zombie that had some funky eyeballs, then he stared at it again later, and I thought the kid who died in the shower showed the same type of eye deformation. I just assumed this will be the differentiation between "normal" zombies and "new" zombies.

I'm pretty sure WWZ (book) didn't have zombie dogs. It did have a team of military dogs that acted as zombie baiters.

It was mentioned farther up the page as a possible example of the zombie virus being communicable among species, like Resident Evil and its zombie dobermans

Is it possible that glasses kid just got regular sick from the flu or something and just passed out, smashed his head/died on the concrete shower floor and just regularly reanimated?

Just leaving the zombie bodies at the fence would make a pretty good wall as they'd eventually just build up but aside from the smell would there be any downsides?

I thought about that...but he looked to be a bit more sick than the average flu. I also just think its a twist the show is ready to give to us.

^^I could be wrong, but when the glasses-kid was walking and coughing on his way to the showers, it looked like he was leaving a trail of bloody foot-prints. Those could have been just water prints because he was sweating, but remember when I was watching the episode thinking, "is that blood?"

It is entirely possible that the writers revert to their old selves and make the kid have had contact with a Zombie, get scratched and not tell anyone...then die and become a Zombie.

I did wonder about the bloody eyes zombie and why Rick kept looking at him time and time again.

In their defense when they were loading up for the scavenging trip, Darryl shook the gas can as though there wasn't much in it.

I don't know that anyone necessarily wants them to address the minutiae of survival, but things like water, gas, food, bullets, etc. do need to be replenished. Seeing them actually concerned would help with that sense of urgency.

I, too, thought it odd that in the middle of a zombie apocalypse Darryl would opt for a chopper with extended bars. It doesn't seem practical or safe if you need to corner or evade.

Hell, just seeing them run out of something would be compelling. The only tension in this show is "zombies attack", "crazy person attack", but there's a lot of compelling storytelling to be had in the more mundane aspects of survival in a post-civilization world.

That is, if you had the actors/writers for it. So maybe I just answered my own gripe.

Yeah the chopper thing is pretty stupid, especially since Darryl is such a good survivor. I don't know much about choppers but they can't be that fuel efficient. And they are super loud. And he would obviously be very exposed on one. And if GTA is anything like real life if you hit anything on one of them you go flying.

I'd think a dirt bike or sports bike would be more appropriate -- way better fuel efficiency and at least with the dirt bike more off road capability. But obviously doesn't look as cool. Except for that whole "SS" symbol on it.

Watching a couple of the old episodes on Netflix and I think that the bike belonged to Merle before they left him in season 1. They briefly hit on it when they get stuck in the traffic jam on the highway before going to the farm. I suppose sentimental value overrides gas / quietness concerns.

I was wondering why the forest lady wanted to find live bait for her zombie husband when it was just a head. What he ate would then just fall out the bottom of the head.

Dead animal in woods= boar
Both= swine

Obviously zombie disease is the work of Islamic extremists LOL

Also Daryl rides a hog

C'mon its pretty maneuverable, more so than a Hyundai. Sure there are better choices of vehicle, but Odds are if you get careless with any vehicle and get stuck, you dead anyhow. Yes it's loud, means its a good way to create a diversion. Like when the herd came to the farm. More fuel efficient than you might think. It's seating position is easier to fight from. He probably should have let that prisoner tune it up last season though might be awhile before he runs across another person who has the skills to.
