Werner isn't goofy looking

And I'm 10000000000% sure that people calling him goofy on the internet had nothing to do with him de-committing.

Mr. Grace, i was just saying that costner wasnt good enogh for the ewing theory to apply. that was a light hearted comment. if you'd read ANYTHING else i wrote you'd see that im disappointed that he's leaving and think we will be a worse team because of it. read!

I can't believe Trevor's not coming back. I'm not upset because this opens up a scholly for Sid to go grab a solid recruit. But I totally didn't see this coming.

Good luck Fergie!

this is what i have heard too that he is trying to graduate not that he IS graduating. remember this kid and Farnold had academic problems just this season.

i've heard that another current player might not be returning to the team either but this is just speculation.

Thought #1. Well, considering state's history, we need more "goofy looking white kids" (Burrleson, Towe to name a few).

Thought #2. Duke beats us every year...if we have to load up with "goofy looking white kids" to compete, then so be it.....

Thought #3. I cannot think of a single reason why you would post a negative comment about a player we would recruit prior to him signing with a school. You were trying to be funny and attack Duke, but you personally attacked a possible wolfpack player. Please keep that on the DL, until he commits somewhere.

LOL. You people are hilarious.

He's no star but his average of 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2.5 assists the last two years would have been incredibly nice to throw on our team.

are you trying to say he doesn't deserve the scholly? He averaged 25 points his senior year and was a good rebounder. At this point i'm really just kind of excited to have a guy who said its been his dream since seeing his first state game to play here. He sounds like a high energy athlete who can rebound and defend....cool with me.

Certainly not an impact signing, but more depth doesn't hurt in this league...

well you never know what'll happen when guys get into college. There were a lot of 2* combo guards running around owning the ACC this year so who knows with Josh. He has put up numbers in HS, though those can always be tricky. I just figured there would be a lot of people questioning this commitment, especially since it kind of came out of nowhere

I agree that's its nice to see a guy who's always wanted to play for State coming here

Well, obviously his offer list doesn't scream ACC-elite all over it, but I see no point shitting on a kid who wants to run with our team...

I'm not shitting on him, I'm just trying to point out that a commitment from a 2 star player at a position we don't particularly need more depth at is not closing the talent gap between us and most of the ACC.

I don't think anyone is shitting on the kid, just the decision to use a scholarship on him. Although I think that says more about the state of our program than anything else.

Nah, I think he can contribute...just not sure what the overall reaction would be. The staff has been keeping an eye on him for a while, and I guess with the confirmation that both Costner and Ferg were out, felt the spot opened up for him. He's a SF/PF tweener that can defend a bunch of different types of players. I think that's a spot we didn't really have filled on the roster and he can help there. Though I think it eliminates any talk of Spurlock

Lol. A 6'4"-5" center in the ACC. That's rich.

Best comparison I can see is Paul Harris with less range and less handle. Definite project. Hope he can provide at least some quality minutes over his time here. Seems to be a kid with a good attitude who loves State...

i assume this means we won't be taking a point guard (wall) this class since we need a big man to finish the class up. i was actually hoping early today that we'd get another guy to fill the 3 spot so hopefully this guy can ball.

^^^^ there's some early speculation he might play the 4 in a small line-up but he's not an undersized post guy (ie a shorter tracy smith). He's not a guy who'll knock down 3s but his range is more than 8 feet

[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 4:52 PM. Reason : also he's said to be 6'6 200 now. So probably 6'5 and a couple tenths]

Costner, Ferguson depart basketball program

NC State men's basketball coach Sidney Lowe has announced that redshirt juniors Brandon Costner and Trevor Ferguson will forego their final year of eligibility, and not return to the Wolfpack in 2009-10. Costner will earn a degree in communications in May, while Ferguson plans to earn a degree in science, technology and society in the summer.

"Brandon has enjoyed a great career at NC State, and now is going to prepare himself to go through the NBA Draft process," said Lowe. "Trevor feels like it was his time to move on, and we will continue to help him in his pursuit of his degree."

After sitting out most of the 2005-06 season with a stress fracture, Costner has been a constant in the Pack lineup for the last three seasons. He played in 110 career games with 84 starts averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds during his career. This season, he became the 41st player in school history to score 1,000 career points, and ended his career with 1,273 (27th most in NCSU history). In 2008-09, Costner led the Pack in scoring (13.6) and was second in both rebounding (6.1) and in assists (71).

Costner was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and was also a third-team All-ACC selection as a redshirt freshman in 2006-07. He was just the seventh freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both scoring (16.8) and rebounding (7.3) his rookie season.

"I really want to thank the coaches, the fans and everybody at NC State for the time I have spent here," said Costner. "So many people have helped me while I was a member of the Wolfpack, I just feel like it is time to move on and pursue my dreams of playing professionally."

Ferguson transferred to NC State after signing a letter of intent with Pittsburgh, and sat out the 2005-06 season. He played in 52 career games, with his eight starts all coming this past season. For his career, Ferguson averaged 3.7 points in 15.5 minutes of action, hitting 37.4 percent (43-115) of his career three-point attempts.

"I enjoyed my time here at NC State, and am proud to have been a member of the Wolfpack family," said Ferguson. "Playing in the ACC was something I enjoyed, and now I look forward to moving on in my life."

yeah, we're going to suck. no slam on this guy but good grief people, there is no silver lining here.

all the people(not talking about anyone specifically) that condemned going after the top tier/one and done talent and wanted to settle for "4 year players" are now getting their wish. Now we will probably have two schollys in this class wrapped up in two guys that will ride the bench for 4 years. grats!

A PackPride poster (who is a Heels fan) had this to say about Josh Davis:

Quote :
"I've watched him play the last four years, and this is what I can tell you about him:

He's definitely a late bloomer via late growth spurt. He went from 5'10" sophomore year to 6'4" junior year, and played his senior year around 6'6", and is still growing. This past weekend he participated in the NC/SC All-Star game with the likes of Earnest Ross, Garrius Adams, etc. and took home MVP honors. Also, right after the game Seton Hall and UNCW had already extended an offer. About his game: The problem with him is that he has a wing man's body but a forwards game. He has the potential to play on the perimeter but he has made his living in the pain the last two years. He is a high caliber ACC rebounder right now, really gets after loose balls and has great instincts, and he has the same mentality with shot blocking which he also excels in. He can handle the ball really well for a big man, probably due to the growth spur effect. He can drive and finish with ease, and has shown that he is extremely athletic around the rim. Basically, he knows how to get the ball in the basket, as shown by being top 3 in the state in points. His big weakness right now is his jumpshot. He turned from deep threat to shaky shooter during said growth spurt, however his ineffective shot can most likely be attributed to poor coaching in that he tried to fix it himself. He has shown that he can consistently hit about a 15 footer with relative ease, however. Defensively, he is a deceptively good defender. Watching him guard players such as Ross and Adams really reminded me of watching Hansbrough guard the perimeter, in that he looks to be off balance and easily broken down, yet still effectively shuts his man down most of the time. He is a tireless worker and constantly hones his game. Overall, he is an under the radar kid most likely due to being a late bloomer, but he could develop into a solid ACC talent.
"

Gotta love the rebounding/work ethic he brings. Also he was top-3 in the state in scoring. That's pretty impressive.
