I too, work at a DC and have seen several teams get cut or eliminated due to better automation. These are people with math, csc, ee degrees. We used to have a reporting team - they were cut completely.

^I don't get how it's not already automated. All you need is to be able to walk in and view a place. Browse a website for what your tastes are and go on a guided tour via your phone.

I'd love that for apartments. The broker fee shit is one of the most infuriating things I encountered when moving up here.

I work at a software company that provides services to management companies and brokerages. But I have worked as a real estate agent in the past. Showing apartments is about 10% of the job and automating it would not remove the broker fee.

Also this is just for rentals. Sales is a different animal and automation is not happening.

^^They aren't abandoning this yet. They were trying to get a vote sooner than later because with more time it becomes harder, especially with the Russian thing going on.

But they'll absolutely continue trying. This won't be dead until the Democrats have a majority in both houses and a Democratic president again.

^^ I don't see it coming back up for probably 6 months at least. The current crop of GOP elected officials have to be some of the dumbest legislators to be running the country.

If they're smart they'd try to pick some of the low hanging fruit to fix in ACA to regain some credibility

Healthcare reform is dead for awhile. The opposing Republican factions that killed ACHA didn't just appear and they're not going away before 2018. The GOP's eight-year policy of 'all-obstruction-all-the-time' was more default (in)action than considered strategy.

Ryan has an impossible task managing the House. Debt-ceiling and budget votes are coming up and Trump will be worse than useless in getting those done.

I don't think that will work. Voters are gullible but they know the GOP was bluffing for 7 years on repealing ACA and when it came time to put up or shut up they floundered. It just looks bad to blame democrats now id bet.

It's sort of been a thing on the religious right forever to think that a persons health and illnesses are related to morality, no? I mean it's despicable and cold but it's not new.

I think it's reasonable to make adults who don't take care of their bodies pay more for their health insurance costs, with emphasis on adults. It shouldn't apply to children or those that are dependents under their parents plan.

House GOP is taking the plunge. Gonna pass the bill without a CBO score. They better hope the Senate fixes it or trashes it or 2018 is up for grabs...

A bill that could affect a 1/5 of the economy and

-no CBO score
-virtually no floor debate or public hearings
-no final text of the bill has been released
-went through multiply iterations on pre-existing conditions clauses and exempting congress from the law, many of us still have no idea what exactly the status on these two points are.

Yet somehow it's more important to check this legislative accomplish off their list than govern in a meaningful way.

Even if I'm a filthy rich person that stands to benefit from the tax cuts this bill allegedly sets up, I'm still asking myself, is cratering the healthcare industry and those ripple effects throughout the economy really gonna be worth it?

I think that's the main driver too. Some may want to claim they legitimately repealed and replaced over the summer breaks too. But this is not what governing looks like, SMH.

you won't die, but your insurance premiums will skyrocket when you get placed in a high risk pool because the state got a waiver and you can't afford your health insurance so yeah actually you will die

The states most affected are mostly Trump states. Though I'm guessing he is Teflon on this like everything else and everyone in those states will blame Paul Ryan (who will continue to easily won re-election every cycle in his district).

It will cost the GOP house seats but I have no confidence it will be en masse due to the general incompetence of Dems ability to message.

It could potentially occur shortly after noon Eastern Time, if the House leadership feels that they definitely have enough votes at that time.

It really is just about the win. Curious what Trump/Ryan promised the at-risk R's. Must've been big.

Once the CBO scores hit next week there will be no place to hide. And this charade at the WH makes it even worse for them.

I really would like to see some specifics. Because it SEEMS from an earlier WSJ article that employer sponsored plans could choose to opt out of pre-existing conditions and catastrophic coverage if any one state did (which is a near certainty). One of the things mentioned, but admittedly not explicitly in the article, was the NICU... which is a very personal thing to me.

Under Obamacare, what would happen in a place like Iowa if all of the insurers pull out of the marketplace? Asking for a friend.

^^x? (I don't feel like looking to see how much up)

I heard it explained like this, admittedly by a dem so if anyone has evidence to either back this up or refute please do so:

- The bar for a state obtaining a waiver to deny pre-existing condition coverage is not high
- One of the big "positives" of this bill is that it allows insurance companies to sell across state lines
- Nothing stopping any/all the insurance companies from moving their "headquarters" to the first state that gets a waiver and then selling insurance only from that state, with the ability to deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, regardless of where they live

its not denying coverage, you just get put into a high risk pool and your coverage is based on the condition (i.e. it will be very expensive) if you have a gap in coverage or anything

OK, I would argue that denying coverage and having no limit on what they can charge you is almost the same thing. If they know you have cancer and it's going to cost them a shit ton to pay your medical costs, you're not getting a price you can afford
