Yeah that's kind of how I've been. I watch calories and try to get protein but I seem to be losing fat and gaining muscle and getting stronger at the gym and running so I'm happy. Last night I managed to get about 800 calories from beer and still get my 500 deficiency for the day.

soooo i'm going kettlebell mountain biking this weekend. This involves carrying kettlebells while mountain biking and taking breaks from biking to do kettlebell workouts. This sounds fun.

That sounds like a weird mashup of exercise to me. Like ice skate-boxing, or volleyball horseback riding.

^^ It's ok to take a break every now and then to let your body recuperate. If you go too hard for too long you can damage yourself and your gains won't be as dramatic. Just because you temporarily stop working out or working out as hard doesn't mean that you are immediately going to blow up like a blimp. You'll be surprised at how fast you can gain back anything you lose after taking a break and how fast you will be back where you left off when you decided to take a break.

omg first post in here
^^^Z was SUPPOSED to forward you an email I sent him. It was a groupon or somesuch deal: $25 for a month's worth of bootcamp classes. I'm sorry if he did not do this.

I just posted this in another thread:
Quote :
"At some point, in some thread around here, someone posted a chart/list that shows what bodies look like @ varied BMIs and % body fats, for both men and women. This ring a bell to anyone? I've tried multiple times to google it, and never found what I was looking for."

Anyone able to help out?
--
I never have posted in here because I'm shamefully out of shape AND undisciplined; ergo, I have no business posting in here. At least, I used to not. I still have lots of room to go, but I have to thank the participants of this thread: I've read some good information, learned a lot either directly from this thread or from things I used as a starting point for research, and more than kinda participated waaaaay off to the side. I could have just settled for losing the 40lbs I have, and not given a damn about CV health and performance, or building and maintaining muscle mass...but I did and this was a fantastic parallel to the other things helping me care about these issues.

I still don't know if I should even post that last paragraph, but fuck it. I just lih.

^well that makes sense right? Fat is more dense than muscle? That's why BMI isn't a good measure. To be accurate you need to measure your actual body fat percentage. Muscle weighs a lot more per volume than fat. Why people should be more concerned with body composition than body weight. I stopped caring so much about my weight because if you gain lean muscle and lose fat that net loss number doesn't have as much value as your actual composition percentages.

No, everyone has the exact same bone density, muscle and fat percentages. BMI is a flawless indicator of physical condition.

So im doing a weight loss competition in my apartment however there is a problem.

its 2 guys vs. 2 girls.

how can we compute stuff to see who wins? should we do it by % lost or is there a formula that includes body fat percentage?

i found these online and thought they were interesting

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT NECESSARILY BELIEVE THESE ARE COMPLETELY ACCURATE. I JUST FOUND THEM AND THOUGH THEY WERE INTERESTING AND MAY LOOK INTO IT MORE!!

(the only reason i put it into all caps iis because i've noticed that lately people have been jumping to conclusions really quickly )

anyway according to this website/blog/whatever where you put on weight the easiest may be determined by hormones:

heres the post:

Those models must have been designed by a man; the dude doesn't have genitalia, or even nipples, and yet the woman has a belly button and even has a camel toe.

Joie, part of the map for women is actually true.

When I went to be evaluated for my insulin problems the doctor informed me that's one reason I could gain weight in my stomach/love handle area predominantly, because of the high excess of insulin being secreted from my pancreas and thus storing itself in the fat cells around itself.

It also makes sense for the triceps because that is one of the first places I also notice fat cells going to (besides my belly)...

I feel like the fat that I've lost almost 4 inches in my waist and at least a few in my arms without any large body measurement changes elsewhere go along with that theory, too

Although I am not strutting my half-nude body in this one, here's me after my half-marathon on Sunday. Will probably do some other shots later but I can tell I am making some progress even without them.

Amen to that. The scale is a nice measuring tool to help us keep in check, but your pants are the best measuring tool. Unless you only wear spandex.

So, today I'm starting the South Beach Diet. Due to a new gig with a startup gym, my biz partner wants me to get ripped. Goodbye, chocolate.

why do douchebags just sit on the machines when there are no other ones available and they're not actually DOING anything? are they just too weak to move after their grueling workout? afraid someone will take the machine while they're taking a 15-minute break...jeebus, it gets on my nerves

This. We were at the gym Monday night and people were just having parties on their machines. Sitting there and watching the TV's and not working out at all.. I was like... Really?

you're right, i think it's more of a mental thing than a physical thing. like, i get discouraged that i haven't been able to work out because of reasons out of my control - then it just discourages me from getting back going again

i have a question for ya'll.

why are protein powders included in clean diets?
the ingredients are anything but "clean".

Most gimmicky "diets" make it hard to ingest enough protein, especially if you are working out regularly.

so it's not a clean food.
its an exception.

its just kinda funny for people to hard knock over processed terrible food in the name of clean eating and still drink like 2 shakes a day....

What exactly is a "clean diet"?

Protein shakes are, by nature, processed. But what is so terrible about them? The fact that they aren't all-natural? Maybe I just haven't heard the 'clean diet' moniker before and don't know the theories behind it.

yea im curious as to what the "clean" means..

I looked at my whey protein and the only thing that doesnt look "clean" is the artificial flavors but thats to make it not taste like complete ass.

Maybe protein shakes without artificial flavors?

everything else looks legit though

if you're worried about clean, how about a protein shake with eqq whites and fruit

I use protein Post Workout Only...is it necessary? Def. not, but I think it has benefits when it comes to recovery. If that's the worst thing you're eating, I wouldn't worry too much

ON Whey tastes fine

My mom just got a protein shake mix from the Home Economist in Charlotte. 22 grams of protein per serving and like 110 calories. 100% vegan. From like pea protein and stuff. Tastes like ass. Still technically processed I guess because it's blended veggies.
