He's doing what he is "asked" to do, act as an attack dog for UNC to slime Willingham/Jay Smith, thus saving UNC from having to do it themselves. He has also united the UNC fanbase online who thoughtlessly RT and favorite his blog posts/tweets and spout vitriol towards Kane/Smith/Willingham/Ganim/McCants etc defending UNC and complaining about unfair media coverage(loL). Bethel was in a twitter bitchfest with some Ohio Prof the other day. Thoroughly entertaining. Poor Bradley lost his shit, started name calling. Called him "imbecile". lulzz

I really don't care about them retroactively removing championships. That really doesn't mean anything to me

I'd be happy with serious probabation, bans from post-season play, serious hits to their scholarships, and serious hits to their reputation... leading to serious hits to their recruiting and performance. So they'll suck for the next several years/decade.

It really is amazing. UNC admitted that at least a set of classes were completely bogus... meaning:

(a lecture course in which the faculty member listed as instructor of record denied teaching the course section and signing the grade roll, or one in which the chair stated the course section had not been taught.)

So basically a phantom class. I do not see how any interpretation of athletes in such classes could be deemed valid. If a kid was in these classes, then their GPA needs to be recalculated. There were 304 students in these classes from 1997-2009(not sure if this is actually individual students or the total number of enrollments). Of the 304:

88 were football players: 29%
21 were basketball players: 7%
15 were baseball: 5%
12 Womens BBall: 4%
4 Mens Golf: 1%
...
Total number of athletes: 173, or 57% of enrollees in bogus classes.

Note that we do not know if the other 43% may have been team managers, former athletes, athlete friends/SOs.

This is what UNC has admitted. Their fans can't even admit it though.
=============

The point of the above is that it is impossible that the Cherry fellow from the blogpost was in a true 'bogus' class. By his own admission some kids made Fs and work was actually assigned/graded. He has no useful insight into this matter unless we are being asked to simply focus on 'easy' classes that only had a term paper. F that, I want whats fair... dig up all the athletes that were stuck into these true no-show classes, recalc their GPAs, and forfeit anything that had eligibility issues.

Everyone else has to play by the rules.

^^ Honestly, I don't get a boner dreaming about banners coming down. I would like the truth to come out though and the sole reason I love college sports is the connection I have with the school. I am pulling for MY school's team, which is comprised of people that went through the same stuff that I did. We get to remember our college experiences every time we watch/attend a game and know that fellow alums are out there feeling the same emotions. Hell, nobody really understands NC State fans/alums like an actual fan/alum.

We have had our share of heartbreaking losses on bad calls, tough breaks and other nonsense. But this UNC mess is the real turd in the punchbowl. Now we know that the star players on those mystical and worshipped championship teams actually have as deep of a connection to UNC as the subset of their fans that have never been to Chapel Hill, but own plenty of baby blue shirts and hats.

The way to seriously hit their reputation? Take the 05 and 09 banners down. Want the holier than thou rhetoric they've spewed for 50 years to end? Take the banners down. I'm not sure how young or old some on here are, but UNC went through a bad 2 year stretch where they didn't make the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2003 with 2002 being the notorious 8-20 campaign. That was an effective 2 year post season ban and reduced scholarships (because the guys they had were flat awful in 2002 and may as well have been on the bench at a mid major). Guess what, UNC went from 8-20 to national championship within the same graduating class in 2005. Not wanting the banners to come down is extremely naïve in that you can think there is any other way to get to the root of the problem. The entire evasion tactics the UNC administration has used the last 4 years is to preserve the hoops banners. If anyone thinks not letting UNC go to the NCAA tournament for 2-3 years in any way shape or form fixes this problem permanently, you need to think again.

UNC is not going to suck for a decade at all in our lifetimes in college basketball. Now, if the NCAA wants to put them on a postseason ban for 10 years then maybe, but that's not happening. 2 year ban seems to be reasonable for any other school, and maybe even 3 worst case. But to put it out there that UNC basketball would be bad for 10 years?? That not a reasonable thing to say. At this point I see no evidence that the NCAA is going to give them even a one year post season ban.

There are monster bonuses and money dished to the schools that make it to the later rounds of the NCAA tourney right? If they had to vacate banners for cheating, would the school be forced to return that money to the NCAA? I'm sure the coaches and individuals would keep their money but surely the school should have to pay the penalty and cough up a huge lump sum.

Usually when a school is punished by the NCAA there is a fine to pay. Although, to my knowledge, it's not comparable to what they made while cheating or anything along those lines. iirc, UNC was fined like 50K.

Man. Surprised he didn't go with wusspack or moou. He could've cut much deeper than he did. Hope UNC shows the same restraint against us this year when we go into the hostile Kenan Stadium.

Seriously, I mean, that letter is kinda lame from the perspective of a rival. But I'm sure UNC fans will eat that up. Even if it is politely calling them out for being shitty fans in the past.

And a big LOL at this one:

Quote :

Nah. They'll win 7 or 8 games again. But they'll be close enough in a few of those games to make their fans think they were this close to winning the division or whatever.

Generally in a news environment, Left channel audio is for lav mics and Right channel audio is for NATS (ambient sound). In many cases, they just don't take the time to edit these things before dumping them online. The raw video is done this way to provide more post processing ability. It is mixed down before airing on TV.

^^^Thanks for the info. I had no idea. I do a lot of recorded audio work with both fixed wired microphones as well as wireless lavalier/handheld microphones, but 99% of our stuff is live presentation with additional video capturing for later use. Did not know that was how they handle that for news. I just assumed some asshole hadn't plugged in the right channel.

this was a comment on Reddit in response to UNC being the most hated team in college basketball in the state of North Carolina.

Quote :
"UNC is extremely widely loved in North Carolina! Every living person in this state knows who Dean Smith was. I said yesterday and still believe that North Carolinians are born UNC fans by default, it takes some outside influence to change them into other sorts of fans.

Someplace like this, though, where everyone has a sworn allegiance and actually cares about basketball, yeah, UNC has gathered a lot of rivals, Duke, Wake Forest, and State. ECU hates State, but I don't think State even knows. But, like, at Wilmington and Asheville and App, you're more likely to find UNC fans than anything else.

I'm guessing that person isn't really a hardcore sports fan if they think everybody in NC is born UNC fans (or even an overwhelming majority). That just seems like something an outsider or somebody who really casually watches sports would say. Like, the person at work who claims to be a huge UNC fan...then whenever you ask them about last night's game they, of course, didn't watch.

And as for the "extremely widely loved"...not at all. Because there's 3 or 4 (depending on if you wanna count Wake, given their smaller fan base) major college basketball programs that all hate each other in NC. So most fans would love one school and have a strong hatred for the other schools. But whatever. There's very little indifference about other schools in NC. If you're a fan of one, then pretty much by default you hate the others. Except Wake...nobody really cares about them.

"Even more disturbing than the dubious origin of the misrepresented paper is that Willingham chose to misrepresent a paragraph whose topic was Rosa Parks and her courageous act of civil disobedience on a bus during the Jim Crow era in Montgomery, Alabama. The misrepresented paragraph has become known as the “Rosa Parks paper.” And, if you Google “Rosa Parks paper,” numerous articles about Mary Willingham and her misrepresentation pop up. If a person wanting to learn about Rosa Parks’ actual papers Googles “Rosa Parks papers,” almost all the articles that pop up concern Willingham’s misrepresentation. One is even from BBC news and another from The Daily Mail of the UK. Yes, Willingham’s misrepresentation has made it across the pond.

Additionally, the first image within Google Images for "Rosa Parks papers” is of Willingham’s misrepresentation, and mixed in with images of actual papers and photos of Rosa Parks is an image of Mary Willingham. (For those not in the know, the status of Rosa Parks’ papers is a contentious issue.) So now, when a schoolchild Googles “Rosa Parks papers,” they will see and read about Mary Willingham and her feeble attempt at supplantation. "

Is this something common for schoolchildren to google? I figured someone writing a paper on Rosa Parks would google things like "Rosa Parks civil rights movement" or "Rosa Parks bus". I guess if you're trying to find a pre-written term paper on Rosa Parks for a fake class at UNC, you might google "Rosa Parks papers" though.

How is that "Willingham's misrepresentation?" She didn't say it was the final paper, did she? I thought ESPN edited the piece in such a way that it was intended to be seen as being the final paper.
