so after lots of thinking & talks with my brother, his finance, etc, we decided it'd just be best if i back out of being a bridesmaid. easier all the way around. so now...

i'll still need a dress to wear to the wedding. i'll be 6 mo pregnant. my husband's sister was 4-5 mo pregnant at my wedding & i liked the bridesmaids dresses okay...so would it be weird if i borrowed that from her? i have no clue if it'll even fit, it's just an idea at this point. my mom paid for all the bridesmaids dresses at my wedding (just fyi, in case there were any thoughts about me paying vs borrowing from SIL)

That's good that y'all were able to reach an adult decision about it rather than it turning into a drama llama fest. Honestly, I wouldn't even buy a dress for the wedding until a week or two out since you have no idea how big you'll be at that point. 6 months pregnant can be very different sizes on two different people (or even the same person in different pregnancies!). There's a couple of sites out there that sell really cute maternity formalwear that you could check out. Just do a Google search for maternity cocktail dress. That's what I was doing when looking for dresses for my friend's wedding.

Yeah October is one of the most popular wedding months down here because it's one of the few months that isn't hot and humid as fuck.

We're at Cobblestone Hall next September. All Saturdays are booked for them for like, September, October, November.

You could do a Sunday.

The Cotton Room is really nice, but since they have their own catering, there is a REALLY expensive catering minimum. We live in Durham and I did have my eye on it, but the minimum put it straight away out of our budget, so I didn't even go look at it.

Oh yeah and there's also the Cotton Company in Wake Forest: http://www.thecottoncompany.net/receptions-events

Wake Forest is kind of out there though if you're not coming from North Raleigh.

Picking invites soon... Feels weird to do so much wedding stuff in a short amount of time. I went with my future SIL and MIL to find their dresses, and that was a success. Then we had two of our premarital counseling sessions, and I had a bridal shower. Andddd we nailed down how my future MIL will make the pinwheels. It's coming up fast...

How far out did y'all get your marriage license?

We got ours way in advance but that was because we had to find time when one of us could go during the Register of Deed's hours which wasn't easy.

You can. You can even fill out the form/paperwork online then just go pick it up. People go get a license then get married at the justice of the peace in the same day.

You can get it on that Friday, just leave yourself enough time in your schedule. I've been to a wedding where the Bride and Groom were rushing out the door at 4:00, because the office closed at 4:30, and they hadn't gotten the license yet.

And I thought both parties had to be present to get the license? Or is that not right?

Yeah both parties have to be there. That's why we had a bitch of a time finding a time that worked for both of us.

lol just realized I said "one" and not "both in my first post. My bad. We were definitely both there

It's totally something the two of you can do when you come home the week of the wedding. It will seriously take 10 minutes (time for parking not included) especially if you fill out the form online first. No need to panic.

And you can do it in any county in NC. Doesn't have to be the county you're getting married in.

Deep breaths

^Agreed. It does not take long at all. Just long enough to sign your signatures and pay, and that's it. No panicking is allowed!

If I was flying in, I'd want to be there Thursday am just in case if there's any delay I have 24 hrs to get home and get the license by 4:30 pm Friday afternoon. But that's just me.

i'm sure this has been covered somewhere in the past 85 pages, but i didnt see it in the last 5 so i figured i'd ask.

i'm a bridesmaid for my friends wedding and since i'm the only one who lives locally...am in charge of the bachelorette party. problem is...i have no idea what to do. it'll be on a weekend towards the end of march and could potentially have 20-25 girls coming. the bride wants to have fun and has mentioned dancing, limos, and lingerie party as ideas and i thought maybe a pole dancing class. but i don't know good places to go dancing in raleigh since i dont have much of a life outside of school and have no clue where to begin planning this shindig.

and fun ideas? only stipulation i have received is no strippers.

A pole dancing class is a great idea for a bachelorette party, but a lot of them have limits (up to 12 or so) for parties. I only know of places in Greensboro, so I can't help with the Raleigh area.

Aradia fitness is GREAT for a pole dancing course. I really liked the instructors and the place was so clean and it was a lot of fun! the rooms are pretty small though like mentioned before I think that 10-12 is probably the maximum size for a class.

Anyone know of a seamstress in the area that would custom-make a dress? There's a dress I love but is a bit out of my price range. I told a friend this and she said that her seamstress in Ohio made her dress custom for a total of $700-$800 and she didn't need alterations because it was made to fit her.

I know many people have gotten married recently in Raleigh and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a photographer for the Raleigh rose gardens. We are think about going with Studio 1 but wanted to see if anybody else had any other suggestions. Our budget is between 1k- 2k. Thanks a ton

besides Caffe Luna, what are some classy but not too expensive restaurants in Raleigh (preferably downtown) where we could have the rehearsal dinner? It'll have to fit about 30-40 people

Something different than the reception (bbq) and I definitely want a private room for specific reasons... price range - not too expensive but around $2,000 is doable

elkaybie thank you for recommending Olga! I will definitely look into meeting with her. All of the reviews online for her talk about bustles, veils, and hems but I've read nothing of results on something custom-made. I wonder if her price would be reasonable!

np! she probably just doesn't do it often enough, but she definitely showed me photos while I was there of some of the custom gowns she has done

gravy and sitti both have private rooms in the basement. the gravy one would probably hold 30-40 people (i ate downstairs once on a busy friday night when they were using it for overflow); i've never been in sitti's but i know it exists.

Jesus. All is not lost, though! We are looking at Porters and 518 West now. Im leaning towards Porters as of now though because it kinda has a special place in my heart (one of our first dates was there). And both at least have a similar rate

Ps,

I am in love with this alter, her hair/look, and this suit color

Is anyone planning on going to the wedding show at the convention center in Raleigh later this month? Or been to one before? I'm trying to figure out what to expect when the fiance and I go.
