Ok, I now have the technology.
hows about this, set up a league that plays like 2 times a month or something, with the tournament times set for what works the best for most people.
each tournament will be $10+1, with a varrying game.
Ill set up a leader board, for tracking overall results, with a forum championship to be determined.
the games stars has the capability of hosting are
NLHE, LHE, lo8, plo, plo8, lo, 7cs, 7cs8.
Since most people seem to prefer the nlhe events, there will be more of those in the scattering of the tournaments.
so ill compose a formula for scoring points. beyond that, if people would like, we could have a thing where like your top x finishes count toward your overall score.
so it seems like there are about 10 people that are up to this.
i wont take the time if its going to be less than 10, but get your friends, this should be fun.
=) 3/30/2006 4:32:39 AM |

some interest has been expressed via pm thus far.
if you have days that would be the best for you to have these events, come forth.

pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
I have the capabilities to set up private tournaments on pokerstars.
Ill set a time that everyone agrees upon, then setup the tournament a few days prior. you could sign up at your convenience, or up to like 1 minute prior to the time the tournament is scheduled to start, just like a regular tournament. they'll just be located under the private tab.
I am still a bit unsure as of the way I'll scoring the overall leaderboard, but ill draw up a spreasheet and post it.
Also since there will be multiple tournaments i was thinking it may be better for some of you guys if we bumped it to a $5?
Doesnt matter to me, id just like to get as many people as we could involved! 3/30/2006 10:41:50 AM |
typhicane All American 2400 Posts user info edit post |
A good way to score would be on a scale that depends on teh number of people involved in the tourney.
If 10 people for example, 1st out gets 1 point, etc... Winner would get 10 points. That is 1 point for each place. That way, even if the number of people fluxuates, it is accounted for. 3/30/2006 10:53:46 AM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
yeah i was thinking of using a varaint of the formula that stars uses for the tlb points, the buyin level factor will be negated due to the flat buyins across the series of tournaments.
but also expanding the point distrobution so its not just top 15%, but nearly everyone.

TWWSOP 2006 has begun!
The first event will be held this thursday at 8 pm, a $10+1 NLHE tournament.
The tournament is up and you can register if you'd like
Tournament ID:22451266 PWD: TWW2006 Pokerstars.
The final formula for an overall leaderboard will be up soon. Ill probably throw in a $$$ card to the overall winner, for extra spice.
Invite your friends, invite every one you know.
There will be a sequence of events, 7 events total, of mixed games. To keep up interest, there are more nlhe events than other games. However, since this is a test of overall skill, your top 4 point gathering places will be used in the overall leaderboard scoring.
Event 1 - $10+1 NLHE Event 2 - $5+0.5 PLO Event 3 - $5+0.5 7CS8 (limit) Event 4 - $5+0.5 NLHE Event 5 - $5+0.5 PLO8 Event 6 - $5+0.5 7CS (limit) Event 7 - $10+1 NLHE
I have lowered the entry fee for the non-nlhe events in order to try and get more players in the field.
If thursday nights dont work for most people, let me know.
check back here for this thread in case we need to change the night of the tournaments, or for leaderboard updates!
the final formula i settled on is the same as the stars TLB forumla, but everyone that particiapates in a tournament recieves points for the leaderboard.
from http://www.pokerstars.com/tlb_tournament_rankings.html
Points = 10 * [sqrt(n)/sqrt(k)] * [1+log(b+0.25)]
Where:
n is the number of entrants k is the place of finish (k=1 for the first-place finisher, and so on) b is the buy-in amount in dollars (excluding administrative fee). For freerolls the buy-in is $0, and for FPP tournaments 1 FPP is counted as $0.05.
So in this case, finishing first in the first tournament, with an expected 30 runners would yeild: P = 10*[(30^.5)/(1^.5)]*[1+log(10+.25)] = 110.132 points.
where as the 15th place finisher would recieve: P = 10*[(30^.5)/(15^.5)]*[1+log(10+.25)] = 28.4359
and finally the last place finisher would recieve: P = 10*[(30^.5)/(30^.5)]*[1+log(10+.25)] = 21.1072
So obviously, going deep and finishing strong warrants more points, and gets more points.
