i think i decided on the ps3 over the xbox360...i really cant stand the xbox controller compared to sonys...plus bluray...plus online thing is free...plus like that one person said it doesnt have any proprietary stuff...wonder when the next pricecut will be...need to figure out a way i can finance this for like a year with no interest too

^^i'm the same way man. The special moves are nowhere near as easy as they claimed to be. It looks good on an HD TV but i'll probably play it a few more times and it'll be forgotten

Supposedly PlayOn works with Netflix, but I have not tried it for that. I was using it to watch Hulu, but now you don't need it.

hulu sucks ass on mine, it is always jumpy. megavideo plays great though, i invested in a premium account. there are still some flash sites it can't play, and sometimes the browser has trouble with pages, but it is on the right track.

anyone else having issues with bluray framerate drops late in a movie?

if i stop it and restart it and go to that chapter, it'll work fine again

I've been trying to get atdhe.net to stream the NHL cames to my ps3, even after the update it does not seem to work.

I saw this article about google desktop - the last point says you can stream the video to your ps3 if upnp enabled:

well, my upnp is enabled on the ps3, but when I run the wireless setup I thought it said that the upnp was disabled (isnt that what puts the ps3 in type 2, and not type 3??). Its been a long time since I ran the set-up, but thats kinda what I remembered.

I have a PS3 now. Late on the bandwagon here. I've already put PlayOn on my computer (unfortunately, since my fiance has a Mac we already signed up for the Netflix Streaming Beta with Silverlight, so it's just hulu for us).

Question, and this is going to sound rather silly but how much of a pain in the butt would installing Yellow Dog Linux be. Looking around online it looks like it's easy to install, but hard to switch back into the PS3 OS for playing games.

Sorry if it's already been asked, but at 86 pages I'm not sure I've got the time to read the whole thread.

BDubLS1: yes, you'll need to get a different cable when you upgrade to a HDTV, so you might as well make it HDMI. If you look in the user manual for your PS3, there should be a table that lays out your different input options (component video, s-video, hdmi, etc) and tells you what the available resolutions are with each type of cables. The stock cables that come with the system max out at 480i, IIRC, whereas you'll want to be able to do 720p, 1080p or 1080i depending on your HDTV.

^Go with HDMI if you can or check to be sure that your TV can accept the highest resolution through component if you want to go that way.

i just played COD4 online and got waxed... i played team deathmatch..
i'm assuming the red dots are the bad guys...but i swear there are no red dots around me and a dude sneaks up behind me and shoots/knifes me up...

also..some players have [brackets] in front of their name... what is all that about?

i think i had 1 kill and 12 defeats in the last match

^ i think the red dots only show up when your enemy is shooting his weapon around you (i think thats right).

they only show up if they fire a weapon or if your teammates have activated the radar (3 Kill streak).


Now if an opponent has a silenced weapon and radar jammer equiped then they won't show up on the radar either.

you'll figure it out.
