I need wording advice
How does this sound for RSVPs?
--
Kindly respond by the first of May
To RSVP by phone call 555.555.5555
Or visit (wedding website) for online RSVPs, directions, accommodations and more
--
the RSVP card looks like this - http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/product/7624/signature_ecru_wedding_response_cards_love_blooms.html
(not those colors)
is saying RSVP on a card 3 times too much? 1/15/2012 10:24:20 PM |

going dress shopping with my mom and his mom today
not as excited as when I went with bottombaby
could have something to do with my mom being the only one who didn't love the way I looked in the dress I really want. oh, and her sending me a list of dresses she wanted to try on. 1/16/2012 8:59:20 AM |
CassTheSass cupid 35382 Posts user info edit post |
sorry elise
maybe try on the dress you love again - sometimes people need to see other dresses to realize that the one you love is the right dress.
good luck dress shopping.
i seriously bought the first dress i tried on. my dad came off as being unsure about it mostly because he thought i was making a quick decision. but i loved the dress and it fit my personality and what i was looking for. it's nothing over the top - it's very simple in terms of a wedding dress but i'm also older and not into the whole giant ball gown hype (it's just not me). 1/16/2012 9:06:02 AM |
elise mainly potato 13090 Posts user info edit post |
This was also the first one I tried on. Mom only saw a picture of me in it, I think she'll like it better in person, but we'll see. I think she may just be trying to pretend she doesn't like it because of the price tag. My stepdad saw the picture and said the dress was made for me.
and ballgowns are what I have to wear it seems, in dresses I'm a size 10 or smaller in the waist, and a 14 in the hips, so it's ball gowns or a-lines.

i feel like most girls end up with the first dress they try on. don't lose out hope. and i agree - she will probably change her mind once she sees it in person. she might also be doing what my dad did - questioning the dress so you would try on more just so you are sure that you picked the right one.
my dress is a-line. i can email you a picture if you would like to see it 1/16/2012 9:21:49 AM |

I think my dress was like the 10th one I tried on... But I also had to please my mom and sister and try on multiple long ones knowing I wouldn't want them. Don't lose hope 1/16/2012 9:50:38 AM |

I added that in bold as I think you need to make sure people respond whether or not they are attending since you are only doing online and phone call RSVP. Without it I think it's vague.
I know it's easy to pick up the phone or hop online, and you'll have people not respond regardless of your method, but I know people that have done online RSVP expecting, "it's easy! we'll get it back quick (and save on postage)," and the week they needed their numbers in for the reception they called or emailed close to 90% of their guests due to no response.1/16/2012 11:21:45 AM |

I didn't have that bad of a response rate doing online RSVPs. And all my invitation said was "RSVP: Call 919-------- or go to http://www.whatevertheurlwas.com" I think I had to contact two people, and one of them was a bitchy relative that we would have had to do that with regardless of how we collected RSVPs lol. 1/16/2012 12:14:31 PM |

im putting all of the expenses i can on my credit card, and immediately paying it off, for points.
last month's statement came through, and it's putting the catering company charges/deposits in the "dining" category, which has double cash back points.
since i'm using them to sub out floral, rentals, and staffing... it's going to be a pretty healthy amount back.
score.

I can recommend a great place in Eastern, NC. But I don't think that will help you. Our cake was 1 layer of chocolate, and one layer buttercream in each tier, with cream cheese frosting. Classic flavors, and great combination of flavors. 1/18/2012 8:42:36 PM |

We did a dessert buffet with the piece de resistance being a red velvet cake. Sadly I didn't get to try any of the other desserts because I was too busy talking with guests. But everyone said they were good so I'll take their word on it lol. 1/18/2012 9:45:11 PM |

we are going to do desserts under pretty cake plates on all the tables I think, but I am going to get at the very least a small cake just for cutting, and then keeping the top tier. if the price is right we'll get a big cake. I want something kind of like this
but frosted, and only fondant decor, not fondant wrapped. I know it won't look as clean, but fondant is a waste, imo. 1/18/2012 11:38:39 PM |

We're having Ashley's Cakes - our cake will have fondant, but the baker has tried multiple different types and has one that doesn't taste like plastic and is actually yummy it's like a pillow
^ We went to Sweet Memories but to be quite honest, I just felt like another number to them. Great tasting stuff though
ps - 4 months to go now! and in 2 days we will have been engaged for 2 years

Our baker is a lady waaaay out in Pleasant Garden. We met her at a Castle McCullough bridal festival, and we have the same opinions on fondant and cakes. She's just this awesome no-nonsense older lady who had the best cakes there by FAR. She works out of her home, and it's just her.
When we drove out there and met her for a tasting, she had two entire cakes for us to take home. Drool.
We're actually doing something slightly similiar elise. We're having a leaf motif on our cake, but it's going to be white and milk chocolate leaves (the white being painted in appropriate fall colors) raining down around the cake as opposed to a branch. All buttercream frosting, no fondant

Take a sample of yours all stuffed to the post office and see if it'll cost extra.
The last invite I got had two forever stamps on them... which weirds me out as they have no value on them, so how much does it really cost.. 1/24/2012 8:43:06 PM |

^ haha that doesn't make any sense. Seems like they wasted some forever stamps. 1/24/2012 8:44:06 PM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
why would it be a waste of forever stamps?
if it costs $0.90 to mail.... two forever stamps is correct postage...
also, it seems as if every post office near me is stuck in the 40s and doesnt have one of those stamp vending machines in the 24 hour access areas.
guess ill have to leave work early to get some.
i found the size requirements for being letter size, might be too tall, like yours wpg 1/25/2012 9:06:59 AM |

I guess it depends on how much the postage would have been otherwise. It also could have been they brought them to the post office and the postal worker just gave them the forever stamps rather than regular stamps when sending them out. I had that happen with my save the dates. I miss when the post office had all sorts of stamps you could choose from in their lobby. 1/25/2012 10:28:10 AM |

My mom bought stamps from the post office that had wedding bells on them

that might help if you know the weight of your envelope

Ours went with a regular stamp. Had them weighed at the post office. However, one person said she was asked to pay 32 extra cents when hers arrived. I don't think she was telling the truth, because none of the other 130 invites had that problem, and we had them weighed beforehand... 1/25/2012 10:58:21 AM |

It is, and if it had been anyone else, we would have been really concerned. But she was a snooty person anyways, who spoke with disdain about any of our plans, because "that's just not the way it was done when I got married."
I've also never had mail delivered without correct postage. It would also just come back to your address, not some payable on delivery mess. That, plus we sent ourselves one, and all of our immediate family, and no one had a problem. 1/25/2012 11:13:19 AM |

Yes, she wanted to sit people without their spouses/guests, because that's what you do at parties, apparently, to get people to mingle.
I would have had a revolt on my hands if I had done that. 1/25/2012 11:17:57 AM |

It might've been a waste of forever stamps, not sure. It's 45 cents for 1 oz or less, and 2 oz is something like 65 cents.
Ah, that's already been addressed in Fhqwhgads's link.
You can also send your invites to certain cities like Romance, AR to get them hand-stamped with certain postmarks. 1/25/2012 11:21:57 AM |

you know, that might work if you were having like 20 people who knew most of the people invited. but i know in large gatherings where i don't know a lot of people, i talk a lot with my fiancee. we will mingle, but we usually do it together. but i agree with you - that wouldn't work well for most weddings and people would have been upset.1/25/2012 11:32:18 AM |

wtf I have never heard of that before. And considering the amount of event planning I do you'd think I would have at some point.
Anyway, if you're assigning tables one would hope you'd go to the trouble to group couples together that have things in common to talk about or already know each other. wtf is this lady talking about hahaha.1/25/2012 11:53:23 AM |
