what's your favorite keyboard?

i was a big swype fan and i think i still may be, but the beta has issues with removing contact names from its dictionary. i have some facebook friend faggots that have weird names or put weird middle names in and so i remove them every time but they show back up the next time, making swype hard to use. most keyboards give you the option of integrating contact names or not, but swype didn't - it just did it for me automatically and seems to refresh that every few hours or something, ignoring words i've removed in the past.

so after trying Smart Keyboard, Share Keyboard, Swift Key, HTC's default, HTC_IME, and Better Keyboard

I've decided to stick with Better keyboard for now. I have skinned it the way I like and the auto-suggest is pretty good on it. The multi-touch is quick to pick up things - my thumbs can really move when I go into landscape mode. This keyboard is the one that keeps up with me best right now. What about you guys?

I'm not a fan of swype. I actually prefer just the plan old "android" keyboard. I guess that is because it is pretty much the same as the iPhones keyboard, which I used for the last 3 years.

^^^ i've only had physical before, but i've got an ipod touch so i'm familiar with the touchscreen as well. if you swype, how do you type two of the same letter in a row? like "hello" or "goodbye"? whenever i try in the store it automatically inputs some random word that's nowhere close to what i intended.

You do a little squiggle on the letter to get doubles.

Ok I am finally at my wits end with how damn slow my moto droid is. I am finally going to root. Without reading 86 pages, what do you suggest the easiest route is for this.

http://lifehacker.com/5563924/the-start-to-finish-guide-to-rooting-your-android-phone

1) downgrade to 2.0
2) root
3) install ROM Manager
4) flash recovery & install custom ROM

you may be able to root if you're on 2.2 already:

I'm on 2.2

This rooting method works on Android 2.2 build FRG01B. It does not currently work on FRG22D.

What ROM do you suggest?

yeah, afaik, you'll need to use RSDLite to root FRG22D. There's a thread over at droid forums with directions. Believe it's called "root regardless of android os version" or something like that

That worked great. Now that I'm rooted, anyone recommend a ROM?

Also, how do you guys get rid of the stock apps like Twitter and Amazon MP3? I still can't uninstall these god damn things.

I would start with LithiumMod and if you don't like it move on from there. When you use ROM Manager and use LithiumMod, there's a walk-through where it will ask which apps you want to remove.

well right now, after installing the newest variant of Cyanogen, my phone won't boot. It just constantly cycles the Cyanogen logo over and over again.

Is Lithium stable for the Droid 1?

I'm restoring nandroid and going to something else.

Did you wipe everything prior to installing? Usually it's a good idea to wipe prior to installing a custom rom. Cyanogen has a lot of bells and whistles but Lithium Mod did seem faster and more stable when I had a Droid. Another good one is ChevyNo1's Simply Stunning. Not sure what the current version is but I used 4.7 and that was probably the best rom I've used.

No i didn't wipe everything, maybe that was the problem

ok so Lithium is a premium mod and it won't let me download it. I guess that means i have to buy Rom Mgr Pro, don't I...

I never used Rom Manager to download roms as it's too quirky. You should be able to download any of the roms from their threads over at droid forums. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/custom-roms/. Download the rom, put it anywhere on your sd card, reboot into recovery and choose Install from zip.

Weather Bug

On yeah and I am so excited about.

I am trying to get better at turning off wifi and bluetooth to save battery but I think ultimately a larger battery is the best solution to a phone not lasting all day. This one is 2200mah stock is 1500 so it should give me about 50% more, also had to order a different clip but thats ok.

yeah, you're better off using wifi if you have access and turning it off when you don't so it isn't needlessly scanning for and trying to find networks.

some of the custom roms adjust the scan times but I'm not aware of any other ways. I just use the Wifi switch in the notification bar whenever I'm going to be away for an extended time, otherwise I just use whatever network is around me.

I have a Droid2, and when I got it and set it up, it automatically plugged into my facebook account, putting pictures with all of the names, etc.

2 problems, it also did this will all of my twitter peeps as well. Whenever I touch the phone button on the bottom left or the contacts button on the bottom right, it freezes and basically crashes.

What can I do to stop this from happening? For all of the talk about speed of smartphones, It's taking me 2-3 minutes at a time just to call someone.

HALP!

Can't say I've any dialing lag on the original Droid or Fascinate. There should be an option to either turn off/limit sync for facebook and twitter or something in the display options. No-blur is weird though.

Im pretty sure you can turn off sync for facebook, and you can at least set it to only show contacts with phone numbers.
