^^ Wow. Me too. She's very candid about her former ED. YES, overexercising to make up for increased food intake is a form of bulimia. It took me a long time to realize this. It's great that this blogger addresses this issue.

Also, love her insight about combatting esteem destroyers and building a positive body image.

It's funny. I feel that at least once a day, I hear one of my skinny girlfriends complain about being fat. And then, of course, the larger girls around them feel fat. And then they start to echo those same "I'm a fatty" sentiments. It's a really vicious pattern.

Is overeating to make up for lack of weight an eating disorder? I would imagine so.

somewhat of an update...

I got this shirt for Christmas for last year... it was snug and I always had to wear a tank top underneath it (to smooth out my rolls)

NO TANK TOP UNDERNEATH NOW, WOOOOO!!!!

I'm planning to pick up some ZMA (Zinc + Magnesium + Vitamin B6) this week. Supposedly it's a good way to boost testosterone and increase muscle development, although studies conflict about its effectiveness. Anyone have personal experience with it?

and begonias.. so sad I can't go to your classes anymore. can you do a webcast for them? haha

oh and since being on these meds, I'm now down to 153 pounds but it's crazy because this weekend I drank quite a bit on Saturday... and still lost weight... I'm wondering if my metabolism is jump started by them?

I started taking ZMA a few weeks ago, nothing really noticeable. Melatonin helps me sleep a lot more.

I actually seem to wake up with a headache and a little dehydrated when I take it.

I want to try the ZMAG (zma + gaba).

Unless you have a zinc/magnesium deficiency, I doubt you will see much of a difference in your performance or muscle size.

If you aren't squatting, dead lifting or overhead pressing heavy; I'd do that before, or in addition to, taking any supplements for test/muscle growth.

[one-up]Ran my first Marathon that morning [/one-up]. I hadn't run in 2 weeks and almost died, but I finished. I started getting really bad leg cramps after mile 20 and had to run/walk the last six. I was on pace to finish in under four hours but run/walking the last six miles took over an hour. So I finished in around 5:09.

Next year I will finish under four hours.

Congrats! You ran the Marine Corps marathon, right? Gorgeous course and such an amazing way to see the city. I ran that race four years ago and would love to run it again. Though I think the Napa Valley Marathon may be next on my list.

ok so the other night me and arab went to the gym. he took me to the weights. while doing the inner thigh I easily lifted 100pd, I kept uping it till there was resistance at 190pds. I could have gone to 250pds, but he wouldn;t let me b/c he said I would pull my groin. of course my groin is fine, but is this like freaky too much to be able to do??

The abbreviation for pounds is lb not pd.

You swim right, or was that just Arab? I remember being able to put the whole stack of weights for the adductor machine after swim season due to doing tons of frog kicks from swimming breast stroke. Most of the time I'd use it to stretch my groin out.

All -- Ive been following this for a few weeks but have been too lazy to post, but, congrats to all. There has been some impressive progress (eg pics on this page, nice!).

Not sure if it's taboo since I havent noticed it, but for those gals and guys who are more into the lifting side, are any of you using any supplements? I used to play rugby back at school and take a few (whey, creatine, preworkout, etc) to keep my weight up but stopped once I graduated. Suggestions for someone who is just casually (lifting 3x a week, running 1-2x a week) trying to build up some muscle and work off some love handles? I was thinking some whey for post-lift, and while it's not necessary, maybe some preworkout stuff to get me going after work (jack3d or noexplode)?

Any and all input is welcome, thanks!

I take a serving of this, mixed with 3 ounces of soymilk, after every workout:

It's 120 calories per scoop (about 140 with 3 ounces of soymilk), no sugar, 25% of your daily calcium and 21 grams of protein.

Sometimes I mix it up with Muscle Milk Light:

It's tasty, but it's a LOT of liquid, particularly since I'm used to a 3-4 ounce portion of heavily concentrated whey powder and soymilk. At 160 calories per bottle, no sugar and 20 grams of protein, it's relatively healthy.

I also use a protein powder (optimum nutrition gold standard, vanilla ice cream flavor, yum), but that's it. I'm mostly an endurance athlete, but I've been working a lot in the weight room to build more functional strength and core stability. If I've just been lifting weights, I'll mix the protein powder with milk and sometimes a bit of chocolate syrup. If I've just finished a cardio workout, I don't usually have any protein powder unless it was an hour or longer; in that case, I usually make a smoothie with it so I can also replenish some carbs.

^^^an old friend of mine did tell me that the time he was on adderall he lost a ton of weight

however, adderall has nothing to do with the strength and definition that is evident in your pictures Sam
