^ What do you mean by that? I was referring to people looting within the neighborhoods, not any stores

Hmmm.... I know the people from UMCOR are required to wear their namebadge. But now that I think about it they might be color coded by region. I know eastern NC is bright green.

Getting certified for UMCOR is really easy. If you have ever taken a first aid class it's very similar to that, except they're showing you how to use a chainsaw, how to identify trees that are dangerous, properly put tarps on roofing, and how to assess damage to a structure to see if it's worth trying to save. You also get psych basics - it's not just the house that's damaged. These people are almost always shell shocked from seeing half their neighborhood wiped out.

You basically get a team together of around 10 people and you all go take the class, then meet up once per quarter for a refresher - which usually amounts to tarping an old building for fun, assessing a condemned place, taking a first aid class, etc. The MERCI center - conveniently located in Goldsboro - also offers advanced classes in things like radio operation, triage, and the military protocols for communicating with national guard or army in the area. I'm hoping to take the radio class soon

They will also come to your church and do trainings for cheap. I think we paid like $300 for the guy to come to our church and show us how to go into an area that's been devastated. With training and experience your team climbs up a list for what they get called for. We're just under the threshold for what they call parachute drops: basically the airforce and national guard will fly your team and a shipping crate looking container into the middle of nowhere (think katrina level disaster) and your job is to be their eyes and ears on the ground. They expect you to be completely self sufficient for 2 weeks at a minimum. Everything from setting up solar cells to radios to signaling, first aid - it's all a part. I've always been kinda redneck so I fit right in

^2 That's wayyyy more than I thought they did! Well, I have taken first aid and am in a medical program (and counseling), sooooo I think I would fit right in as well except maybe not for the 2 weeks on my own part because, well... school and stuff. But I also know how to use a chainsaw. Hmm. I think I'm going to see if I can get some basic training or something to help out. I know they're all around Bama right now (and Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee I think)

Thanks!

We're looking at a busy day tomorrow here in Oklahoma. Moderate risk out for SW and central parts of the state. Still trying to choose our chase target for tomorrow.

Drove right into this on my way home. Bad wind, bad lightning, whoa rain.

Big tree two blocks down is split in half HALF . Too dark for me to see if it was from lightning. Assuing so.

Power flickering.
