zomg yes.

AIM is the heat. the push notifications aren't nearly as annoying as i thought they'd be.

in theory, it shouldn't murder the battery any more than an exchange push account would.

Just a general phone question, I guess, but how do other phones handle being on AIM? I've never had a phone with AIM capabilities before the iPhone. Seems like half my buddy list has the little mobile phone icon next to their name and they're always signed on. Before now you had to have the iPhone turned on and not in sleep/standby mode (i.e. the screen isn't turned off) in order to be signed onto AIM, correct? How do other phones get away with letting people be signed on all the time and it not draining the battery like crazy?

they're text message based

whenever you sign off of AIM on your computer, it signs you on via mobile... whenever someone sends you an IM, you get a text message, you can reply to it, etc... it works, but it's tedious and somewhat expensive.

(at least, that's how cingular used to do it back in the day)

most of them with the thing beside their name just have their account enabled to forward texts to their phone number..they aren't running any special aim app

in aim you can set it to auto send msgs to your cellphone via sms if you want whenever you aren't signed on....

1/9 - When you sign off on your computer AIM service signs you into 'mobile'. It forwards IM's via text and you can also reply via text.

My girlfriend uses a sidekick, and it just runs AIM constantly in the background. If she gets an IM, it just makes the IM sound (or whatever you set it to) pretty much the same as on the computer. I've had phones that did it via text and others that did it via software on the phone.

I pre-ordered a couple of days ago from AT&T, and all I got was the order confirmation. It says "Your credit card will not be charged until items are shipped." so I'm not sure if they have already authorized the purchase or if they'll do that right before they ship it.

I'm simply saying if someone is already going to buy a 16 GB 2nd gen iPod touch for 299$ plus accessories, i'm offering it for $199. The iPhone is irrelevant because its price is subsidized with a contract. I'd say $100+ off an iPod (slightly used) is cheap.

So comparing it to the un-subsidized price it's waaay cheaper than either iPhone.

My bank statement is already showing that I paid in full for it...but the email they sent said I wouldn't get charged until it shipped. Does anybody know what the deal is with transferring paid apps from one iPhone to another? Am I gonna be able to play all my games and stuff on the 3GS when I get it? I googled, but everything is showing instructions on how to transfer from the iPhone to PC, which I already have that done automatically. When I sync my 3GS to iTunes are all my apps gonna transfer to it? What happens to the old iPhone as far as the apps are concerned?

i don't see why you won't be fine. when i traded in my first gen for a 3G, every time i downloaded an app i already had on the first gen it said "you have already paid for this app. press ok to download it at no cost" or something.

i did have to redownload them and install them individually, they didn't just transfer over when i synced with itunes. though i kinda did that intentionally cus i thought it would be a good time to say goodbye to all the crap applications i never used anymore. there may actually be a way to resync every little thing on your current phone to a 3GS, if that's what you prefer.

the ability to record sound remotely or even possibly short video clips through the mobileme locator thing would also make it much easier to catch potential thieves. or maybe set it up to record sound or video when the mobileme locator has been activated..(but only start recording when the phone is in motion...they can turn off location..but not accelerometers. ) just thinking out loud

That would be a neat trick, considering the touches don't have cameras.

But on the real, there is software for the iPhone that lets you look at the iSight camera on your macbook. I've used that remotely before to check out what's going on in my house (hint:nothing)
