Same, I really kind of hate that game. There I said it. Something about the GTA games I've finally gotten comfortable with saying - I JUST HATE THEM.

They all control awkwardly and are very repetetive. None are very smooth either visually. GTAIV is no different than the 3 before it except with more polygons and bigger maps.

^The fact that it has endless replay value once you dig into some of the awesome user-created levels that are online. That's what the hype is about. The game itself is just a good platformer. Some of the levels online are just mind-blowingly good, and it's fun when you can get other (good) players to join in.

Finally got around to trying Fallout 3 last night... It just basically reconfirms for me what I've always known: I don't like RPGs. Started off fun enough, but then I tried to pick a lock and broke it. So it was telling me I needed a key to proceed. Briefly thought about trekking back into town to look for one or barter one or whatever you do in these types of games, but ended up just shutting the game off instead.

In other news: I've got a preorder on one of those sick-ass Street Fighter 4 Tournament Edition sticks ($150 ) I'm getting pretty psyched about that game, I was a hardcore SF2 nut back in the day.

That out of the way, man Killzone 2 graphics are really damn impressive. Looks like a lot of fun. Wonder why they aren't marketing it better?? It's pretty much Sony's flagship title this year yet I've seen no commercial for it. And the WORST thing Sony did was make the demo only available right now if you preorder it from Gamestop? WTF. ^^The officially Sony one is very nice, albeit a little pricey ($40 i think). It has great headset quality and also acts a standing mic when docked. Ars wrote up a nice review.

I use a motorola one that Dammit100 recommended. I think i got it for 20 bucks or so on ebay. the H700 i think it was. Haven't had any issues with it.

I beat Resistance 2 last night. I thought the single player was really awesome and it took me at least 12 hours to beat it I think. I took my time with it to a certain extent (wanted to get the trophies) but there were a lot of different stages. The ending was interesting and leaves you at a cliff hanger kindof, but it happens so fast with absolutely no explanation or aftermath, so I was a little disappointed, but they will finally explain and clear everything up in the last installment of the trilogy (hopefully).

Now I'll just play this online until Killzone 2 comes out. Can't freaking wait.

so Fallout 3 received IGN's game of the year award. Definitely wasn't a title i played this year.



For those of you who have your ps3 linked up to a media server(your desktop). If you stream movies, more importantly blu-ray rips, and you stream them wirelessly is there any lag, skipping, or any other issues you've dealt with?

My friend wants a ps3 that will be mainly for a blu-ray player and serve as the jukebox for when we have parties, etc. to play through his surround sound. Music shouldn't be an issue, but he's got a ton of downloaded DVDs and will begin downloading blu-ray rips as well. He'll have a good connection to his wireless router (no walls to block, fairly close). Should he have any issues with video playback?

^^ I get occasional stutters streaming SD video, and definitely have problems wirelessly with HD.

I've heard though it was because the PS3's wireless card sucks, and that using a wired connection has no problems.

I've been watching HD tv show rips streamed wirelessly to my PS3 for a while now. Don't have any lag or skipping issues, however every now and again I'll get the "PS3 has been disconnected from the media server" message and the whole thing will die. It's odd though, there is no rhyme or reason to when it happens, and lately it hasn't been happening at all. I did go through a spell when it happen almost like clockwork every hour or so.

Oh yeah, if you're downloading HD rips as 720p MKVs, use this app to make them playable on the PS3 with no transcoding and maintaining the 5.1 sound.

i have all of my media on my desktop and run my PlayOn server there. when they were both in my room, right beside the wireless router, wireless streaming worked just fine. now that i moved my desktop into the study wireless streaming sometimes had problems. i just dropped a cable through the basement though and have everything wired and have no problems. i use wmp11 to access my content (and occasionally tversity if things are in a weird format) and PlayOn for Hulu and Netflix and have no problems.

i've had one file that just wouldn't stream well though, and have no idea why. with the same setup that worked fine for dozens of other movies and all of my songs, this one file was always jerky on the ps3. i ended up just copying it to the ps3 and it played fine that way, so who knows. except for that i have had no problems.

ive got my ps3 pulling media from my xp home desktop, vista business laptop, and vista ultimate laptop. i am going to try out windows 7 and see how it works.

Meh, I enjoyed GTAIV for what it was. I think a lot of the backlash it's getting is undeserved and mostly because of the review scores it got. The game still achieved some pretty amazing things from a technical standpoint, had a decent story with well developed characters that you actually cared about, and let you do some really fun stuff. The multiplayer even had it's moments if you played with a group of friends. It's no where near a perfect game as the reviews would have led you to believe (which is why I think it gets so much hate these days) but calling it an outright bad game is just being unfair.

This is a bit confusing but when I say bad I mean 'pedestrian' bad. Like, I consider Gears of War 2 a bad game because it did nothing to advance the series whatsoever except rehash the same thing. I wouldn't dare declare it a universally "bad" game as in like Superman 64 bad. Same with GTA IV

And dude, I didn't give a rats ass about Niko Belic or his brother, or Brucie, or any of those guys whatsoever. They were just streotypical new york gangstas. Forget the story for a second, it's the game play I thought wholly uninspiring and boring. You basically drive from point A to point B with variations on killing, chasing, or running from something. The scope of the map is impressive but it's flat, with no real depth. Like Oblivion...impressive square millage but underneath the hood is the same shit....the same old elvin ruins.

Plus the control and feel sucked. It was really clunky. Multiplayer had moments where it was decent, but by god the framerate couldn't even hold a standard 30 fps. It just felt slow and cumbersome the entire time. I just hated it....but I guess I never really understood the appeal of this franchise because of these reasons that have plagued the game since they moved to a 3d engine.

I agree that the characters were pretty good and the over all production of the story and acting was very good, and the city itself is totally awesome. I also agree that the controls feel clanky and there is a lot they can fix with the next GTA, especially that shitty multiplayer lobby system. Just fucking awful.

the first game was a god awful piece of shit. after the first 20min of actual story where you were wooed by the sweet graphics the game turned into, turn a corner shoot some pirates. rinse and repeat. the ending was the absolute worst of any game I've ever beat. 3 shots, oh you win. I'll stick it on gamefly to see if they advanced the eye candy, but thats about it.

^^ I thought the gameplay mechanics in Uncharted were awesome and really enjoyed the game. If GTA4 had the same 3rd party control mechanics and cover system it would have been close to a perfect 10 in my opinion.
