^finally some thorough analysis.

Don't forget that when Lewis played his big minutes against Miami and Duke, he had a combined 1 turnover (and 11 assists ... and 29 points)"

lewis is a great offensive player, at least in the half court, but as you would expect he is an atrocious defender. his defense is basically equivalent to vandenbergs offense

^^i get that your trying to emulate JayBee and trying to be objective/trollish

but come on dude, lewis is not the reason why we lost that Miami game.

hey, like i said, i thought Lewis played great when Brown was out, and I agree thus far, he's been the type of player who needs to get into the flow of the game to play well

but his solid stats in a few games with big minutes didn't lead to any wins, so lets not act like Lewis should've been getting 28 minutes the last few games

even though The E Man is the only person really saying that

I didn't say that. I just said that we had depth and chose not to use it.

so if we win that miami game, which we lost on a last second tip in, would you be saying the same thing?

edit: and no one is saying he should have gotten 28 minutes per game. All he proved through that stretch is that he is a baller and shouldnt have been sitting on the bench for so long.

Playing small ball is our only hope next year.

Lots of teams have done it effectively.

Barber, Purvis, Turner, Warren, Anya would be a ridiculously athletic lineup. Not a great team, but definitely causes some matchup difficulties

that team would avg 10 rebounds a game and anya would have to pick one end of the floor to stay glued to because he'd be gassed after 5 minutes

Nope. Wed get enough lose balls that we wouldn't get killed on the glass.

I expect barber to be a good rebounder

small ball teams that work usually play 4 out 1 in with the 1 in being an upperclassman who is super athletic

anya is the antithesis of that

we are going to get a non-rookie Forward via JuCo/transfer or something - i mean it just HAS to happen. No way we roll Vandy/Anya all year next year, just no way...

We would be a better rebounding team playing small ball than with vandenburg in there.

The key to basketball is to play your most optimal lineups. Usually that involves playing your best guys even if its a non traditional lineup.

Unc is a great example of that. They sucked monkey sac when they insisted on james and hubert. When they rokled their best two players hairston and bullock out there they are suddenly susan solid.

anyone think there's a chance we go super small at any points next season (lewis, barber, purvis, turner, & warren)?

Big difference between unc and us next year

1) we dont have any shooters as good as bullock OR hairston
2) their "center" now is james mcadoo, who isn't a good player, but is at least athletic and not total clownshoes on defense. anya is out of shape and slow
3) never said to play v-berg altho he is our current #2 stunna on next years depth chart. we need an alex oriakhi type transfer. maybe once syracuse gets slammed with sanctions we could bring in one of their guys?

I'm looking forward to seeing Anya develop with a strength coach like Howell has done the past 2 seasons. With his height/wing span if he can get in good shape and get stronger he could be a starter for at least 3 years for us.

Still want to see us go after 1-2 other people in this class (most likely JUCO) that can shoot the ball. Watching the other NCAA tournament games makes it painfully obvious that we need more of that.

This is actually a good point. Howell basically reworked his body in the same timeframe just by cutting out Bojangles.

Hopefully the coaching staff are already giving Anya some pointers on diet/exercise. With his length and size, he could be the first true rim protector we've had since Simmons.

The problem is that Anya won't be on campus til June at the earliest. I don't see a graduating high school senior putting in the work at home. He would need a strength/conditioning coach in his ear every single day to make it happen.

Only playing SF when he could crash the boards instead of having to box out from the low blocks

because we're nc state and things like joel james dropping 80 pounds in one summer don't happen to us

(joel james still sucked this year)

Yeah most guys tend to underestimate the type of conditioning and shape they will need to be in to play at the college level because high school is so easy for them.

Its not impossible but I dont think anya will look toned by the start of the season

Even if he doesn't do anything til June, that's ~5 months he'll have working with our coaches. Not expecting him to play 30+/game, but it's a little ridiculous to assume he won't be able to get up and down the floor just because a few sources said he was out of shape back in January.

why is that suspension worthy? If watching the tourney has shown you nothing else, it shows that undersized but athletic teams can compete. Hell, UNC may just make it to the final four with that philosophy.

The alternative is to give vandenburg or an extremely raw anya major minutes and I definitely don't have any confidence in that option.

Butler, Wichita St., Marquette, even Temple

I think it's concerning Gott hasn't squashed the rumor yet, I'm sure he's aware of it and has been called to comment seeing as it is on ESPN now. It would likely be his dream job but I doubt they would offer him.

If he left I would suppose we would try to grab an A10 coach.
