I was wondering why Beasley was on there but I think he's out of contract soon or he's being actively shopped by Puebla so this is just more exposure for him.

Man trying to keep up with soccer and all the leagues and tournaments is pretty damn infuriating for a casual fan. I'm sure it's easy if you grew up following soccer, but for a guy trying to get more interested in it as an adult, it is just frustrating.

Pro Seasons seem ti overlap. Bayern just won champ league but that was last years champ league. This years premiere ended a montg ago but it seems like pro season is already starting. Players being bought sold and loaned is confusing. Relegation promotion is confusing. Internationally h ard to figure out why some cups dont matter. Confederate doesnt matter? Why brazil is not showin g their cards. A teams b teams c teams.

- But pro seasons don't overlap (ignoring MLS because seriously who cares)

- I don't understand what that means about "last years champ league."

- The season starts in August.

- The transfer process is a foreign thing, true, but 5-10 minutes on Wikipedia solves that problem.

- I have no idea how promotion/relegation could be confusing. Top three go down, top three from lower division go up. Simple enough.

- Pretty much every international cup matters except the Confederations Cup (not hard to figure out, it's a trial run for the WC). Most of the world would argue the Gold Cup never matters, but for the good teams in CONCACAF, it only "matters" when the winner goes to the Confederations Cup.

- Every sport has reserve teams. This shouldn't be that confusing.

if rflong thinks it's frustrating because there a lot of competitions and a lot of options and he doesn't want to dedicate time to following all of them, then I completely understand that. Especially if you spend an equal amount of time watching NFL, NBA, MLB, college sports, etc. If somebody wanted to get into soccer but didn't have the time to dedicate to all of it, I'd suggest just following one team in one league. To make it even easier, I would only follow the USA and their players. If you'd rather follow club soccer and I know this seems to piss a lot of people off but I would just pick one of the best teams so you're guaranteed to be able to watch all their games and read a lot about them. There's nothing fun about choosing a Championship club that you never get to watch and nobody in the US gives a fuck about.

tl;dr I don't think it's complicated but there are a lot of options which I guess could be overwhelming

So bayern won the champiinsleague but then like 2 weks later had to skip our friendly because there was another tounament. K inda confusing if maui invitational w as right after the final four.

Also champions league t eams play in 2 leagues at once so its not true promotion. Chelsea had a sjit year but won champiinwleague then went back to championsleague amd premiere league.

Bayern Munich is not the same as the German national team.

And the Champions League isn't a league. It's just a long tournament. You have to have a qualification process for the tournament somehow.

[Edited on June 28, 2013 at 5:33 PM. Reason : my thimg is you xant have a tournament after the biggest one. it dilutes it]

^^^^^given that he followed your comment about Beasely's club team, I think he is talking about the fact that if you already pay attention to the USMNT and want to follow the players on their club teams, it's damn near impossible except for those in the MLS. Of course, that's just because our national team doesn't have much talent relative to the other top national teams.

To break it down to something even easier for someone interested in getting into it--English Premier league, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A and German Bundesliga are the best leagues in terms of talent and prestige.

Champions league takes the top teams from each domestic league and has them play each other the next year. It'd be like if the Miami Heat played a several month long tournament (while the next NBA season was happening) against the Chinese professional league champ, Italian champ, Australian champ, etc.

ohhh right. yeah, that's fair.

That's why I try to watch every US game, even if it's just a friendly or shitty Gold Cup roster. There a lot of players I never see until they play for the US.

Brazil scoring at will, Spain playing horrible.

Ramos misses a PK, must be hungover from too many caipirinhas.

Not a pointless tournament from a Brazilian Point of View.

Get to see how the infrastructure might hold up during the World Cup, and if I heard correctly, the Brazilian National Team doesn't have another meaningful game until the World Cup next year. This was a good chance for them to play together as a team leading up to the tournament.

Maybe the beatdown will allow Spain to get their head right going into the World Cup next year too.

That was a fun game to watch.

Spain had their chances, but Brazil missed a few gimmes as well. I haven't seen a team disrupt Spain's ball movement like Brazil did yesterday..it was incredible to watch. Commentators (and stories written after the game) made it sound like Brazil was playing dirty...but to me it just looked like they were extremely aggressive.

As nice as the goals were...the goal-line save by Sideshow Bob was the best part of the game to me. I thought that was incredible and was a ridiculous momentum changer seeing that they scored their second goal immediately after that.

Donovan and Holden were quite impressive past night. If we could put this all together somehow it could be our best national side ever in Brazil.

It's not a country and it's not a member of FIFA. It's sort of a scam squad, being that much of it is made up of French citizens that have little or no relation to the island.

I'm 50/50 on the Mexico game in Columbus. I really don't need to spend the money and take the vacation days but this will be the last chance for a Mexico Columbus game, I'm pretty sure.
