got a PC with a 1.3 GHz processor with 768 MB of ram

this is what my window looks like...guess i'm running 3.25-Console-beta

i just have it open automatically on startup and just let it run constantly

aielman- It looks like you are doing OK. What kind of chip is the 1.3 GHz? Loopdomain is a PIII 650 MHz, so you should be almost 2x its production, unless you have a Celeron or Duron. Are you running any flags?

...what's funny is the fact that my laptop freezes frequently under normal use(word processor) but runs stable and never locks up while folding... damn compaq

oh and aielman they mean flags like -forcesse and -forceasm and -system and stuff that you add to the command line

aielman- If you edit your shortcut that starts up F@H to include the -forceasm flag, you will see an increase in points production. Here is what your shortcut should look like exactly including the quotes:

"F:\Downloads\folding\FAH3.25-Console-beta.exe" -forceasm

You probably have this shortcut in your startup folder.

The benefit of running F@H as a service is that 1. You can run the client while users are logged off, and 2. You can conceal the program so you do not have it running in the taskbar ect. It's best to use the console verions of the client rather than the GUI version to run it as a service. Also make sure you have the -service flag, so F@H runs while users are logged off.

All tinkers should have a point value assigned to them. If you are using EMIII, then it may not have the most up to date point value assignments yet. If you want to know the point values, deadlines, ect., they are all listed at:

so to run it so i dont have it in the taskbar and with the forceasm tag i should have "F:\Downloads\folding\FAH3.25-Console-beta.exe -service -forceasm" in the Target space on the Properties > Shortcuts window?

^ There are several ways to not have it run in the taskbar. The simplist is to install TrayIt!

This a great little program that allows you to minimize any program to the system tray by right clicking on the "X". You could also use EMIII, or just use the GUI form of the program. There is more info on the website in the additional downloads section.

If anyone is having problems with T-Bred or later AMD chips crashing while SSE is turned on, there is a new beta core, that has so far proven to be much more stable. It also looks like it gives about a 1-3% speed boost as well. Here is the info:

why is my folding@home client using doing a project? I don't have the g@H core, that I know of, but EM3 is showing a purple icon, which says it is G@H. what gives? I'm running the console, so that should really prevent g@H.

nevermind, somehow the settings got changed to "no pref" in the command line. how, I dunno...

Looks like there will be a change in the way the Extremeoverclocking stats are compiled and displayed. These are just 3rd party stats. Stanford's will remain the same.

I can only hope that there is stat hicup over the next couple of days so I can preserve what little left there is of a lead on you guys.

quick question if anyone can help.
i dont know much about computers and im basically doing this to help out and be a part of the team, so dont call me out.
since i have to go home for spring break, can the folding@home program run offline and then connect back online (with dialup) to get a new project to work on? i've only ever run it here on campus so i dont really know.

it is more dificult but definitely doable. The best way to do it is to monitor it and sign on right before it is about to finish, let it connect upload then download a new WU.

another option would be to run multiple instances of F@H, that way they take longer to finish, so you do not have to connect as often. then you dial up and send results for multiple WU's.

there are some other options but either way you can do it. one thing to note if it doesn't send immediately (because you are not connected to the internet) it waits a while to try and resend so it might be easier to stop and restart F@H once you are online with a completed WU (note you could lose your results though...).

Don't worry urge311, we are just glad to have you on the team. A few years ago, I tried setting up an auto-dial system, such that when F@H needed an internet connection, it would dial-up on it's own. I never got it to work.

When I go home, I run F@H on my mom's machine with dial-up, but when I leave, I turn it off. My mom doesn't understand the concept of folders in Windows Explorer, so the chances of me getting her to connect to upload/download units is slim.

You can set it up to do only Genome@Home WU's which have no deadline and can be qued. This way if they are online long enough, it will up/dl the info, but they will notice slow internet service while this is happening. This is probably your best bet. What is the speed of the machine? It all depends how much hassle it is worth to you. I would at least run it for a week while you are home.

^ I have not seen or heard of it. It looks interesting, but I thought that when you specified G@H WU's that it cached a bunch on it's own. Maybe I am wrong. I never choose the G@H only option, since the pts/hour is much less with them.

i think my parents computer is a 1.8gigahertz where mine is only 1.6
i figured since i have to be home for most of spring break that i could maybe set it up there, but the dial up only connects at about 42.2 or so, so not even 56k

That's plenty fast. At least run it while you are home. If you install the GUI version, maybe your parents will be able to handle it. Tell them it helps do disease research on their computer. I think there is an option that asks if you want to connect to the internet. When they are online, they could just say yes. Try it out while you are home and see how it works.
