He wouldn't be a free agent until 3 more full years after 2006. He would be arbitration eligible but that is not guaranteed $$$ and would be far less the first 2 years then the contract will give him - $6M...)

Quote :
"Mets now have a worse record than the Yankees by a game. Just goes to show that it is a long season."

And what being able to add $20M in payroll on the drop of a hat can do you for you. Can't blame them I guess but it's the system. No other team in baseball can afford to do that. Congratulations though. An extra $114M bought you one extra win so far.. Plus the fact that the Mets are experimenting with pitchers and resting a lot of players because there is no race to speak of..

reyes grand slam, 7 run inning vs. phils

the mets are ridiculous

i didn't believe in them for most of the season

but congrats you fuckers, you're gonna win it all if your pitching stays healthy

Hey NyM410 - what are you hearing about a possible trade for Shawn Green? I heard on the radio that the D-Backs are trying to get him to waive his no trade clause so they can deal him to the Mets?

i say this not as a mets-bashing braves fan, but as a pure, unbiased, objective observer

the mets will not reach the NLCS

Why? Because of 3 games in August with a ridiculous lead.

Are you saying the Reds/Cards will beat them in the NLDS? I don't think so. Mets are going to the World Series...

The Mets pitching is still very suspect, but that lineup is so deep that I don't really see any other NL team being able to stop it. They'll need Pedro at his best to win it all, but anything short of a WS appearance should be considered a disappointment IMO.

I think they'll go all the way to the WS, but don't think they have a chance of beating whatever AL team they'd face.

Glavine might not be out for the year they're saying. We'll find out tomorrow.

Even without him they should win the NL. The lineup is head and shoulders ahead anything else in the NL and the bullpen is the best in baseball.. They can pick up the starters if need be..

Awesome game today from El Duque (even stole third base!)

i have always been optimistic about the mets

even when i knew they didnt have a chance at making the playoffs in april

but if glavine happens to be done...

that NLDS is gonna look like pedro, maine, el duque and that makes me nervous

I hope Glavine is okay because he's one of my favorite athletes and I'd like to see him win another ring to further solidify his place in Cooperstown. The Mets have had some shitty luck recently with Sanchez going down in a taxi accident and now this freak crap with Glavine. Hopefully Tom will be alright though...

Oh and Minaya is the best GM in the game. Got Green for next to nothing and Oliver Perez has been NASTY in AAA recently

Seriously man.. even the hardcore Braves fans stopped trolling in June..

and if I remember, the dude has posted about the Mets since '04.. if you didn't know we only had like 70 wins that year...

the Marlins were definitely giving that game away, they had about 3 chances to get Reyes out with 2 down in the 11th...

but a W is a W either way

The Mets should still waltz to the World Series on the backs of the lineup, but their pitching leaves much to be desired. Better hope Glavine/El Duque find their postseason magic. Trachsel for World Series MVP!!!

I don't know, if the stros make it... I'd hate to face oswalt, pettite, and clemens. I'm pulling for the stros this year even though they upset the braves in the 18th last year

The Mets can't beat the Astros in a 5 gamer but they can and will in a 7 gamer. Since there is no way, with the Phils loss last night, that they will face the Astros in the NLDS they are fine.

Of course the Mets have killed the Astros all year long anyway even with their 'great pitching.' Oswalt is intimidated by the Mets and most unusually by Cliff Floyd.

[Edited on September 29, 2006 at 11:20 AM. Reason : though I still think the Cards will win the Central for some reason..]

Pedro Martinez is out for 8 months.

He pitched last game with a strained right calf, a torn left calf, and what turned it to be a partially torn rotator cuff.
