well germany had a solid game, but they gave up two very easy goals, and costa rica didn't challenge them much...

costa rica didn't keep good possession of the ball, and I don't think we can say germany is a great team just from this game.

they did play well though, so we'll see what happens

"Group A, considered one of the tournament's weakest. Germany was seeded only because of its status as the host country, and Costa Rica finished third in CONCACAF qualifying. "

Germany did have some precision shots against CR, but mainly because they used their size to control the tempo. They won't be able to use that size advantage against most teams, and most teams won't be as slow as CR.

yeah.. it's also a bad sign that costa rica only had 3 shots, but two of those were goals...

what's going to happen against a team that will take 15 shots a game?

DRAMA!

Apparently the players from Togo haven't been paid. The coach and his assistant have both checked out of their hotel and left the team. Each player wants a bit more than $200,000 for the tournament, and they say that they will not play (first game is Tuesday) until their demands are met.

If anyone is already tired of Dave O'Brien, the game is also on Univision, one channel below ABC on Raleigh cable.

In addition to not having to listen to shit about Beckham's hair every five seconds, the picture is better and the feed is about 2-3 seconds ahead of ABC.

I'll stick with Hi-Def.. Dave isn't too bad. He did the local Mets games last year and also does.... I wanna say Wimbledon? (although not this year..)

[Edited on June 10, 2006 at 9:22 AM. Reason : he dumbs down the game though but in America that's understandable..]

I understand why he's doing it...but it's annoying.

Plus, I just got treated to, "No necestio, Becks, the ball is for Paraguay." SPANGLISH!

england is looking very unimpressive right now. they're playing very conservative/cautiously. they're not connecting on their passes. they just seem out of it now - too relaxed or something.

ah, they're pressing some now.

paraguay should've scored there.

I'm sick of the latin players that take so many dives, and refs that cater to them.

Sweden-T&T about to start on ABC HD..

I'm not ALL that interested in this game but it'll pass time before the Argentina-Ivory Coast game which should be fun...

argentina vs. ivory coast should be lots of action. alot of play on the ball (no homo) and speed. i hope it's exciting and flashy as it should be.

Did I miss something (I watched the pregame in Spanish) or is there a reason why they keep referring to Shaka Hislop as "Jack"?
