That happened to me, only it was an expired inspection. When my court date came up, I went in with proof that my inspection was current, and it was dropped. But I still had to pay court costs. This is likely what will happen. Regardless of the case getting dropped or not, you'll still pay court costs.

Yeah, the messed up part was that I had a new set of headlight bulbs in my passenger seat. I told said "dickhead" officer that, and he didnt seem to care.

I've used Mr Crouch 3 times, and have 3 dismissals. I know many people with similar stories. The only way someone is better than him is if they are cheaper. And I thought he was quite affordable.

So on my way back from Hampton, VA about a month ago, I got my first ticket ever in Southhampton County doing 15 over. I didn't want to drive back up there for court so I just mailed them the check and plead guilty to that one. Looking back I realize that was a bad idea. However, a week later, I got another one in Wake county for 15 over. The officer told me that if I just went to court and asked to have it reduced, they would reduce it and it wouldn't hurt my license or insurance. I'm wondering if he said that cause he thought it was my first because the VA one hadn't shown up on my record yet. Should I go to court and ask to have this one reduced? If I do, are they gonna be like "Uh you had one a week before that too... hell no". Should I get a lawyer involved? What say you TWW?

They'll probably ask about your previous driving history and they may or may not reduce it.

Either way, you're looking at something like 3 points for the VA ticket plus 1 for the NC ticket if they reduce it; 3 if they don't. 4-6 insurance points is going to be quite costly when your insurance company finds out. I'd wager that you're better off with a lawyer on this one; especially since you skipped the lawyer on the first one.

So what are we talking about? Insurance doubling maybe? I currently pay like $65/month for auto insurance so it going up would definitely suck but wouldn't hurt too bad I guess. Also, how much is a lawyer going to cost? I assume it would offset the potential insurance costs?

Also, would there be an option of taking traffic school or something to help me get out of it?

what was the 15 over if it was more than 75 you may be facing a month- 2 month suspension for pleading guilty to an out of state ticket

and your insurance is already going to increase because you plead guilty to that ticket. if you get the wake county one reduced your insurance is also going to increase because you were convicted of another moving violation in less than 3 years

I got a ticket in Forsyth County on Thanksgiving morning for 83 in a 65. My only other ticket was 7 years ago. It was in Atlantic Beach for 70 in a 55 and I just called the DA's office down there and they reduced it to 9mph over on the phone and I just mailed them a check and didn't have to show up for court or hire a lawyer.

Any chance that will work on this one? I figure it's worth a try, but if that doesn't work any recommendations? I'm not familiar with Forsyth County, so I don't know anyone there or anything. I definately don't want an insurance rate increase...

i think the rule of thumb is the less they are paid the less time they are going to spend on it. if the fee they are quoting you includes court costs which is $130, then whats left is all they are making on it. so if they arent making much they are going to go the first day and get what they can. where as an attorney who is making more from it will allow you to make payments, and continue it a few times to get the right judge and allow you to make payments.

Traffic is one area of the law where legal services are fungible. Almost all competent attorneys will deliver the same result. Motions to continue are much more useful in other areas of the law, primarily criminal law, particularly in DWI cases. You're right about the quote including court costs. I always quote my price with the court costs included.

Traffic court isnt about justice or protecting safety, that's why it's a completely separate process from real court.

How far in advance do you need to get a lawyer for a speeding ticket? Got one during a "operation slow down" speed trap Thanksgiving (they pulled three of us at the same time...) and my date is in January... So I just talked to one lawyer about my Wake Co. ticket and they said that for $365 they would either get my ticket reduced (if the VA one hasn't shown up) or use a prayer for judgment. I really don't want to go to court two days before Christmas but at the same time, I'm kinda wondering if I even need a lawyer for either of those options. I can do both of those myself right?

If your driving record is good, you should be able to get 15 over reduced to 9 over no problem. Tell the dude you have a good record and you want to make a plea bargain. If not, tell that bitch you want a continuance.

I contacted The Dummit Group in Forsyth County in reference to the speeding ticket I mentioned a few posts up (83 in a 65). I currently have 0 points on my license, and haven't even been pulled in several years. After telling them that, the lady said they could do it for $200 and I would receive no license or insurance points and not have to appear in court. After I agreed to let them handle it and gave them my credit card information, about 10 minutes later she called me back and said that she forgot to mention since the ticket was over 81mph I would be required to take a driving course, and that any community college offers it. Has anybody ever heard of this? I know you can take the courses to get points taken off your license, but I have never heard of it being required, and I also don't think every community college offers it like she said...
