It's a good thing we got those 3 end game chances to see exactly how bad herb is. If we had only gotten 1, the apologists would have been up here saying how it was a low percentage anyway, and there would still be a doubt in their minds about how bad herb is.

We had 3 opportunities to see how they were going to play us and react, and we didnt do anything differently. No one on the team has sense enough to tell herb to shut the fuck up and play basketball. I like how atsur has taken over the role of julius hodge on an end game play.

He starts out at the top of the key and penetrates, except he cant dribble, jump, pass, rebound, or make layup. Why is atsur running a hodge play?

I really thought he got fouled in what had been called all game, but other than that ... 1 point in the last OT... 1

I really cannot believe that. Everytime we got the ball we weren't moving around and waited for the shot clock to run down. I also really thought evtimov was gonna drain the 3 to take the lead. We only allowed 7 points in 10 minutes of play, but it's still really hard we scored only 1 point. This is a horrible loss for this wolfpack club going into tournament time. Also, what happened to brackman? He just stopped getting minutes, it would have been nice to see him open up the court for simmons down low with his shooting ability. I'm stunned.

I'm not saying that no blame should go to Herb, some definitely should. However, we're running the same offense throughout the whole game. The problem is when it comes down to needing to score or make the big shot, we haven't had anybody step up and take it. During the course of the game, someone will cut hard or screen off and put up the three...when it comes down to needing it at the end, it seemed like they were all hoping to be able to pass it off to someone else so that it didn't end up in their hands. It was a good game, with a pathetic ending.

^^thats called poor coaching. our guys have never displayed an instinct for going to the basket, drawing fouls, or getting an easy put back.

we have it drilled into our heads that we should only be looking for a 3 or back door. Since its pretty easy to defend the backdoor when its slow players going against fast ones, BC didn't have to do too much. We have no prowess inside the 3 point arc.

You never see crisp interior passing, rebounding, or solid post play. Those are high percentage plays, but our players dont think like that. They live in bizzaro day-tight compartments.

umm we dont have anyone that can step up. i thought we used to bu we dont. we just run the same play as we always do. pass it in, give it to simmons up to and he just passes it off and we pass it around and then with 3 seconds left atsur or bethel will just wait for simmons to come screen up top and take the worst shot possible with no time left. its half herb and half execution/non-motivated players.

also, why didnt tony take that 15 ft. jumpshot at the end of the first overtime i think it was? he faked the three and got his guy in the air and instead of stepping to the side or moving in a little bit for a jumpshot, he decides to drive the lane and kick it out cause we HAVE to win on a game winning 3 pointer.

herb controls their rebounding very easily actually.

let me tell you how...

one, he benches them if they don't try to rebound

two, he gets them fired up to actually win a game. to actually jump for the ball. it's the coach's job to inspire his players.

three, practice rebounding in what they call "practice." there's really some groundbreaking principles to rebounding that have totally evaded our team's collective mindset. one of them is what's often referred to as "boxing out." it would be nice if our coach actually coached his players on how to do this crazy "boxing out" stuff.

and hey, i'm not even a million dollar making basketball coach!!! so i bet others coul think of plenty more.

Herb controls our rebounding by having Cedric Simmons beyond the three point line setting useless screens, and having Ilian Evtimov (who can't jump bc of the ACL's in at the "4" position). We gave one of the ACC's best big men a scholarship to set screens. Herb is genious.

Rebounding .... ugh. It's never going to happen while Herb is the coach. If it hasn't happened in the 10 years he's been here, it's not going to start happening while he's here.

All of the timeouts Herb called at the end of the game: we didn't get a point off of ANY of the timeouts. We should have just run our "normal" offense .... no, wait, we DID run our normal offense after the timeouts. Why didn't Herb draw up a play on any of the timeouts?

BC's big man had 3 fouls before the first TV timeout. Ced should have gotten in the low post every possession, and should have touched the ball in the low post every possession. He could have had 40 points if we had fed him the ball. Instead, how many times did he get in the low post? Maybe 5? Things turned out alright every time he went there?

I meant what I said in my other thread (http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=390268). We can't win more than 1 ACC tournament game and 2 NCAA tournament games. Those are fundamental coaching errors that we simply can't overcome.
