^^agreed, actually I always agree with you. ncWolfsu for sports talk mod!
Oh you never mentioned Wright, then who was left unsigned? What does that mean?
Dude, what does that mean, "what he did to the kids was wrong"? Everytime a coach leaves doesn't the same thing happen? Wait I know! Yes.

learn more about college athletics and then re-ask me that question
and think about the team when u are wondering what i meant. not recruits.
actually no, most coaches tell their kids ahead of time or when other schools come calling, its courtesy and tells him that he has respect for their interest as well.
im not tryin to call u out or make Herb look like the Devil, im just saying what I know and how the players reacted to the whole thing, Im stickin up for them since they cant really speak on the whole event without some negative feedback...dont take it personal at all.

I just don't think they were left in the dark like you believe. Where is this information coming from, I also don't understand what the point of saying "players left unsigned" was, if it was not refering to recruits. Oh, of course I knew that coaches customarily tell their team prior to leaving. 4/10/2006 1:36:02 AM |

hhaa agreed, so if JC comes we are automatically number one in the country right, i mean JC and Cedric, that is #1 quality to me. All kidding aside, please don't base next year's coach's ability on whether he beats UNC or not in 06-07, because they are straight nasty. 4/10/2006 1:48:39 AM |

I am sure Herv did as much as he could to respect those kids as fars as I have ever heard about his relationship to his players." |
I liked Herb; gonna root for him down the road.
BUT! I think he kinda screwed us over in the Texas game and I always will. He sure did respect those kids alot - certain seniors who shouldnt have been playin and were getting murdered by Texas - and fucked the younger players who took it to 'em along with the fans.
He knew he was gone after the adamant herb haters layed into him after we lost to Wake AGAIN. He took care of the ones he cared most about and bounced out like a bandit. Good for him. Good for the ppl that didnt like him.
Bottomline: Whats done is done, but I also know Cal would be an upgrade from Herb and if you asked me if we could trade Herb for Cal before this past season I would have traded in a second. I wouldnt have bet that Herb would leave in the way he did though. I hope we get Calipari or I will probably regret losing the mousey bastard. The wait is killing me!4/10/2006 2:13:43 AM |

i highly doubt that herb knew he was leaving at that point. and even if he did, he would have coached the texas game the same way he always would have. he's a professional.
it irks me that the haters can't even show an ounce of respect for the man even after he's gone. 4/10/2006 8:00:38 AM |

Goodness. Like it really matters whether or not Herb told them before or after he took the job at ASU. He still took the job. He was still going to leave. This isn't like a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. "OMG Herb...how could you do this?!?!? And it's not even that you cheated on me....it's that I had to HEAR IT FROM SHAWANDA FIRST!!!"
ASU probably asked Herb for an answer on Saturday and he said yes. He says to himself that he'll wake up in the morning and tell the players. But with the internet the way it is today, that shit was out fast. Oh well, now the players already know....big fucking whoop.
I like how JTBucky will say in some threads how some of the players are happy Herb's gone or they can't stand him....now he's saying Herb left the players in shambles??? STFU please. 4/10/2006 8:40:22 AM |

Quote : | "Johnson has indicated multiple times that he will rework Calipari's contract, which runs through the 2009-2010 season and features a $2.5 million annuity that can be collected if Calipari fulfills what would be his 10th season at Memphis. Johnson canceled a scheduled trip to Georgia on Sunday to remain in Memphis and focus on rallying donors to upgrade the package. But it's now been two weeks since Calipari first publicly expressed his desire to remain at the UofM so long as the school is "fair" and "committed to being a Top 10 program," meaning it's safe to suggest negotiations have not gone as smoothly as either side had hoped." |

It's pretty different this time. It's known that there is an offer on the table and Fowler and crew hand delivered it. The rest of the times were pure speculation. But yeah, your right.
I think Calipari's statement about "I was just going to listen" and then "I was over-whelmed", allows him to accept or decline and save face either way. But I hope that it's the latter remark he planted means 'no way in hell Memphis can pay this--you understand guys, gotta go to the ACC.'
Still I won't get my hopes up.

Quote : | "A prominent University of Memphis booster says basketball coach John Calipari has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at North Carolina State but may still decide to stay at Memphis. Rick Spell, who is close to both Calipari and athletic director R. C. Johnson, said Calipari is being offered $2 million a year to compete regularly against the likes of Duke and North Carolina. Like Memphis six years ago, North Carolina State is struggling. “They need a silver bullet,” said Spell. On the other hand, Spell says, “expectations will be through the roof,” and the results that Memphis and Calipari have achieved in the last six years — one appearance in the Elite Eight — would not satisfy NC State. Plus, Spell said, Calipari genuinely likes Memphis and has a great team coming back that will contend for the national championship. “Before yesterday I would have said he was staying,” said Spell. “Now I’m not sure.” " |

^^ I agree. That's why I think statements like "only one elite-8 will not be enough for the Pack" are highly speculative to make.
On the other hand, he has mainly recruited from laurinburg prep school. Not totally knocking their people I think Wake had one of their players recently, but I am not sure if they are the kind of people State can accept.
[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 11:51 AM. Reason : 5 players on Memphis from Laurinburg]

what are his recruits looking like this year? anybody good? also, i've heard a lot of people say that if a big name coach comes here then their recruits are likely to follow. i seriously doubt this unless it was somebody like coach k. i mean wright was coming to state primarily b/c of the coaching staff, so why isn't he trying to go to ASU? i would love his recruits to come but i think this is just wishful thinking. 4/10/2006 11:47:39 AM |

^^well calipari runs a much more high flying and fun offense than Herb did. He gets superior athletes to come play his style of offense, Herb got great athletes but never really let them show it off due to his style.
if you take the same players that we've had over the past 4-5 years (Bennerman, Hodge, Scooter, etc.) and put them in Calipari's offense, they would've been able to show off all of their abilities instead of just passing the ball and shooting threes.
Calipari will be able to take Cedric, Fells, Gavin Grant, Brandon Costner, etc. (all extremely athletic players) and bring them to a level that NBA players are on, much better than Herb EVER could.
if we land Calipari I guarantee that Chris Wright wont go anywhere
