My roommate went to China back in February to visit a friend of ours who lives over there (he's an Anglo, but the company he works for has manufacturing facilities over there).

They went to India for about 4 days to attend another friend's wedding.

My roommate was amazed at the innocence of the Indian girls. He said it makes you think you're coming back to a country full of fuckin' whores when you come back to the States.

that shit is true. I wish I had this kind of advice when my first serious relationship went straight to hell. I was so all to hell that I didn't date for over a year and half. Went thru crazy drama with her during that year, and it basically took me moving to another college for me to sack up and get out there. And now I'm glad I did, I"ve had an awesome time since then, lots and lots of dating and stuff; and have just gotten into a relationship again where I'm not givin her any baggage from the past. the problem is: many people get great advice when they're breaking up, but they don't listen. they have to go through all the first major breakup crap that everyone else has gone through.

luckily for me, my first big breakup coincided with good things coming into my life as well, so it didn't really put me out for too long. i also gained some friends from the experience. and after a while, i could still be friends (albeit very casual and distant friends) with my ex.

i think we just have to learn from experience. "he had to learn, just like me and that's the hardest way" and all that.

I never got back with her. I started dating someone new and a few months later she came to me and said she regretted leaving, but I stood fast (probably thanks to this thread). We talked off and on as friends for years. She actually died last year. Left behind a husband and two kids. I went to the funeral.

Reading back through this thread brings back all sorts of memories. Good, bad, and embarrassing. I actually didn't sleep last night after stumbling upon it. I don't have any supreme words of wisdom for any younger kids reading this, but maybe they can learn something from my very public display of heartbreak. Rally's advice has a lot of truth to it, but it doesn't take into account the shades of grey. When you're 22 and think you're a lot smarter than you really are, you need harsh words to really make you consider your choices.

Sometime after this thread initially died, I met a girl who I ended up dating for a few years. She was as opposite to the original girl as you could get. About 6 months after the break, old girl came by the house one night and wanted to talk. I blew her off and stuck with new girl.

For those curious: unsurprisingly, she did have a guy she was interested in when she left. All is fair in love and war, I guess.

Like I said before, we talked online once or twice a year to check in and chat. The pain and regret faded and gave way to wisdom and curiosity. We talked about how different we had become, new mistakes in new relationships, and tried to give each other a little advice.

Last year I was home one night and started to get a flood of condolences from old high school friends. After reaching out to her family, I found out she died of e coli spreading to her spine. She delayed going to the hospital and, sadly, it cost her everything. I went to the funeral, sat in the back, and quietly broke down when the old prom pictures started showing up. I donated to her husband's gofundme and I went to her grave once since then to properly say goodbye.

I never had another relationship last that long. I still haven't started a family. I feel a little behind the curve sometimes but none of that is her fault. We were just kids.

While none of this is super unique or groundbreaking, it was a big chapter in the story of my life.
