I never said he was "impressive." All I said was he was their only attack in the 2nd half, which is true. Giggs was too busy working in the midfield and Saha/Rooney were nowhere to be found. The majority of their chances were because of Ronaldo's work on that right side.

And I actually am very anti-Ronaldo, so this opinion is in no way biased.

three more points for united.

3-0 winners over everton.

arsenal should have trained harder instead of bitching about henry not getting any awards. they lost 2-1 at fulham.

im anti-ronaldo as well but i was impressed because he was the only one pushing the attack
but it really seemed like boys vs. men
chelsea has big strong older players vs. united little young inexperienced players
united really needs to sign some real stars or they're gonna become an average team

^ and if by "some players," you mean Shevchenko, you are correct. United's lineup is good, but it wouldn't hurt to get somebody to bring off the bench for some kind of spark. When Fletcher's your first sub in the Chelsea game, there's something wrong with that.

^^ When your bench has Oshea, Fletcher, Silvestre and Wes brown, your not fine by any means. They need a couple of good signings, i would like to see hargreaves come in and there's a good chance he will in january.

man utd are just depleted a bit by injuries right now, theyve got all the players they need to win, i mean they are on top right now with quite a few players hurt or not at 100%

on top right now true, but the season isn't 15 games long

I don't know why admitting they could use a good signing in the transfer period is such a bad thing. Nobody's saying they suck or won't win the league... it would just be a big help if they did.

also the word is Hargreaves in in Jan, with Wes Brown and John O'shea going the other way to Bayern (although I hate to see John go, he's been great), but Hargreaves wont be anywhere near match fit coming off a broken leg

Silvestre to Atletico with a bunch of money for Fernando Torres

hopefully we'll see Rossi come home (because Roeder is a putz) in Jan, too

also the Adu deal is off, apparently the kid still is garbage

haha adu...im pretty sure hes never going to live up to the hype...im hopin its about time for Rossi to step up and be a first teamer...im not sure why they dont get him playing time at their own club instead of puting him out on loan and then having to go out and get a 35 yr old on loan themselves

well the thought was Rossi was going to get some first team burn at Newcastle, then they went out and signed Martins, and Rossi got stuck on the bench

apparently SAF was infuriated, and rightfully so. he could have kept him at OT for the first half of the season or sent him elsewhere to get some first team time

Where are you getting the info about Brown and O'shea? I'm not too sure SAF is going to let go of John, he's a big fan of his. Hargreaves looks set to join in Jan. Also, where's the info about the Silvestre plus cash money for Torres from? Looked around the usual websites, haven't seen anything about those deals.
I don't see Torres being a good buy for the amount its going to cost. Saha and Rooney are a good pair, and Torres won't be bought to sit the bench. Interesting bit of info though.

I might sound biased here, but it wasn't a flop, the announcers even said it wasn't a flop, and any ref in the world would've called a PK in that situation. Refs dont have instant replay, or xray vision, or anything else. They have a first impression to go on. Anyone in the world would've had that same impression. GK comes off his line - not the last man back, mind you - and makes a dangerous play to try and stop the attacking player. Automatic PK.

not the last man back... whatever dude, that would've been a goal had he not come off his line. Definitely the right move by Schwarzer to come out. Ref should've realized who was being taken out on the play and he would've thought to himself, "Hmm, this is Ronaldo. He dives at least 3-4 times a game. I notice how he holds out his trailing leg for a while to try and draw contact and then stumbles, and this is exactly what he did here."

I'm not saying he didn't do the practical thing by coming off his line, any keeper would have to be insane not to when they've seen Ronaldo bearing down. What I'm saying is, he made a poor play for the ball, a dangerous play for the ball, and in all honesty, because he wasn't the last man back, he fucked up by coming off his line to make a dangerous play on the ball when he had at least 2 defenders in front of him.

Any ref in the world is going to call that.

Had it been 1 on 1? No ref would've called it. Had he plucked the ball off of his toe instead of sliding in a half second too late? No ref would've called it.

As it stood, it was a reckless challenge, whether he made contact or not, it was obvious what his intent was, and is exacerbated by the fact that there were at least 2 defenders in front of him that could've made the same play and probably gotten away with it.

I never said they wouldn't. I'm saying it's a bad call and that referees need to stop calling as many goalie-related pks as they do.

Keepers need to stop coming off their lines and trust their defenses, then.

Either that, or make the play they intend to make 100% of the time. It's that simple.

So are you saying it is a bad call and that people need to get over it, because it happens all the time?

pretty much, yeah.

I agree it's a bad call. I'm sure it'll happen again. Probably next week, or hell, even tomorrow. I don't fault the ref for making it.

okay I agree with that, all I'm saying is there needs to be a focused effort by officials to cut down on errors like this because I do NOT want some kind of video replay in soccer. The more shit like this that happens, the more people talk about it.

But without video replay, you're not going to get a different decision. I dont advocate video replay, either, but sometimes you have to take the good with the bad, and the overarching truth is that the ref makes the right call most of the time given the information he has.

He had to call it, any ref wouldve done the same. Ronaldo dived for the second foul, reminded me of Pires against the Addicks a couple of seasons ago, trailing leg and all that.
Champions league encounters look good. Barca will come out strong, but i am going to say Bremen holding on for a 1-1 draw. Getting together to watch it with some friends, anyone else wanna join us? Utd need a thumping win at OT, Benefica don't stand a chance. Oh well, im excited already.
