While WKNC was in the middle of a set that included Coheed & Cambria, WXYC was playing motherfucking BORIS.

aha

only problem is within 5 songs xyc is gonna play something that sounds like an operating washing machine falling down stairs made of chalkboards and mice for 8 minutes

WXYC DJ bumper:

"That was 'High Ambitions' by Screeching Weasel, and before that we heard nine minutes of actual screeching weasels in their natural habitat."

haha

The Boris song was immediately followed by a tribal beat with some guy muttering really quietly.

that's my only beef with wxyc

i listen to all sorts of stuff...from rock to gamelan to jazz to golden age country to soul to cuban salsa to delta blues to classical chinese...i can deal with broad and overreaching genres

and i can even handle ambient noise and experimental...

...but it gets to the point where the sheer noise and disharmony is so frequently inserted between song sets that it wrecks havoc on the pacing of my listening...

i've tried to work it into my palate for 15 years now and i don't ever think it's gonna happen

i can attest that i was at Bang on a Can All-Stars with Kyaw Kyaw Naing, Glenn Kotche and Lee Ranaldo at UNC this year...mostly to watch the season ticket holders' ears bleed and/or get up and walk out

i'm lovin' the hate this guy is laying down for bedroom bands and pro tools

"no one has told these people that they're bad...and someone telling you you're bad doesn't mean you're bad, but it does make you think about why that person doesn't like you"

this ranks right up there with frank black's "hang on to your ego" in my favorite beach boys covers

(old soul playing "vegetables")

haha that's awesome.

i can listen to some ambient/noisy stuff on occasion (have to be in the right mood), but i don't really want to hear it played on the radio.

is SDRE's "in circles" still in rotation at KNC? i swear i've heard that song being played like 500 times since high school

Whoever was DJing this morning in the, say, 9:00 to 10:30 range, good damn set of songs. It doesn't even show up as having a DJ on wknc.org--is that schedule not updated for summer?

One time, I hired a monkey to take notes for me in class.
I would just sit back with my mind completely blank while the monkey
scribbled on little pieces of paper.
At the end of the week, the teacher said, "Class, I want you to write a paper using your notes."
So I wrote a paper that said, "Hello! My name is Bingo! I like to climb on things! Can I have a banana? Eek, eek!" I got an F.

I love Summer Babe as much as anyone, but I heard it like two hours ago.

This is what happens when you neglect Carrot Rope

If WKNC wants to play a Pavement song twice in one afternoon, it should be "Texas Never Whispers."
