with quickenings... do you start with all 3 chars? then do you do level 1 quickenings first...

and then jus sub in one person after the first chain?

i alway start with level two

and the way you level up, it shouldn't take more than one chain

My first time I got him at levels 25-30 with just quickenings. If the first one doesn't finish him off do the other before his paling goes up.

i am still kind of figuring out quickenings - but how can you suck at them? it appears that it's just 1 button then r2 over and over again with some luck

dunno.. i just figured i sucked at em cuz one guy on an earlier page said he could get 10-15 and the most i've ever got was 9...

i read that if you do nothing but level 1s then you can get a ton and it does a lot of dmg because dmg is based on number of quickenings performed

I left my guide at my boyfriend's house but there's a chart in it to the effect of:

level 1 ~.5x damage
level 2 ~1x damage
level 3 ~2x damage

The multiplier is an approximation of your character's normal attack power-- there are actual numbers and I regrettably don't remember them.

The concurrences (ark blast &c) also have an attack rating and the frequency of rank 1, 2, and 3 quickenings will determine which one you see. If you do three level 1 quickenings Inferno will happen; if you do 4 of each rank you'll get black hole. Inferno's physical damage rating is something like 70; black hole's is 255.

The way to cause the most damage is to score multiple level 3 quickenings and try to pull off ark blast or stronger. (Ark blast is induced when you do 2 of each rank.) Ark Blast is the easiest to pull off and does a respectable amount of damage, but you're not going to get it with a long string of level 1s. When I'm doing a quickening I start with a level 3, take what I can get, wish for mist charges, and press R1 frenetically when I'm out of MP. Mist charges occur 1/8 of the time so some of it is up to statistics and the rest is twitching.

You can also use restorative items on your reserve members. You can have two active people use ethers on a reserve member (press one of the R buttons to choose different groups of targets-- main party, enemies, reserves) to restore one mist charge. Start all over again. :3

In general, follow this strategy. Never roll (r2) when you can do a mist charge or quickening. When given the option, time permitting, always choose the mist charge. When given the option, time permitting, do two mist charges in one turn before doing a quickening.

If 1 character has a full mana bar and two characters have no mana, start out with a level 1 quickening. At this point, you get a free roll (the initial roll) without ever pressing r2. Hopefully, one of your other characters caught a mist charge, but if they didn't, it's no big deal. Your main character still has 2 mana bars, so there is a 75% chance that he can select a quickening or mist charge without rolling. Ideally, it is a level 1 quickening. If no one catches a mist charge on the next free roll, there is still a 50% chance that he can catch a quickening or mist charge without rolling.

The general idea is to not waste time by rolling. If you have to roll 3 times in one turn, you are fucked. Get the mist charges when they present themselves on the free roll so more of your characters have a full mana bar.

Two mist charges in one turn? Like when you select mist charge, I get two names that light up white.

or a lvl2 quickening thru mist charges?

Explain plz?

Pretend you've got Balthier, Ashe, and Fran with 1, 0 and 3 mist charges, respectively.

1 options: Fires of War, Mist Charge, Shatterheart
(choose mist charge)

2 options: Mist Charge, Maelstrom's Bolt, Shatterheart
(choose mist charge)

You've just given Balthier and Ashe full MP and in round 3 everyone's got 3 charges to use. Choosing Shatterheart in the first round would deplete Fran's MP and afterwards you -might- have gotten fires of war again, and you'd have a 1/8 chance of getting more mist charges at that point. When everyone's full on mist you have a 100% chance of performing another quickening. You started the chain with 4 charges but after two mist charges in succession increased it to 9.

I'm completely lost...

When I choose a mist charge, I press that key really fast and just automatically choose that character again to do a quickening. Should I not do this? Does the mist charge give them full MP and I should not choose their quickening.

Could this sum it up? Choose a mist charge if at all possible, then choose that persons quickening? If no mist charge is available, take a quickening. If no quickenings available, roll with R2. Rinse Repeat

Yes, absolutely correct.

It's easy for us to tell you to choose two mist charges in a row-- theoretically that IS the best course of action. When you're given four seconds to do this you can't always stick with theory. When I get a mist charge I immediately smash the button again (ie: Balthier is triangle, I see his mist charge and smash triangle again because I know that there's a 100% chance one of his attacks will be triggered.) If you're still getting chains that are only 7-9 long, work on your twitch first. (We're also assuming the characters you use have obtained all three of their mist charges. If you have someone who hasn't gotten any yet and you have an esper, acquriing it will activate some of their attacks. If you let Basch with no mist charges acquire Belias on the license board, he'll automatically get Fulminating Darkness (level 1).)

The mist charge completely refills the character's MP bars. This only works during the mist chain-- if your last move is a mist charge and it ends, your character will not get their MP back.

PS: Next time you start playing, go to a save crystal near a bunch of monsters and practice. I had an easier time just doing it knowing I needed to smash buttons than having internet people try and explain it to me. :X

Force works fine most of the time for single targets. When you're dealing with status effects (field or marlboro induced) or swarms though it becomes another story and just requires a different strategy.

yeah, like sonia said, it takes quick thinking to do two mist charges in a row in one turn. typically, you'll do a mist charge and press the quickening by instinct. that's okay because you can still rack up high chains without ever doubling up. however, there have been times, if i would have played my cards straight, that I could have gotten up in the low 20s. as of now, my highest is 19.

good job on keeping them equal leveled.. when did he get those status effects? I've got 5 from a trap once in Barheim passage.

Vaan, Bashe and Ashe are level 58 or 59 and the rest are all low 30s.. I just got all the chops and decided to take a detour and do all the marks... blew thru them all...

Hint: Antlion is 239038589402548 times easier with Aeroga

I've got Vaan using the Zod Spear, and the other two using Fomalhauts or Deathbringers (whichever I fancy at the moment)

I'm trying to find a good place to level.. think I'm gonna do the hidden place in Nebreus Deadlands

no, i haven't beat the game yet.. i just love fighting.. i run around every map killing everything lots...

i got a lot of levels from Barheim Passage when I was killing Bloodwing and getting Deathbringers; and this was after I stole 3 Embroidered Tippets from the Couerls in the Tchita Uplands. I've always loved to just grind it out and gain lots of EXP.

Like I said, I am in the middle of Archades right now. I'm using the guide and the Power Walkthrough from gamefaqs.com. But right now, I'm just wandering around.

I plan on being 99 when I beat it because I'm gonna do all the hunts/marks and have a perfect game before I beat Vayne.

got hit with 'putrid breath' from one of the Vivians (malboro) in Giruvegan...if you're in Archades, you'll be dealing with them in not too long. Nothing a good ol' remedy can't fix, I just think it's hilarious to see someone afflicted with that many status effects and still be alive. Just after I took that picture I fought one that hit all three of my party members with it and they all looked like that, as well as 2 more that I had switched out, so 5 of my party members had completely fucked statuses like Vaan's in that picture. I just didn't feel like taking another one

however I'm fighting Tyrant now and he's proving to be quite the asshole. I might have to go around leveling up in Giruvegan for a little while, but with some embroidered tippet action it should be relatively quick

lol.. anyone on the wolfweb with more than 10,000 posts cannot say "get a life man"

but seriously.. anyone that plays RPG's and puts any amount of time into the game (enough to beat it) should "get a life" if you don't consider video games a good thing.

thats just a stupid comment on your behalf Ernie, but the only times I've ever really seen your name was when you were trolling, so I can't take you seriously

In other news, how the hell does a sandstorm come about in Westersand? I need a certain monster to spawn and the last 6 times I've been by the Westersand, there hasn't been one.

If you've beaten Earth Tyrant and need to trigger a sandstorm you can do it by walking between the Westersand and Northern Estersand (past the river, the part that connects to the Highwaste) a few times. If not, just walk into that area and back out. The entite will appear in a different area if you had to trigger the sandstorm from the Estersand.

I'm working my way through Giruvegan and got to the Tyrant boss (all characters were at 42)...he was a bit much, so I figured I'd leave and go do some hunts, sidequests, leveling, etc. and come back. Just figured I'd give it a shot for shits and giggles. I auto-leveled 3 of them to 54 and I'm working on the other three now to catch up

I'm just a perfectionist and I whenever I see a way to get a lot of levels, i abuse it...

wandering around in the feywood, i found a spot of the henne mines.. just one little tunnel, that 2 abysteels spawn in and i was killing them over and over and over and over again from level 30.. gaining 3k per bat for each char.. now I go back with Embroidered tippet and get 12k per char each time i kill the 2... but now i'm in the nabreus deadlands doing the skeles with curaja.. omg

I'd recommend goin there to level paerbol... i'm not as far as you and i'm already over 60 and its flyin up

i'm just a leveling fool

Autoleveling can be good if you need to change the level your characters are at to avoid stuff like level 2 sleep or level prime death.

The deadlands are great for doing this, too. I've gotten chains of 400 before getting bored and saving. (I was kind of sad that you don't get a prize for chaining 300+.)

What I should've mentioned earlier (when it would've been useful) is that the gnoma entite will appear in the screen west of Earth Tyrant's if you haven't defeated it yet. If you enter the Westersand through Earth Tyrant's lair the entite appears further west in the Westersand.

If you're wanting to get Leshach halcyons the time before killing fafnir is the best to do it. Two appear in Paramina during snowstorms which are triggered by Fafnir's presence-- from Bur Omisace go west and south to find them.

did a 450 chain in nabreus deadlands... good to steal from dead bones too to get the golden headband... i said i was gonna be there until i got 99 sturdy bones, but that didnt happen... they sell for 2k each and i got 80 of em then had to go to work

had my secondary 3 (balth, fran, penelo) in and they leveled so fast it was sickening.. every two or three monsters someone leveled. nice when you have the whole liscense board completed and you can use fomalhaut at level 22

just have 2 chars cast the level 2 ice spell the other heal.
its an area affect so you keep the respawning zombies at bay and addrammalech is weak to it so you will rape him easily.
