^it's beautiful ain't it. I can hear and feel the collective choking of sections 7 & 8 from the smoke right now.

Now this is the law of the jungle-
as old and as true as the sky.
And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper,
But the Wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk,
the Law runneth forth and back.
For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf,
and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

-Rudyard Kipling,
The Second Jungle Book

ACC Championship game on the move?

http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=694194
http://tinyurl.com/2crdy3

Move it to Charlotte, then I can go when State is playing in it (which hopefully is very soon). Charlotte is growing like crazy, and there are a ton of things to do, so don't bring up stuff like "there's nothing to do in Charlotte" and other bs like the weather. It's a football game, not a damn tennis match.

Tampa wouldn't be too bad though.

^the charlotte nightlife is getting pretty sick in uptown charlotte. The lake nightlife is awesome as hell though, right on par w/ downtown raleigh. the only reason i would say uptown isn't is b/c it's so damned expensive.

the lake is awesome though around cornelius where i grew up. there are several decently priced bars right on the lake where a lot of the party crowds like to chill. if you can go during the day it's even better w/ all the boat traffic coming in and out. the 4th was awesome as hell on the lake.

didn't see this anywhere else, but herbstreet has us as the team to watch on their "under the radar" clip on espn.com

basically said, that we lost 6 games by a touchdown or less and all we were lacking was discipline last year and that tom O'brien will fix that problem and are bringing back a lot of talent.

^^^^There is more to do in Charlotte than Jacksonville. Jacksonville isn't much warmer, and Charlotte is much more centrally located geographically. Atlanta could be decent, but they already host the SEC Championship so that is off the table. I'm not a big fan of Tampa (not much better than Jacksonville, and further for everyone), and the Citrus Bowl in Orlando is a hell hole. DC could be OK with a good facility at the Redskin's Stadium and decent geography, but you are moving into cooler climates. Also, DC really doesn't care much about college sports (well, at least the media doesn't). Miami wouldn't be terrible, but the champ already goes to the Orange Bowl most years. Really most of the decent stadiums in the ACC area are the home of one of the schools, or in Florida, or otherwise occupied (Atlanta). Really the only locations that could host it on the East Coast would be: Miami, Tampa, Orlando-debatable b/c the Citrus Bowl is pathetic, Jacksonville, Charlotte, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, NY/NJ, Boston. In light of this, I'd rank the attractiveness of ACC Championship locations as:

1) Charlotte
2) Jacksonville
3) Washington, DC (well, Landover)
4) Miami
5) Tampa
6) Baltimore
7) Orlando
8) Philadelphia
9) NY/NJ
10) Boston

Jacksonville is the status quo, so may actually gets bumped behind DC. Anything behind Charlotte is a distant second. None of the other locations offer the total package of community support, geography, facilities, and accomodations that Charlotte would offer.

RJ Armstrong #96 TE

Kind of odd... seems like those numbers would be flip flopped.

Evans intends to be Pack's No. 1 QB
He's preparing 'like I'm the guy'

Chip Alexander, Staff Writer
RALEIGH - N.C. State's Daniel Evans was well-tanned and appeared well-rested Wednesday, energetic and eager to crank up a new football season.

Evans ended the 2006 season as the Wolfpack's starting quarterback and is intent on beginning the 2007 season as the starter.

That the Pack changed head coaches, firing Chuck Amato after last season's 3-9 meltdown and then hiring Tom O'Brien, hasn't changed his mind-set.

O'Brien hasn't committed to a starter, saying Evans would continue to compete with sophomore Harrison Beck and redshirt freshman Justin Burke when camp begins next week. But O'Brien also notes "there's no substitute for experience," and Evans, a redshirt junior, is the one with the experience.

"Whether I feel like I'm the guy or not, I know I'm supposed to be preparing like I'm the guy, and that's the way I'm approaching it," Evans said. "I guess the other two guys should do the same thing, but I'm approaching it as if I'm the starter."

Evans, like most college players, has had anything but a leisurely summer. The former Broughton High star attended both summer-school sessions, taking four courses, and will be nine hours from earning his business management degree.

A typical day has Evans up at 5:15 a.m., with a protein shake "breakfast." He's at the Murphy Football Center at 6 o'clock for stretching, followed by running and agility drills, then more than a hour of weight-room work.

He's in class from 9:50 a.m. to 1 p.m., then heads back to the Murphy Center. After a few hours of "free time" often spent on classwork, he has 7-on-7 pass drills, finally finishing about 7:30.

"By 10 or 10:30, I'm ready for bed," said Evans, who lives with his brother Andrew, a wide receiver, in an off-campus apartment.

Evans' offseason emphasis was on better footwork, especially in deeper pass drops, and a bigger body. He said he "gained back" the nine pounds he lost last fall and is at 189 pounds.

A year ago, Evans wasn't sure when or if he'd get to play with Marcus Stone seemingly entrenched as the starter.

But after State's 1-2 start, that changed. Amato turned to Evans, who helped lead the Pack past Boston College and Florida State and soon had Stone working at a new position, tight end.

Evans, in nine starts, passed for 1,843 yards but closed the season with six touchdown passes and 11 interceptions. In a seven-game losing streak, he had one touchdown and nine interceptions, and his late-game fumble against North Carolina sealed a dispiriting 23-9 loss.

Rather than damaging his psyche, the trial by fire made him a better player, Evans insisted.

"I'm not sure if I got down on myself after a few losses and it spiraled or not," he said. "But I think having been through that, I'll better be able to handle adversity this season, knowing how to react and maybe how not to react. Not that I was lashing out against anybody, but just in being able to stay in the right frame of mind."

There's also the matter of being better able to handle the demands of being the starter -- the film work, the practices, executing the game plan on game day.

"As the backup, you're trying to prepare as best you can but it's not the same," he said. "As the starter, you know it's riding on you -- probably the success of the team is riding on how you perform. So it adds a little more pressure and urgency in your preparation. As the season progressed, ... I felt I got in more of a routine and more comfortable."

It showed in spring drills, when Evans completed 41 of 63 passes, with eight touchdowns, in three scrimmages. Beck, a transfer from Nebraska, may have the strongest arm, and Burke, Evans said, may be the smartest of the QBs. But Evans performed the best of the three in the Red-White spring game.

O'Brien said he is looking for consistency at QB. He wants a sound decision-maker, someone to "manage" the offense.

"Someone to play within the framework of the offense and not only try to hit the home-run ball," the coach said.

Evans believes he can be that someone for the Wolfpack. "

Not really football related, but State related none the less. I think we should have a billboard on I-40 going toward Raleigh, sometime past the Chapel Hill/Durham exits that shows some students doing research/studying and says something like "NC State...We're Miles Ahead" . Kind of an indirect slap in the face to UNC and Duke.

Now back to football, how do you all think Stone will do at TE this year? He could catch the ball fairly well, from the few times I saw him get the ball thrown to him. Maybe he could end up like that one TE for the Jacksonville Jaguars that was originally a QB in college, but was drafted to be a TE b/c of his size and agility. Everyone remembers the karate kick looking move Stone did to get more yards.

Suggestion for the band; please learn and play "Tequila" in the stands. Imagine the student section dancing in the stands to that and yelling tequila during the song. It would be a good crowd participation song, like "Apache" and "Hey Baby" are already for us.

Anyone got any other song suggestions for the band?

yes, i suggest they play the fight song as the players come out, rather than whatever lame song was chosen for this year.

Meet the Pack Day is scheduled for Saturday August 18 at Carter-Finley Stadium. Be there if you are around Raleigh.

Found this on Tennessee's website. I remember hearing that they had pushed the game back, but I didn't remember hearing what years. It seems like I would have seen a N&O or Charlotte Observer blurb about it in the past, in terms of specifying the years.

"Another change for 2008 is to the opener, which now has UAB instead of North Carolina State visiting Knoxville on Aug. 30.

North Carolina State's trip to Neyland Stadium has been rescheduled for 2013. Tennessee already is slated to visit Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh for the 2012 season."

I can't believe that we would get them first. Maybe they asked to push the game back, and we said alright as long as it is the year after we host them. Wasn't 2012 or 2011 already the year that we would host the return trip had they kept their end of the deal and had us as the 2008 season opener?
