i'll post more information about paul johnson & georgia tech after our staff meeting tuesday. my boss will be back from the navy game and should have more info by then.

Quote :
"If Radakovich wants to keep Tenuta, then he should look toward an offensive-style coach. Fisher fits the mold. So does Navy's Paul Johnson, who led Georgia Southern to NCAA Division I-AA titles in 1999 and 2000 and just steered the Midshipmen to their fifth straight bowl invitation.

Johnson, who also has been mentioned as Bill Callahan's possible successor at Nebraska, shrugged off the speculation Tuesday. He's trying to keep his team focused on Saturday's big game against Army.

"It's been the same situation every year and we're still here," Johnson said. "The kids know that if something were really going on, I would tell them."

Still, one can't help but wonder if Johnson is longing for a chance to coach at a school that doesn't have all the limitations of a military academy. If he can average eight wins a year at Navy, which he's done over the past five years, what would he do with a little more talent at his disposal?

But Johnson insisted that he's not looking for another job.

"Some of the stuff out there is so ludicrous ... it's laughable," he said. "To me, what's important right now is to beat Army. All my focus is on this game.""

i bet there will be more public information about johnson and georgia tech after the army navy game.

Word is Tammy Bowden's headed to Arkansas. A win for the Pack either way.

How would that be a win for us?

Bowden sucks. Keeping him is definitely to our advantage.

We've lost to Clemson the last few years because we suck, not because they're good.

Clemson recruits substantially better than we do, has a loud stadium with an intense fan base, and a really good coach could take them to being a top 10 team.

when they beat us four years straight, two of which are blowouts at home, i don't see how it is to our advantage to have them underachieve overall. if anything it'd make the acc a little more respectable in football if they'd do well.

They have since the Mario Williams class. After they hired the two new coordinators, thier recruiting picked up and ours fell off.

Tammy has really hit his stride in recruiting in the past 3 or so years.

When asked what he needed to do after the Clemson game, Tom O'Brien said "We need to recruit more guys like their guys," or something to that effect.

Dumb move by Tammy IMO.

Once the fans turn on you, you pretty much have to walk on water to regain that respect (See: Herb Sendek).

One more non-ACC Championship season and Tammy is gone. He may still get paid, but he's gone. He should have left before his name becomes tarnished with a firing or a 'being run out of town' and started over (As Herb did, which was the smart thing to do).

Figured it was just TB trying to get a better deal. I can honestly say that that would have been one of the stupidest moves (unless he just completely tanks) ever by a coach.

There are going to be a lot of unhappy Razorback fans if they end up with a no name coach.

It may be Ron English now, unless they go a completely different direction from the people they have interviewed. The BCA will probably go nuts if Arkansas starts over.

the fact of the matter is that Tommy has taken us to the brink of the ACC Championship. YEs, we've had some meltdown in the past, but Tommy is not responsible for Aaron Kelly (an All-ACC receiver) dropping a wide open game winning TD pass that wouldve put us in the Championship.

contrary to popular belief, there are a good number of clemson fans who see the progress we've made, and believe that with just a bit more patience, we'll reach that higher level.

It's hard for any fanbase to be completely dissatisfied with annual bowl appearances, and continously beating their rival year in and out. That said, Clemson fans (including me) do want to reach that next step.

I've always liked Tommy Bowden, and the recruiting classes he's brought in lately have been phenomenal. I think he's done a great job dealing with the loss of Rich Rodriquez and switching our offensive schemes after the Woody Dantzler era.

My only beef with Tommy is that he didnt take out Will Proctor last year and start Cullen Harper sooner...but thats in the past and it only makes me even more excited to know that we've got a solid QB with tons more experience for next year.

We'll get there...

"Grobe is new Razorback coach
Wednesday, Dec 5, 2007

By Harry King
Arkansas News Bureau
FAYETTEVILLE - Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe is going to be the next football coach at the University of Arkansas and is likely to be introduced on Thursday.

The board of the Razorback Foundation met briefly via conference call Wednesday evening and approved a salary supplement for Grobe, who just completed his seventh season at Wake Forest.

There is a strong likelihood that Grobe will be paid more than former coach Houston Nutt, but details of the salary package were not immediately available.

A coach's salary from state funds is limited so the Foundation must agree to guarantee any other money that is promised a coach.

For instance, former Razorback coach Houston Nutt received a state salary of $330,000, but his total package was about $1.5 million. Among other things, Nutt was guaranteed $600,000 for radio-TV and $250,000 for speaking engagements.

The foundation would not be asked to approve a specific compensation package unless Grobe had agreed to the deal. The process was evident on Monday night, when the board was supposed to meet to approve money for Clemson coach Tommy Bowden. The meeting was postponed twice and then canceled when Bowden agreed to a contract extension at Clemson.

At one point, it appeared the foundation would bump Bowden's salary so he could personally take care of a buyout at Clemson. The same process could be in play with Grobe, who reportedly has a buyout of $2 million.,

It is believed that Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long zeroed in on Bowden and Grobe as his top two choices in the days after Nutt resigned. People very interested in the search were told that Long would hire the best head coach available.

Grobe has a 45-39 record at Wake Forest, including an 11-3 Orange Bowl team last year and 8-4 team this year headed for the Meineke Bowl. Following last year, he signed an extension through 2016 for what was believed to be about $1.1 million per year.

the rumor is that Grobe is taking his entire staff to Arkansas as a condition of the hire and that Roofie may coach the bowl game

Wake hiring Ted Roof?!? The man's record is 6-45! What coach has ever gotten a job after being 6-45!

I don't think Arkansas would be a good fit for Grobe. That fanbase will be wanting to fire him in 4 years.

I agree that unless he shows success quickly, then the hawgs will want to can him. I am sure he knows that too, but that money has got to look good. Plus, Grobe will probably realize a lot of potential at Arkansas where he won't be limited academically as he was at WFU.
