Quote : | "Most ideas of a moral nature can be traced back to a motivation from Scripture. " |
Christians today would like to think that "moral ideas" are motivated from Christian Scripture, but that's just not true. There are strong evolutionary and societal pressures for the development of morals, and in fact Scripture was influence first by these previous developments. It is in a community's or society's best survival interest to behave in moralistic ways. If a community lives together and they don't kill each other ("thou shalt not kill", anyone?), then they all live longer! Wow! The notion that people and communities would just be killing, stealing, raping savages without some Gospel-on-high to tell them how to act is just insulting. How do you explain that most animals, or at least mammels, exhibit similar community behavior as us, where they have family units, they generally don't kill each other, they protect others in their herd/pride/pack/group, etc. Is it because they've been reading the Bible too?
On a separate note, I think this is an attitude that the US would be better off taking in politics. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7112256.stm
Quote : | "During the interview, Mr Blair said faith was a crucial component for him in having the character to take on the prime minister's job and had been "hugely important" to his premiership.
But while it was commonplace in the US and elsewhere for politicians to talk about their religious convictions, he added: "you talk about it in our system and, frankly, people do think you're a nutter".
British voters imagined that leaders who were informed by religion would "commune with the man upstairs and then come back and say 'Right, I've been told the answer and that's it'". " |

another reason to not vote for HuckaFuck
Quote : | "War in Iraq
Iraq is a battle in our generational, ideological war on terror, and Huckabee believes setting a timetable for withdrawal is a mistake and that withdrawal would have serious strategic consequences for us, as well as horrific humanitarian consequences for the Iraqis. He supports a regional summit so that Iraq's neighbors become militarily and financially committed to stabilizing Iraq." |
Seriously who are these guys fooling. Iraq was not involved in 9/11 and claiming that the radical islamic militant groups like Al Qaeda were working with Saddam is like saying Eric Rudolph with the Army of God was working with Tony Blair (UK prime minister) I really shouldn't be surprised since this is the guy that believes the Earth and civilization magically appeared 6000 years ago.
Unfortunately people in this country are so stupid with a lack of knowledge in world politics so profound the majority probably really do believe Saddam was involved. Although I am sure Hussein was "pleased" to hear about the attacks.

Conspiracy theory time:
We get to the convention and McCain is in first but lacks a 50% majority. Romney + Huckabee is > 50%.
Huckabee goes to Romney and lays it out:
McCain and Romney don't like each other and aren't going to be on a ticket together. Huckabee can go to McCain and give him his delegates in exchange for the VP spot.
Unless...
Romney give his delegates to Huckabee in exchange for a Huckabee/Romney ticket.
Impossible?

Can't see Romney willingly saying he'll be Huckabee's VP. 2/5/2008 11:45:40 PM |

It's funny how some conservatives think the exact opposite is true.
PS I agree with the quoted statement.2/6/2008 1:01:17 AM |

I would struggle to vote for McCain if he took Huckabee as his running mate. I would just lose a lot of respect for the guy.
My guess would be Charlie Crist. 2/6/2008 1:15:54 AM |
