Yeah, I'm ready to start talking Bball now... UCLA lost to UA today at home, outscored 90-10 in the last two games. Anxious to see the #1 recruiting class plus those returning in a couple months.

only if he retires... his new contract makes it really really expensive to buy him out.

I wish he would retire Lloyd Carr style, just announce it and leave plenty of time to find a replacement

my list of possible replacements:
Jim Leavitt
Mike Leach
Gary Pinkel
Jim Grobe
dude from Boise State (Petersen?)

I might be wrong, but I don't think any coach was fired in 2007 during the season. He will not be fired, he's pulling in too many recruits among dozens of other reasons.

his recruiting is fine, has always been good, really good actually, especially for a state with minimal HS talent. I would put him up there with Carroll, Zook, and Rodney Garner as far as recruiting. The problem is hes a dumb stubborn son of a bitch. I dont think he will get fired because of the way his contract is structured. Only hope is for him to quit.

Auburn - 20
Tennessee - 9

His recruiting is decent, I definitely would not put him in the top tier of recruiters with guys like Carroll, Meyer, Saban, Tressel, and Stoops

The Last 7 years he has only had 2 top 10 recruiting classes

Carroll in that time has had 6 top 3 recruiting classes

look at the talent difference between Tenn and Cal... not even close. TN has really really really shitty HS football, most of our best players come from Cal, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. From about 95-2002 TN had the most players drafted in the NFL (tied with Florida State)

he is nowhere close to being up there with Peter Clay Carroll in recruiting like you say he is.

Please dont put Fulmer and Carroll in the same sentence.

Carroll went 6-6 his first year at USC, since then his worst record is 11-2!

what?

record has nothing to do with it... thats my whole point actually, he can recruit like a motherfucker, he just hasnt been able to do anything with it the last few years. For not having any in-state talent he is as good as a recruiter as anyone, its just the rest of the SEC has caught up.

Carroll and USC in general recruits and gets players no one else would take a chance at. (See OJ Mayo)

Without doing any search, in the last two years I know that Sanchez was arrested for rape, Maluagua for assault, there is a recruit being sentenced for armed robbery TODAY, kicker got drunk and killed himself, some dude had a baggie of 200 X pills, someone was arrested this weekend for armed robbery. That program will go down in flames in the next 5 years.

And all of that without a mention of the Reggie Bush mess.

he coaches at tennessee...

prestige, stadium, facilities... i'd like to see how any coach can recruit there (meaning any coach should do as good a job as fulmer)... you guys need to stop comparing apples to oranges...

As referenced earlier in this thread somewhere, his 2009 QB commit is a top 10 recruit.

From California.

Who has never left the state of California.

Not to mention pretty boy Jimmy Clausen decommitting from SC and going to ND because of "the Coach's lack of control" at SC. Of course, Clausen is nothing special now (like his brothers LOL) but they have another pretty boy QB for 2009 that'll bolt if Bush/SC is sanctioned.

^^ wrong... he has all that going for him but he is also competing against the best schools. You are right as far as almost always having a top 25 class, any coach could do that at Tennessee, I am talking about all the top 5, top 10 classes he had from the mid 90s until a few years ago

The reason the SEC has caught up is because FULMER cant hang with the SABANS, MEYERS, SPURRIERS, MILES', RICHTS and TUBERVILLES of the world

ok... fucking Fulmer HAS to go now... this is the last straw...

Quote :
"As recently as the first weekend in September, Upland, California quarterback Josh Nunes was all smiles and firmly committed to the Vols.

However, as it is with lots of elements in recruiting, things change.

Wednesday night, Nunes' parents emailed us at Volquest.com indicating that there had been a change in their son's college decision.

"I have changed my commitment at Tennessee to a soft verbal. My reason is based on the distance and difficulty getting there from my home. On my first trip, distance and flying posed a problem when we could not get home in the case of a family emergency. My recent official visit made me realize what I would put my family, grandparents, relatives and friends through in traveling and expense especially knowing my family would try to attend every game. I did inform the Tennessee coaches of my intentions before this past game and losing had nothing to do with this decision. I plan on taking my remaining official visits. I am not closing the doors at UT from my side and I still think highly about the program, especially the players, recruits, and coaches. I feel that I do owe UT the time to adjust their recruiting in case things change for me."

Apparently, the Nunes had express some concerns over travel and distance sometime in and around the UAB game. Nunes trip to Knoxville for the Florida was is first official visit anywhere and at this point no other trips have been scheduled, but it would be a safe bet for Nunes to take an official visit to Stanford where he camped back in the early part of summer.

"

the kid is really smart, so he knew how fucking far it was from Cali to Knoxville... just a polite excuse instead of saying "god damn you suck as a coach"

kid is already a pro at BSing the company line...if he has a good enough college career to go pro, he won't need much coaching from the NFL on how to answer interview questions

^^never ever in my lifetime thought i would hear a tennessee fan say that but things do change i suppose

good news for tenn. is that it will not take long for them to come back up if they make the right hire for their next head coach; prestige, stadium, and facilities that they have can still draw some of the best recruits from around the country, not to mention being in the sec alone helps a lot

i think the best hire they could make for hc (assuming they will be making one at the end of this year) is jim grobe if they can get him. the first requirement i want in a hc is someone that knows how to win. he knows how to do that. plain and simple. he will build a program there that will be eternally consistent.

knowing how to win is right up there with recruiting for what a hc needs imo. leave the x's and o's at least somewhat to the coordinators. they get paid a ton for that. that is why i wanted paul johnson here so bad a couple of years ago (am still very very happy with TOB). dude knows how to win plain and simple. screw what kind of offense it will be or whatever else, i want a proven winner.

^ never thought that the bball program would be top 5-top10 and the football team would be horrible

Grobe would be great... hes always said he wants to stay around the area, not sure if Knoxville is close enough or not.
